As I understand Con, MV was fully supportive of the measures taken. Were they not?

Regardless, I certainly don’t ever recall them standing up for the fans in any way, shape, or form.

What I want from our football leaders

Good points AF.

However, I think there is a distinct difference between GCU and MV. MV has actively and intentionally turned against its fans, while GCU is only accidentally doing it due to poor management.

If it were as simple as poor management, fine, we can live with that. It becomes a problem however when they turn around and actively attempt to marginalise the fans.

Are the beach boys surrounded by police? Do the police eject people for taking off their shirt? Do they try and confiscate new lyrics to new songs? Do they come and confiscate banners for no real reason?

What I want from our football leaders

P.S – to clarify, I’m not actually an NT supporter. But as far as I’m concerned, if the NT don’t chant, there’s little point going to matches.

GCU? Good on you AF.

Not speaking for Con, but for myself, it’s hard to support a club that seems to be both non-appreciative and actively working to get rid of you.

Of course I’ll continue to attend some games, but if they stifle the atmosphere, then half the reason for attending games is gone.

In re to Holger, I think he has shown amazing foresight so far. I mean, he managed to pick out both McKay and Kruse, and has been 100% correct in their selection. I have every faith in him, as he has thus far proven to be both cunning and pragmatic. Whilst I agree that it would have been nice to see some new blood, apparently this was not the time nor the place.

Similar to Art, I would hazard a guess that Holger chose to be ‘safe’ in this game as it was important for the morale of the team, important to himself, Australia, and our international image.

Socceroos put Durban nightmare right

You and 10,000 other MV fans. Terrible management and appreciation of the active fans. If the NT disband, then I reckon my attendance at matches will be close to non-existent.

What I want from our football leaders

I didn’t see the game (I couldn’t justify spending $60 on foxtel per month just for football anymore), but what a great result.

As I understand Australia was not so good in the first half, but better in the second half?

However, it would have been nice to see a few outcomes from that recent training camp, and see some new blood on the field. Oh well, I guess they weren’t ready.

Socceroos put Durban nightmare right

Interesting question Johny. Where did the fans go? I’m not sure that it is all that moronic to say however that Melbourne Heart did convert a fair chunk of the disenfranchised and disengaged (or whatever reason) Melbourne Victory fans.

I know it’s not exactly a large sample size, but of the 6 Heart fans I know personally, every one of them used to support Victory (at some stage).

Football really gathering pace in Melbourne

Seems that way. But then, as if anyone ever ‘wins’ an internet argument 😉

Demetriou calls the kettle black

In reference to the title of the article, and the general thrust, I’m pretty sure Buddy is looking to the future (e.g. the Mirabella Cup), not the past, and Melbourne definitely picked up between the 2009/10 and 2010/11, which combined with the cup, could be seen as ‘gathering pace’.

Awesome, thanks Art. I looked at the first article and was hoping for a bit more detail.

Very exciting stuff 😀

To be fair MLF, have I ever trolled you in an AFL thread? In fact, have you ever even seen my comment in an AFL thread?

Football really gathering pace in Melbourne

Thanks MLF, but I was talking to Art.

Football really gathering pace in Melbourne

What? Really? Awesome. Why haven’t I heard of this?

Football really gathering pace in Melbourne

Just on the national thing, I know it’s been said before – but I’ll say it again. I’d really like to see an FA Cup flavoured comp here in Australia. Perhaps not exactly the same, but something along those lines would be fantastic.

Well Moonface, a thumbs up. You’ve certainly generated discussion 🙂

Demetriou calls the kettle black

And you think these games have nothing to do with feelers in these locations?

Come on Wookie.

Demetriou calls the kettle black

Ah the pain, I felt it…. it was terrible.

One of the worst things was that no one knew at the time whether it was because the Socceroos were atrocious, or whether Germany were awesome. In the end, perhaps a bit of both (arrrg, the high defensive line… ???), but we were certainly the laughing stock for a while. I think we lost some of the respect we managed to get at the 2006 WC.

Bring on the friendly, I know the Socceroos will do better.

That night in Durban: reflecting on Socceroos' loss to Germany

Good article Buddy.

I look forward to the Mirabella Cup – something like this has been a long time coming.

Wookie – what were they doing playing there then? For fun? Or were they sending out the feelers, only to find that it was a hopeless case?

What about “AFL boss only road block to world cup bid”, “Opposition continues to world cup bid continues in AFL state”, “AFL hard ball almost turned World Cup bid into a $45m non-event”, and “Blow to the World Cup Bid”. The list goes on.

Demetriou calls the kettle black

Moonface and Titus, haven’t you heard? AFL supporters enter into a debate with a football supporter on the following premises:
– AFL is better than football in every way
– AFL acted with the utmost decency during the World Cup bid, and did everything correctly, to say otherwise is absurd
– AFL does not try to keep other football codes down. How could you even claim that?
– Andrew Demetriou always makes the right decision. Always.
– There is no corruption in the AFL, and never has been.

Demetriou calls the kettle black

I don’t, trust me. Do you?

Demetriou calls the kettle black

What do you mean “seen them off”? Don’t flatter yourself, GCUs struggle has nothing to do with AFL. Read up on the issue, I’m sure you’ll find it enlightening.

And I hardly think you can already call the Suns a success until we start seeing some crowd figures.

Same deal for the Rovers.

Aren’t you all about the verifiable facts?

Demetriou calls the kettle black

I don’t think DD was saying that goalscoring wasn’t important. Point 10 is titled “have a deadly goalscorer”, not “score lots of goals”
