They’re on Fox Sports / Kayo in Australia – or you can use a VPN to get the BBC coverage. It’s only his second race and it’s really great to see him on the podium – plus the team seems like a great environment coming off the win last week, so I’m really excited to watch how he goes as well!

Bird flies away with Santiago E-Prix victory after Buemi falls victim to extreme heat

Especially with lots of European countries – I think even the EU itself – starting to enforce “electric only by 2020” rules of similar, you are completely right. Formula E as a marketing exercise and a way to test battery software / search for software innovations, is far far more directed than Formula One.

F1 still has the prestige and the name recognition – and I think the merger between Formula E and Formula One is inevitable (despite what FE CEO Agag has been saying this past month).

Yeah! So is a lot of the field, eg JEV and Lotterer. It’s really growing a good little talent pool imo

It’d be great to see them competitive – hopefully Wehrlein is exciting to watch for the rest of this season!

Melbourne’s contract runs until 2023…. [and] critics tend to neglect how popular the sport is in most parts of the world, especially Europe, which is the target market for this advertising spend.

This is THE key point about the Melbourne race. Sure it would be nice if it turned a profit, but if it doesn’t – it’s all marketing and exposure for the city on the world stage amongst viewers who are generally more willing & able to travel.

Plus what other city would be a serious contender? Melbourne will outbid Adelaide, while Sydney or the Gold Coast could steal it from Melbourne.

The Gold Coast seem preoccupied with Indy.

Baird promised to bring it to Sydney and the odd news article pops up from time-to-time, but where would they have it? Harbour Bridge, Cahill Expressway, pits in Hyde Park?? Way too much disruption. Over the ANZAC Bridge, through Glebe, Forest Lodge, with pits at the Fish Market? Not enough imagination.

Malaysia may have left but Melbourne will be safe for the time being.

We'll miss it, but F1 no longer needs Malaysia

You may be right, but if it leads to more eyeballs on a potential new A-League deal, and then the World Cup, then we can be hopeful that it might help in some way.

SBS's wake-up call to FTA sports broadcasters

It’s a double-edged sword. The partnerships with VICE and The Food Network bring in the money, the money brings in the bigger shows, and the bigger shows help make the network competitive against the commercial giants.

VICE and VICELAND also do a lot in serving international and ethnic minority audiences, and who’s to say that serving alternative lifestyles is a bad thing in terms of helping foster diversity. It’s about finding the balance and it’ll take a bit of time for them to settle in and see what works best for both audiences and for meeting their charter, in my opinion.
