'Best place for me': Wallaby-in-waiting Jorgensen commits to Aussie rugby in boost ahead of Lions series

Fair enough Peter, if you know that the contracts for Kellaway and Jock ( JC), Petaia etc who compete for the same positions, pay more ( than MJ).

In any case it’s a hell of an outlay to test our credulity after the massive bucks sent Suallii’s way don’t you think? My principle point was about the amount of money spent on a player who hasn’t ( barely) played at highest level yet.

'Best place for me': Wallaby-in-waiting Jorgensen commits to Aussie rugby in boost ahead of Lions series

This is unfortunate. If Jorgensen was so motivated to play Lions tour and home World Cup he would accept less. He’s only 19 yrs old FFS.

Has he (MJ) already, by his deeds, pushed his worth beyond that of Campbell, Kellaway, Petaia etc, as a FB who deserves more pay?

Very risky strategy by RA to outlay these bucks along side the contract with Suaali’i. Their two highest paid players untested at highest level rugby. Does RA need Jorgensen as insurance against a Suaali’i flop or desertion back to NRL?

In any case good luck to the young lad and I hope he goes well.

I like this weeks Red’s team. However their inside channel is going to be challenged by Brumby’s big bodies. After taking their foot off the gas against the Force the Reds, at home ground, will be pumped. Kiss might decide that it’s time to keep pushing the Brumbies around the park and out of their formulaic patterns.

Super Rugby teams week six: Foketi back after horror injury, Suli benched, Sam Carter set for debut, DMac rested

Yeah I get that. HJH is on the bench for a reason ( he’s consistently good without being top-class) ) and the Englishman has experience and size. The Tahs bench hooker (Heaven) is a small guy so I understand your concern. TT might have a field day….if the Tahs give away too many penalties in their half.

Tahs look strong. Dead keen to see how young Will Harrison goes and the prop, Tom Ross.

Neither Brumbies nor Reds both have strong front rows but each have good locks and great loose forwards. Brumbies have a stronger bench which may tip the odds in their favour. Really looking forward to Brums v Reds.

Jones initially denied having discussions about the head coaching role following Tom Decent having said there was a zoom meeting which was an interview for that job. Jones later says that that zoom call was with a recruitment agency to discuss his previous experience in the job, which would help the JRFU frame their search for Jamie Joseph’s successor.

“The first interview I had with Japan was in December and that’s the only interview I’ve had.”

No-one has presented evidence that contradicts Jone’s account.

I think it’s reasonable to assert that Jones zoom call with the recruitment agency didn’t remove him from the frame for a possible future interview for the coaching job.

The first interview directly with JRU was in December.

Remember, the SMH said Jones was interviewing for the job back at end Aug 23. Since then almost everyone has called Jones a liar for denying that.

I think the mischief done by the SMH was in characterising the zoom call as a job interview.

I also think that if Jones had reason to suspect that his position with RA wasn’t secure, in spite of his stated commitment, that he was entitled to keep his options open for other future coaching positions. It is a common enough train of events for many coaches.

So, referring back to this article’s author’s statement that (the daily news cycle) «does not guarantee that the source of information is true…. », unfortunately many on the Roar accepted a journalists first report as ‘true’ and subsequently decided Jones was a liar. I think that Jones was presumed by many to be guilty based on a journalist’s heresay report, and that that is not just.

The Wrap: Wallaby's brain fade that cost the Tahs, con job worthy of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

« It does not guarantee that the source information is true, or represents all sides of an issue. »

Precisely! If Tom was decent he would have reminded his readers that what he was delivering was heresay. Without that a great mischief was done and plenty of Roarers were satisfied that Eddie was interviewing for the Japan coaching role, pre RWC, and then covered it up by lying. No first hand evidence. Mr Jones himself said he wasn’t interviewing for the coaches job. That’s the only first hand evidence we have. One would have thought that Eddie is innocent of what he was accused of till proven guilty.

Well there’s one thing setting it down like this achieves: killing off the delusions that there’s a depth of talent. In the forwards I suppose Bell in front row and Valentini can compete with their equals at international level. I like Ikitau at 13 and a winger or two.

The most urgent need is to develop a cohesive, competent, get the job done tight-five even without the talent. We don’t yet have an international standard 5/8. Hopefully one of those listed can develop into one.

However with a great coaching team I absolutely expect Aus to at least make semi’s at next World Cup. If other nations regress then who knows how far a well coached XV can advance?

Wallabies Power Rankings: How every Test contender is shaping up one month into Super Rugby

Thanks, the more lucidity the better. There’s a whole lot of paranoia about NSW somehow running rugby in this country.

The most absurd comments are about how RA stacks the WB’s full of Tahs. Conspiracy theories are formed from ignorance?

Strong custodians or factional hacks pushing state agendas? The numbers that will decide future of Australian rugby

So good to hear JS talk like this. He’s a realist. The days when Aus had a more talent per quantum of players than other countries is long gone IF they ever existed. I think why we often outplayed NH teams was due to the style of rugby and culture and the negative style of rugby they played. Not because we are more naturally endowed with talent.

Therefore countries like France, England, NZ and SA who have more player depth (numbers) are likely to have more talented individuals than Australia. With their smarter rugby IP, better coaches (till now?) and better competitions it’s no wonder they have moved in advance of Australia.

