Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

Eyooo

Brumbies breathe sigh of relief after holding on against physical Drua pack as super sub saves the day

Yeah i think it was much better after the subs

Brumbies breathe sigh of relief after holding on against physical Drua pack as super sub saves the day

Hi cs!

And what was he trying to do up the blindside just before he was subbed?!?!? Chipped and chased, just about at the touch line, with nobody in 15 metres of him? Madness, madness! (- Bridge on the River Kwai) Blotted his good start there

Brumbies breathe sigh of relief after holding on against physical Drua pack as super sub saves the day

Well that was intense.. somehow after the opening tries i saw it coming, just had the feeling that the Drua were freezing, then they warmed up and warmed to the task, and we got sloppy.
Sapsford isn’t any good, I am sorry but he’s like Lawson Creighton at the Reds, a sub who you want to shield from making errors.. his tackling is not up to standard, his passing is slow and inaccurate, he lacks the in game pace of a winger.. definitely not a starter. How we found space for him with Ikitau and Tua both in is a mystery to me.
(As a side note, when Toole gets back I hope they find more ways to get him touches, he seemed to only have like 2 touches a piece in the final 2 or 3 games before getting the tweak)
Also, I don’t like how we seem to be doing the Rebels thing of keeping starters on the bench to be super subs.. as a smart tactic that’s fun, every now and then, but the upshot is we look like a team in an injury crisis when we’re not!
Finally, jeez, I don’t know what the Hurricanes were smoking but we Really need to figure out how to deal with losing the physical battle.. plugging the walking hole that is Sapsford might help.
On the plus side, some really great attacking play at the start of the match, and we always looked ominous in possession. The try the Drua scored after half time was a keystone cops effort from the Brumbies, but after that they exercised control more easily and looked like at least staying clear.
Good to see that young blonde kid from Eddies having a golden arm at the lineout

They’re used to conning refs.. just what the refs had figured it out 7 years ago…

Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

Chill out, he’s my hero from childhood, you just have a different understanding of “my guy”.. I’m not saying he’s bad, I’m just saying Kiss is the best based on how he has transformed his team.. Brumbies are my team, and we’re better this season, but against the Chiefs and the blues i rightly developed a bit of skepticism. Especially considering how much better the Reds go against them. I hope their showing from last week carries on tonight. Pretty cold here in canberra today, that aughta play into our hands.

Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

I don’t think Wilson is much maligned.. he’s definitely better under Kiss than he was under Thorn last year

I missed the part of the game when he was playing, definitely going to watch the replay so i can chow down on the former lion tourist struggling 😀

Kiss has really shown up then other Aussie teams’ coaches, even my guy in canberra just doesn’t seem to have the pedigree and effectiveness.. great things happening for the reds and I’m only happy for them

Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

He was limping after that try, might have been cramp or just a rolled ankle, but yeah he didn’t seem to be enjoying it.. maybe he also wanted that hat trick lol

I’m not trying to talk down the Reds, but I was higher on them going in than most, I have said here i think the reds are a better chance for the trophy than my Brumbies this season because their game matches up much better against kiwi teams

Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

Not particularly surprised, the crusaders aren’t great this season and the reds are much improved.. welcoming back McReight all the better… Tim Ryan what a flyer

No White for mine, Ryan is going through some tough moments in his first season as the main guy, but he’s only going to benefit from it

Why Schmidt isn't sweating about Wallabies star's cross-code temptation

To be honest.. i just want this guy to call the shots and do things his Right Way and just be left alone to make Australia a second, implicitly superior, Ireland, in 5ish years time. God I hope he doesn’t do what everyone does and say “oh the Brumbies are our best team but they’re from a small city so f*ck ’em”.. he says Leinster’s front line make up the Irish front line.. I can think of worse front lines than the one the Brumbies started with against the Canes, good mix of young talent and experience.. a bomb squad featuring tupou, talakai and bell might be good

Why Schmidt isn't sweating about Wallabies star's cross-code temptation

Anyone who watched last season and this should know the SR teams are almost all better now (tahs aside), we should be mindful that Jones was a dufus and Rennie was hamstrung by injuries, the Wallabies might get quite a bit better with a decent coach and this new talent steadily ageing

