Well said Rusty!
In any case, this was a brilliant article capturing how much this victory means to millions of South Africans. Spiro is spot on with his assessment of English rugby: pockets of fans but no where near the amount of passion the South African suppoters have. I walked into a packed pub, in a town near Nottingham, for the final (albeit a football town), but there was absolutely limited atmosphere, no one seemed too bothered. Pretty much sums it all up for me.
This victory seemed far sweeter than the 07 victory. Possibly on par with the 95 victory…
Boks glory: A team of 57 million people beats 23 professionals
Maybe, but they managed in 95 so we’ll take the “dominant in world cups tag”

Thank you boys. I love you and thank you for making it a national day ♥️♥️♥️

Read my comment Jakerman. I completely agree with yours.
England to have the edge over box-happy Boks
I didn’t find the springboks were adopting “boring” tactics until the Japan game. I think those tactics almost cost them against Wales, however, is it right to both criticize them and write them off because of it? I don’t think so. I’m very wary of predictions as they are often made on one or two previous performances and ignore a variety of factors. England may well win it, as may the Boks. The Boks may even score a try or two. They’ve scored plenty this world cup. I also don’t remember the All Blacks scoring a try in 95 but remember the Boks having a legitimate try disallowed…

Well that’s sad news, he’s only just got going 😢
Cheslin Kolbe passed fit, named in South African team for World Cup final
Amazing the impact a referee can have on the flow of the game. Going to be interesting to see if both teams change their play specifically!
World Rugby has handed the Springboks a big favour
Well said Ragnar. I couldn’t tell whether this article was a dig at the Boks or Garces specifically?
World Rugby has handed the Springboks a big favour
It was meant to be more of a shocked look, I was convinced it would be Owens but agreed, Garces didn’t put a foot wrong in my eye, played advantage well. Regarding kicking the leather off the ball though… 😛
The Wrap: Do the World Cup semis tell the truth about the final?
Garces to ref the world cup final 😱 😱 😱
The Wrap: Do the World Cup semis tell the truth about the final?
The Boks have played well in the build-up to this world cup and most recent semi final and we shouldn’t see them as massively inferior to their opposition based on one game. Thanks for confirming this in your article Geoff.
The Wrap: Do the World Cup semis tell the truth about the final?
Wow Ragnar. “Unlikely win”. You really don’t have much faith in these Boks. Is it purely based in their performance vs England’s in the semis or are you basing it in the last year and a half, including the pre tournament and pool matches?
Do you not think that England were really fortunate they didn’t play the French and that perhaps they’re facing a much better side than the semi final tactics suggested? If the Boks win, I wouldn’t call it an unlikely win. Even if I’m trying not to be biased, I wouldn’t say England are staunch favourites based on one performance, perhaps evenly matched with their noses slightly in front.
The Wrap: Do the World Cup semis tell the truth about the final?
That’s an amazing story. I don’t remember seeing the standing ovation but that’s incredible by the home crowd. The match in 95 should not have taken place, however, it would have been sad to see a team go through without playing the opposition. I think you could possibly feel more aggrieved by the 2011 final? Nevertheless, Olivier Roumat and Thierry Lacroix both came to play for the sharks (remember that?) and they were two of my favourite players at the time! Later down the line, they got Michalak in. They must have loved French flyhalves.
As a New Zealander, this is why I don't like the World Cup
Hi Ragnar. The French are the most successful team to have never won the world cup!

Thank you KiwiHaydn! By just naming those players you can see the difference in experience. The All Blacks will learn from this and come back next time with more experience.

Hi Peter. Think you replied to the wrong post. I’m a Bok fan!

Remember guys: whether you win, lose or draw, it’s a victory for us all… 😛

The All Blacks were at their awesome best against Ireland. The only thing missing is a plan B when another team manages to prevent them from scoring tries. Even the sublime All Blacks should be able to win “ugly” on the odd occasion when that happens.

Especially the England v All Blacks match-up. I think they’ve only played each other three times in the last 5 years.
As a New Zealander, this is why I don't like the World Cup
I think England have actually been unlucky (as have France). Both teams have had great teams over the years but on many occasions, have failed to win when it matters. Look at the English team in 91 and 95. Look at the French team of 94\95. Both were brilliant teams which were unlucky come world cup time. I’m happy the gap has closed. Lets hope the English get more games against the ABs in the years to come.

Chin up Paulo! I know exactly how you feel. It’s an awful feeling.
Don’t write off the Welsh, they may be the ones to sneak it altogether. I’m sorry mate but I really didn’t see any non-rugby tactics today. It was a total, all-round performance by England.
This doesn’t mean the All Blacks aren’t going to be the ones to beat going forward, just the victims of a team who threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at them on the day…

What a performance! Ford, Itoje, Watson, the list goes on.
Can anyone stop them now?
All Blacks all over: England knock New Zealand out of Rugby World Cup
May as well go for a nice breakfast and watch the highlights later! Clocks go back here so an even earlier kickoff on Sunday! Oh and all the talk about history means nothing. You have to play what’s in front of you. Also, I don’t buy this whole “Boks got the soft side of the draw” nonsense. France and Japan were much better than Ireland and Australia in my opinion and Japan had the entire crowd behind them! I think Australia made England look good and Wales are possibly the more complete side. Two intercept tries can make the scoreline look much more formidable. Sorry… had to get that off my chest!

Rugby World Cup semi-finals expert tips: stress-free and freakin’ out!
Well said James. I was thinking exactly the same thing. There have been multiple, controversial interpretations of the law on all sides. I personally found the rugby fascinating. It’s a game of inches/percentages, very calculated, rather than an expansive, high risk/high reward style. Each to their own…
