Pity the innings had to finish. That ball looked like it had at least a few more sessions in it 😉

Wonderful Woakes and Bairstow stunner sink Aussies as ball change debate, Stokes catch howler end Ashes in drama

“Of the two captains there are going to be far more questions about Pat Cummins’ method than Stokes”

More maybe, but I personally think the first day declaration comes out on top in a quantity vs quality debate.

UK View: 'The moral victory is real' - Poms revel in Pat's 'failure', downfall of 'dastardly' and 'scared' Aussies

Hate to nitpick, but England didn’t use the actual 2nd new ball.

“I’m here at Redcliffe”. Wayne’s missed the memo. Love it!

Wayne Bennett's cheeky quip about possible signings in first presser as Dolphins coach

The best part was this was the 3rd or 4th absolute try saving tackle in a row.

Brandon Smith somehow sneaks his hand under a tackle to save a Penrith try

I thought Abdo said the rule was you have to be turning 18 in no more than four months time? 😉

The timing is terribly ironic. He’ll turn 18 about four weeks after sustaining a season ending injury.

'Massive blunder': Why the NRL owes injured Joseph Suaalii an apology

I think there were a lot of sideways glances directed at the Storm when changes were introduced to combat the wrestle and pessimistic defensive tactics. More than a bit ironic that they’ve come out on top.

Maybe they weren’t better at bending the rules after all. Maybe they were just better.

V’Landys Ball proves Storm are the only truly professional NRL club

Queensland’s debutants were rather disappointing. You’d be forgiven for thinking Molo, Walsh and Mulitalo weren’t even on the field.

State of Origin 2 player ratings: Queensland Maroons

Hopefully they could find some room on their strapping to note it down.

It’s all Bill Harrigan’s fault

I entirely forgot about referees “setting the tone”. You could almost guarantee a penalty in the first five sets. Then similar indiscretions would go unpunished the rest of the game. Used to frustrate the hell out of me. Especially if it cost my team 2 points. But in hindsight maybe there was something in it. It’s not like we are any better off now.

It’s all Bill Harrigan’s fault

I knew this retort was coming before I even commented. Which is why I thought long and hard about my comeback…

Go the Broncos!!

Paul Crawley has a simple solution to addressing blowout scores in the NRL

Dont joke too hard. You might be onto something. What about your ladder position equals your tackle set? As a broncos fan I could get behind that one.

You’ve repeatedly made my morning coffee a better experience, and this morning is certainly no different. Thanks and good luck Daniel.

Four incredible years of sport: My farewell to The Roar

Great vision and a nice try. But I feel like “no look pass” is quickly becoming the hyperbole of the season. It almost like they expect the players to be making eye contact the whole game.

A) He looked
B) Safe to assume South’s train occasionally
Leading to C) There was always going to be a player there even if he didn’t look.

Cody Walker's magical no-look pass sets up brilliant South Sydney try

I originally thought Kevie was just taking a leaf out of the Wayne book with the media. Him and the team knew what he was planning. The board had faith in that. There’s no advantage to telling the media.

Maybe that was the case at first. But it’s becoming more and more likely that whatever plans he sold the board didn’t come to fruition, and that they’re taking the reins off him.

Stating the bleedingly obvious, but I think it’s about to get ugly(er).

Brisbane's recruitment strategy is all wrong and the proof is on the field

Not sure if you’ve got a specific window there, but the Broncos cut Dane Gagai for disciplinary reasons after scoring 4 tries in 6 games in his debut season.

South’s forwards better bring their A game. Their backs are seriously outgunned this week.

NRL Round 15 teams: Origin stars return en masse

5 weeks for two incidents that went on report in that earlier match. Small fine for this one. We’re all humans. I’m ok with them not getting everything right. But the contrast was embarrassingly wrong.

Braith Anasta slams Broncos forward's controversial send-off

“What is he supposed to do”. I think the most controversial discussion is whether current commentators are able to move along with the game or we need a fresh batch that understand the rules.

Massive controversy as Tigers awarded penalty try

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

He got hit right in the face and shouldn’t have to act to get a penalty.

Former Panther savaged after Academy Award performance wins him a penalty

The game nowadays would really suit a young Alex Glenn. Shame, born just a few years too early and can’t help but feel that he never reached his true potential.

The NRL’s last chance saloon: Part 1

I’m genuinely confused by this. He’s hit a kicker late (admittedly marginally). He leapt of the ground and collected Walker’s chin with his shoulder. This was 100% the most dangerous hit of the night. I was surprised he didn’t get sent. Even before the crackdown I would have expected him to get 10. Am I missing something here?

Utter disbelief from Corey Parker as Victor Radley is sin-binned for the first time

Haha. My immediate thought too. At least in terms of an actual contest.

What I think would be a more telling statistic though is how many games have a short priced favourite. I would like to see the total number of games and percentages when one team is under $1.50

Is the NRL becoming too predictable?

This weekend may not have been the best evidence for that argument. There was a tonne of tries scored by teams down a man in many of the games.

Funny you mention the contest and the top 5. After the weekend they are the only ones with a positive points differential.

I agree with your two points. Number one needs to be in tandem with the crackdown though. Gotta give the coaches number two to incentivise legs tackles. Either that or just show them replays of the first Panthers try.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 10

Definitely. Do you want regional games to cover the majority of the season, or three days?

Starved fans will take any opportunity to see a game. There is a rainbow of jerseys in the crowd at these matches. Risking taking that away for one weekend in a confined geographical area would be a terrible outcome.

The NRL must even up the magic round disadvantage