Australia's rugby talent is the 'best we've had since 2003' - it's time to let them flourish, not be shackled by team 'system'

Nice one 😀

Super Rugby shows that the Bledisloe Cup isn't going anywhere - one selection could give the Wallabies hope

Super Rugby shows that the Bledisloe Cup isn't going anywhere - one selection could give the Wallabies hope

Having read the comments (fats appears to be the mastermind we need to solve our forward play) I will try to express my thoughts on the Wallabies recently…
1 … There’s a size race in the southern hemisphere that we’re not joining, might be out of loyalty to our promising club youngsters or something but we should be poaching towering, or bull-like Pacific Islanders like the kiwis or feeding our forwards factory farm cow feed from the age of 5 like the Boks’ if we want to have the horde of man mountains shaking the turf like the kiwi SR teams and, inevitably, their ABs. As it stands, our best forwards might have been top class in 2000, but these days they’re undersized and trapped in distressingly normal bodies. Johnson Holmes might be a technician of rare accomplishment, i don’t know, but he’s also a middle aged taxi driver, and this makes slabs like Numia look better than they are. Kiss has been bulking up the Reds so at least he gets it.
2 … Our tactics haven’t updated. Les Kiss is a good exemplar, a coach from the top of the Irish game who knows what it looks like to level up a nation’s rugby comes to the Reds to replace League Thorn and what happens? They instantly develop a penetrating attack. What’s he doing? How about one of these roar articles taking a deep dive on his systems? The Wallabies could use a Kiss moment, and hopefully Schmit will bring that.. the last system played 2015 (or older) rugby, it seemed, which in this day and age only offers a flukey chance at penetration.. ahem ..
3 … We carry weak links. Last year Jones said something about not selecting all Brumbies because then you’d be taking the Brumbies to the rwc.. a clearly pants logic… then he turns around and picks players who have been right in the crotch of their team’s disappointing seasons, how many freaking Tahs were in that team? When they were our 4th best team in terms of mentality and application last season? And what players missed out to make way for them?
And how about the giteau gits, Skelton as big a con as Jones, Arnold roughly the same age as Anthony Albanese, talk about carrying misfits, Will probably speaks with a bs french accent..
If the next Wallabies team were to be picked today, it should be a mix of the reds and Brumbies, plus a selection of the well coached standout players from the force (rodda, Beale, Stewart, even Mack “mongrel” Horton) and rebels (Gordon, Salakai-Loto, talakai, MAYBE tupou, Daugunu, kemeny until he racks off).. any Waratahs standouts need to prove themselves free of Coleman’s maddening ineffectiveness before being offered a spot on the bench.
4 … Short termism. You want to build a core of future stars, foster them in consistent teams with the right culture like Leinster or Canterbury. We haven’t been able to do that. We’ve got the team in the Brumbies, but we’re up in the mountains here and apparently Sydney is where Australian rugby must be at, and then the players our system fosters are ignored.. to be honest, the recent attempts at centralising and rationalising our high performance will hopefully address these disconnects.
Well I’ll end it there, this comment is looooooong.

Bit of poop tinted goggles in this article, but I appreciate the alternative takes and thoughtful look at the ABs very much

Super Rugby shows that the Bledisloe Cup isn't going anywhere - one selection could give the Wallabies hope

The Reds totally coughed that one up.. and you have to blame the two suspended stars.. they would have had that much more quality and legs if those dipsticks were there.. i seriously think the Reds are a bigger shout this season than the Brumbies because their brand of rugby matches the physicality of the kiwis more consistently

Brumbies knock over Hurricanes in statement win as Wright shines again behind forward pack

Can pretty much say that about every Australian player lol.. it’s amazing.. you see Tua getting lauded for feints and sturdy line breaks, then you see Carter Gordon getting lauded for laser like cutout passes, then you remember that Larkham was all that and more in a body closer to Jordi Barrett and.. i dunno i personally just want gordon to fill out and get a bit better.. (don’t mind about his shaky kicking, really, who said 10s need to be the Wallabies goalkicker?)