The myth that “we have the talent, we just need the right coach” is crap and that mindset has been a net negative in my opinion.

If anything I look at countries like Fiji (perhaps all PI’s and Māori) and apprehend more talent per thousand rugby players in those countries than any others.

'Talent can be fickle': Schmidt avoids rushing to conclusions as JOC calls for 'Reds-heavy' Wallabies

Great article! So many Roarers perpetuate the myth that RA is just an extension of Randwick rugby club stacked with Mosman residents.

Conspiracy theories abound on the Roar blaming RA as if they were NSW, forgetting that they have 2 ( sometimes three) votes out of 14 and that the board is appointed mostly by non-NSW states, who then choose a CEO.

RA signed the contract: $5M for three years. They are the ones that have to stump up the money. Whether 3rd party sponsors want to offer separate deals on top.. is another thing.

Yes there’s always that ongoing tension between values and material goals.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

Fair enough, thanks. I suppose I can’t stomach the idea of a player as yet untested at Super level and not yet setting the NRL alight in League coming straight in as a rookie at a higher pay grade than so many good established Super RU players.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

Agree, but they are young and impressionable and their agents convince them that they need to make as much money as they can, while they can, and f*^k loyalty.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

I hope RA can pull off a deal to let Suaali’i stay at Roosters if the Roosters offer good ‘compensation’. RA needs the money more than Suaali’i and he doesn’t look as promising a prospect as Folau was.

Jorgo would get smashed in the NRL. Not a good idea. Petaia is suited to NRL more than RU I think. Never looked happy in Union.

Seems there’s a few toxic comments on here about PW. I don’t see how he could have approved the ‘unauthorised’ funding as he only became CEO in June. That was after spending had been allocated to Jones and staff, i.e. shortly before the WB squad left for France.

Waugh also countered, publicly, in October 23, Jones assertion of a lack of funding.

How the unauthorised funding occurred isn’t known, yet!

Has Waugh personally got it in for the Rebels as some suggest? Is it not rather that RA as well as so many Roarers and New Zealanders just cannot see five SR teams out of Aus being competitive?

Add to that, a reluctance, in RA’s current financial state, to financially prop up the one SR club that for now appears to have mishandled their finances. Caveat on that is we’ll need to see submissions made in the current litigation.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

Cale and Reimer got massive wraps last week. Along with internationals Valetini, Tom Hooper and Frost all should fairly have been expected to make a contest at rucks and mauls etc. Why weren’t they up for it? Are Lolesiou and Sapsford capable of defending the inside channel?

'Reality check': Brumbies cop hiding from Chiefs in worst display ever under Larkham

Edmed picked four times for Aus A. He was competing against Donaldson during 2022 for the 10 position. Donaldson got picked for the Spring tour to Europe. I used to think that Edmed’s ‘ceiling’ was higher than Donaldson’s but seems BD could come into his own this year?

'Reality check': Brumbies cop hiding from Chiefs in worst display ever under Larkham

Didn’t finish his contract with the Reds. Perhaps he’ll be loyal to The Force. We’ll see, eh?

Force cop fresh blows after Rodda's latest setback and Pearce's ban, Rebels open up on 'deflating' start

Well he left before his contract with Reds was going to end and rather than stick, he and the two others wouldn’t accept a Covid driven pay reduction. So to France he goes. He hasn’t elucidated further. He f*^# s off OS and wanting to return, scored a contract with the Force. It throws up the old loyalty/ want to play for WB’s versus I want to earn as much as I can but have my cake and eat it too ( play for WB’s).

Force cop fresh blows after Rodda's latest setback and Pearce's ban, Rebels open up on 'deflating' start

In third year of three year contract. Bugger all value to the Force. He didn’t show loyalty to the Reds, so one wonders what next for IR. It seems some guys coming back from one kind of injury are susceptible to another kind from lack of game time.

Rodda is just one of so many disappointments in Aus rugby who we Roarers thought was WB’s first pick second-rower and just fizzles into the ether. Having said that I’d love to see Rodda re-establish himself.

Force cop fresh blows after Rodda's latest setback and Pearce's ban, Rebels open up on 'deflating' start

Thoroughly agree. However, there is a greater incentive for the best NZ players to stay in NZ if they have a hope of playing for AB’s. They have a tighter ‘Giteau Law’

Aus players who play the forth most popular winter sport here and consider themselves ‘fringe’ have more motivation to go OS for fun, bigger bucks and higher standard rugby.

Therefore there is less chance for cohesion, continuity of any particular Aus SR team, and the pathways get broken.

Perhaps an evening-up mechanism ( I wonder which ones you have contemplated) is a quota of players that a loaned by the best clubs to the less successful ones. However I can see a valid criticism of that being a lowering of the standard in the best NZ teams and that would infect the quality of NZ rugby as a whole.

Would a two tier competition be an answer? Trouble is the second tier might not get revenue from Tele rights if they are not broadcast.

What to do??

The Wrap: Opening round of SRP a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same

Lots of wraps on ahere for Noah. He played a low-mistake game as usual and kicked his goals. Made one good break and a clever chip through.

Carter Gordon is twice the footy player though. He makes far more telling tackles and far more cut out passes than NL. Trouble is he’s not up to standard with his kicking and one of his passes was intercepted. If CG was playing for the Brumbies he’d out-shine NL in my opinion.
