It’s eerie. Every year without fail (almost) there’s an uncanny similarity between the winners of the AFL and NRL premierships. I first noticed this…
Let's be honest, we'll never win the FIFA World Cup with the way sport is in Australia at the moment. With a relatively small…
The second ODI between Australia and Pakistan raised some key talking points. Did that really happen? Pakistan won a game! Seriously, it’s been such…
I was there on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium, part of history, part of over 60,000 people at a regular round football match. Amazing!…
So it came to pass; the two sentimental favourite teams won the AFL and NRL grand finals after long periods without success. As my…
Sydney Swans v Western Bulldogs; Melbourne Storm v Cronulla Sharks. Grand finals of eerie similarity. But this convergence, this parallelism, is no surprise. It…
Would love to be proved wrong Dingo!

A great analysis, thanks. It’s hard to find this sort of depth anywhere else.
Why can’t the Swans improve enough to make the 8 in 2020? After the wins over West Coast, Hawthorn & the Suns up to Round 15 the finals were a chance this year, but then the lack of a full-forward and ruckman hit hard. In the next 5 games there were losses by 10, 7, 1 and 2 points (with a 27 point loss at Geelong), so they weren’t way off at all. Assuming (and hoping) that Franklin & Naismith are playing next year, that the young players are improving after another pre-season, why can’t the finals be possible?
A trade for a top midfielder (how Mitchell is missed!) or a key defender would be nice too!
Buddy brilliant: After one 'bad' year, Sydney's rebuild is already complete
How about a boutique 50k stadium along a light rail link to the city??!!
The great injustice of AFL and NRL grand finals
Sport is business these days, I get that. So money & contracts determine these things… Doesn’t make it fair though. Neither does the AFL draw or playing games during Origin when teams are missing their best players. Just the way it is hey?
The great injustice of AFL and NRL grand finals
Thanks Anon, I wasn’t aware of the Leigh Matthews comments.
Playing 2 GFs could work – guaranteed to make money, so you’d think the AFL & NRL would find it irresistible

Loosey, some sub-editing license in the title; but stand by having an opinion
