SR has surely taught us the need to keep things simple. Last thing we need for a world cup is another complex draw structure that makes little to no sense to anyone. Need to ensure the WC draw utilises an easy to grasp structure, that allows people to follow the games without needing a degree is statistics to work out the ramifications.
My proposal would be –
24 teams – pool stage, six pools of four (everyone plays three games) – top two advance.
12 teams – group stage, four pools of three (everyone plays two games) – top two advance.
Eight teams – quarters
Four teams – semi
Two teams – final.

This is reasonably simple and has the added bonus of keeping the quarter final match ups reasonably fluid. Only adds one additional game per team either.

In saying this, I am atrocious at maths, have just made it up now, and may well have this completely wrong.

Three days of magic, then the ultimate buzzkill. How can we fix the biggest problem with the Rugby World Cup?

Haha you’re not a lawyer are you?

Talk about poetic license – ‘He wasn’t even aware he had kicked it as it had shot out of the ruck’.

Haha

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Argentina

The Adelaide 36ers have kick started their season with a captivating performance against the Cairns Taipans winning 88-79 at home.

Adelaide was led by new import, Jerome Randall who stamped himself as one of the most enthralling and energetic players in the competition following his scintillating debut.

Randle hit 24 points in only 23 minutes as he shot four from six three pointers and 53 percent from the field.

It wasn’t just his shooting that would have impressed Adelaide fans, with his ball handling ability and incredible foot speed sure to provide plenty of highlights throughout the season.

Randle also stepped up in the fourth to halt the fast finishing Taipans who had cut a 15 point lead with only nine minutes remaining.

Randle hit seven straight points before dishing a pair of assists to steal back momentum and leave Cairns chasing their tails.

Adelaide 36ers coach, Joey Wright would also have been extremely happy with the performances of Adam Gibson (15 points) and Anthony Petrie (12 points) who both provided spark at either end of the floor.

Cairns looked no show of stealing the game mid-way through the third quarter until going on a 13-2 run to equal the scores at the end of the third.

Tragardh was the standout performer for the Taipans in his 300th game scoring 16 points and looking very dangerous whenever he got the ball in the paint.

Starks tried to rally the side with 15 points however it was too little too late for Cairns as he was unable to spark a late rally.

Cairns would have been hoping for more from Weigh and Worthington who shot a combined 8- 25 from the floor.

Adelaide will now have to bottle their new found offensive spark and take it across to Sydney for tomorrow night’s clash with the Kings.

FULL TIME

Well, they didn’t.

Petrie launches a heil Mary to finish and it misses but he doesn’t care as the 36ers romp home against the fancied Taipans.

What a performance from the 36ers, they are a completely different side with Randle on the side.

He adds a lot to this team and makes them a completely different proposition heading forward.

What a pick up for the 36ers.

Great game – full report to follow shortly.

There’s 1.2 seconds on the clock and Adelaide have called a timeout – there’s a bit of a shock.

TIMEOUT

Big four minutes here.

Randle has all the answers so far for Adelaide but he’s going to need help to close this game.

Can Gibson step up again or perhaps Petrie or Johnson down low.

Gliddon starting to get going again while big Cam in his 300th has been there best.

Here we gooooo.

THREE QUARTERTIME

And another intriguing half here from Adelaide.

Well it left as quickly as it came for the 36ers as their offensive tsunami completely dried up.

Gliddon and Tragardh sparked things for Cairns who looked a lot more fluent late in the quarter going on a 13-2 run into the break.

The run coincided with Randle going to the bench as a result of foul trouble.

He will need to step up here in the fourth if the 36ers are going to right the ship – you get the feeling he’s going to go down swinging!

Q3 0′

Tied up following Tragardgh driving for another deuce.

Cairns have scored the last 13 as Ere is fouled driving to the hoop.

On replay, Ere just slipped – still he gets two shots.

Makes both
