I’ve got CCTV of the Broncos boys at the EP Hotel. Not so much hardened athletes but there is some solid spirit(s) there. Darius didn’t go and I think TPJ was getting a haircut at the time.

Ivan Cleary is under a unique pressure to win an NRL comp

What if the Roosters table $2.5m p/a when he becomes available? They need a half and shown they will pay for results. Surely Ivan doesn’t hold Nathan back from that type of coin and the chance to play at an exceedingly consistent club.

Their success last season could be a double edged sword as well. If it starts to go south wiht the talent at hand, 5yrs is a long grace period. I reckon miss (or cameo) the finals for 2yrs with this squad and I bet Ivan starts to look “tired” again.

Did you put your BRL series together with game by game stats mate? WOW – Respect!

McIndoe!! I knew I was forgetting someone. I was trying to limit to just wingers and Rowdy should have got a mention.
Hammer and Coates would be a sight on the flanks.

You know I’m a fan (which is one step above any other NSW team 😛 ) TBH, I put a lot of the GF down to experience and Melbourne. It’s no coincidence that most teams save their worst for the Storm. Arguably only the Raiders and Sharks have the wood on them and they are grinders. Melbourne will let the ‘entertainers’ put on the biggest show and still defend their line. That turns to frustration and Cleary throws the intercept ball. He says he would throw it again but that’s just ego. Cronk doesn’t throw that pass nor will he again.

Mother Theresa herself wouldn’t get a seat.

Kohli wants action on racism claims

Whether they said anything along race lines or not, do you think Siraj thought Day 4, 10mins out from tea, let’s waste 10minutes here and angle this game toward a draw?

Steve was quick no doubt but I’d say Pearl’s best attribute was his balance and strength. Sure there were faster players but he could maintain top pace while swerving and fending so he’d get a steps on the defender and they would stuggle to catch him from there. He was also very good positional player so he would set up his wingers beautifully.

Mate, everything abot the King was deceptive. He looked 30yo at 20yo. Sort of tubby and balding but he was intelligent, arrogant, super competitive and very strong. Do yourself a favour and go and watch the 79 BRL grand final. Watch a 20yo Wally (and Mal in the same game) manipulate the game against some of the roughest rep players of the time. Maybe the fact there was nothing ‘special’ about him that made him so special.

Fastest Qld rep or overall? Qld rep, Boustead and Dallas for pure pace. Tate and Sing both had very good wheels. Who knows where Coates will get?

I only knew of Beckett back then but never forgot that moment for out-n-out speed. I can’t recall any times (off hand) that Pearl was caught from behind. I guess having Sailor and Hancock outside helped that cause as well but in a time of ET, Mullins, Nagas… I would have thought there would one example I could recall (no doubt there is).

For this year? Preason at least – Yes, and it wouldn’t be fair to treat them as trials. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater, these games have tradition and we (society) will learn to live with these virus’ while living a relitively normal existence with these WCC included.

Can we at least try to get the World Club Challenge on this year?

That’s an interesting question. You can’t coach experience but the coach needs to get them into a position where they are comfortable playing big games. If they fall in a heap this year you have to point the finger at the coach as the talent has identified itself. If they can be consistent top 4, be comfortable being chased than that’s the experience he has offered them but cannot coach into them.

I remember sitting on the hill at the old Dairy Farmers back in the last 90’s, Penrith v NQ. Robbie Beckett picks up the ball after a muffed chip-n-chase and through the smallest gap he exploded! I’ve seen a lot of live footy but he made quick blokes look like they were standing still that arvo.

Where do they improve? Turning enthusiasm into control. Their skills won’t diminish but the decision making will get better. A few will have to play above their age at the moment but can you imagine these guys still together at 25-26yo?

Fair call. I wasn’t aware of Eisenhuth, he is a quality pick up. Is that just recent, he’s not on the Panthers player page yet?

Further, Martin developed a good running game off Cleary’s hip… Conversly, on the left, the attacking damage of Kikau and Crichton (plus Staines) is undeniable. Defence can use work though. How long has it been the Panthers could boast an current origin starter from the bench! (Arguably Peachy but he was a utility)

Hi John. One comes to mind, Manly, 07, gets pumped in the GF by Melbourne only to win 40-0 the following year. 100 examples of teams that make a huge dint in the finals one year only to be propping up the table next season.

Ahhh, I so long for the days of the classy inside center setting up the electric #3 down the park. It was definitely a different game back then when true speed could be highlighted. The structures we have no has nearly eliminated the true flyer. Respecting, as you say, they have to have more than just speed to be an NRL player. Maybe Jet is the last of that breed? Not much of anything else but gone in a flash given half a gap.
Still one of my favourite speedster memories was Albert chasing down Matt Seers for the try saver (can’t remember the year). 2 flyers at full clip and he got him right before the line. Magic stuff.

Gotta wonder who bet on Irvine against a horse! 😂

Who do you have starting on the right edge – Martin or (Qld origin hero) Capewell? From memory Capewell started the 2020 season until injury and Martin kept him out?

Be better than to respond to this poor soul above Walter.

Can we at least try to get the World Club Challenge on this year?

Why just the Saints? It’s not viable or realistic given the global circumstances that one team would come to Aust, quarantine for a one-off game. Bring 2-3 teams for a 3-week round robin event in NSW to garner some interest locally and abroad. They have a much higher chance of border approvals for this type of event and if it’s in NSW, V’landys will make it happen.

It might sound silly considering their run last year but I think the Panthers are still 2years from a premiership team. I don’t want to diminish their 2020, they were fantastic to watch but I reckon those who were breakout stars last year will become dominant positional players in a few years and that includes the Forbes Ferrari. This year they were enthusiastic and a lot of pieces fell their way re: other teams’ circumstances and injuries. Nothing within the control of the Panthers, they played what was in front of them and played well. Give it 2yrs, Cleary, Luai, Crichton, Edwards and Leota will be as comfortable at the pointy end as the Smith, Friend, Keary, Munster are today.

Yeah, I think that one is a bastardised version from The Bard. 😛

It’s funny, you sit down at the start of play hoping the Indians make a good account of themselves to fill out my day. By 3pm and 50 missed chances (just Paine’s efforts 😛 ) I’m hanging on every ball, critiquing GOAT and Cummins and how they could be better, as is my right. I would have liked Vihari to get out of the way and let the rest have a real shot at winning but toward the end I had to admire their resilience. Well done India.

Better get my tix for Brisbane. Let GOAT and Cummins know my thoughts. 👍

No champ, “exemplifies” isn’t a big word but I can respect that it may be for your social standing.

Don’t run away though, I want to keep reading how disappointed I am that an innocent guy apologised. 😂

Post another example that completely disproves your point.. 😂 😂

Can you squeeze the term “virtue signalling” out one more time please champ?
Only the morally bankrupt would view that as a derogatory term. Unfortunately this one isn’t so much 😂 as it is 😢
