A great game of AFL and a fitting result when you consider Collingwood were the top side for most of the year and had that heart-breaking loss in 2018. It’s heartening to see how a team that was in the doldrums not so long ago can quickly re-set and transform themselves into a premiership team as the Pies have done. Despite the pain of defeat today, Brisbane have had an excellent year and will again be among the contenders in 2024. Congratulations Collingwood!

Grand Final Fix: How Fly's Pies beat the Lions at their own game for a 16th - and greatest - flag

That result pretty much sums up the season for a Raiders fan. So near and yet so far. They are a tough side to follow and keep you on the edge of your seat every game. Just when they look to have the game in control they manage to invite their opponents back into the contest through indiscipline and lack of concentration. It’s something Sticky really needs to address as it is a continual theme week in and week out. Consistent full 80 minute efforts and this team can take that next step.

Good luck Newcastle for next week but the Warriors will be hard to beat at home. Penrith again showed they are warming up for their three-peat and only Brisbane look capable of stopping them.

The Raiders are literally limping into the finals with injuries and suspensions and face an uphill task to survive the first week. It is a very subdued feeling despite making the top 8.
There is not much conviction about their form of late and they have been over-whelmed by 2 fellow finalists in 3 weeks. Funnier things have happened and Sticky do everything he can to motivate the side in his usual us against them style, but I suspect it will time to start planning for 2024 and reshaping the attack post-Wighton come Monday week.
As far as the competition itself, Penrith have again proven it is their’s to lose and they are 3 wins away from a truly remarkable three-peat.

A three-peat for Penrith is gaining serious momentum heading into finals. The only team who can beat the Panthers is themselves if they get complacent or else untimely injuries. There doesn’t seem to be any team capable of matching them for 80 minutes.

Raiders were brought back to earth today against a fired up Melbourne outfit and will need to lift their game or risk sliding out of finals contention. Warning bells were ther last week when they failed to finish off the job against the hapless Tigers and had a relaity check today. On recent form they will struggle to go deep in September.

Round 24 Talking Points: Three more teams bite the dust and Eels on life support, Souths stuck in second gear

Despite the last 2 losses I think the Raiders are performing to expectations when you consider their injuries and the slow start to the season. Newcastle were red hot today and the Warriors are always hard to beat at home. They are not a top 4 side but should string enough wins to make the finals. Come September anything can happen.

Warner won’t be dropped unless he goes the rest of the series without a half-century and Australia lose the Ashes. The selectors pick and stick.

Raiders have done well to be sitting equal first when you consider they have yet to put together a consistent 80 minute effort. I am wondering is this is as good as it gets under Stuart…flashes of brilliance but costly periods of sloppy and indifferent play. Or is there a chance that Sticky can remedy these inherent weknesses and this side can go all the way. I suspect it is a case of the former and the Raiders will continue to tease their long suffering supporters.
I have been mightily impressed with Fogarty and Timoko since May They have given the club cause for optimism to offset Wighton’s departure next year.

Totally stoked for all Raiders fans after all the noise and hysteria during the week. Took the long way home to get the win today but what else would you expect from a team that tests their supporters nerve week in and week out.

'P-ssed off' Ricky fires up over teary Wighton's exit as Raiders avoid Dolphins deja vu with field goal win

A bit harsh considering he’s only 6 games into a 5-year rebuild and started with 2 successive wins. Apart from the Lions match North have been competitive in every game and came up against an improved Suns outfit last week. Injuries to their key players haven’t helped either which can impact a young side looking for on-field guidance. Clarkson knows it will be a long path to get the team firing so it’s not all about the wins at this stage.

It's time to turn up the heat on Clarko

I’m sure Ricky wishes he could bottle the effort tonight.

ANALYSIS: Broncos stutter as Sticky fires up Raiders for their performance of the year

Early days but there were plenty of positives to come out of that win for North. No disrespect to Shaw and Nobes, but there is something reassuring about having Clarkson at the helm after a few years of hit and miss strategy. Things will slowly but surely fall into place for North this year as they develop a blueprint for future success.

Footy Fix: The Shinboner Spirit returns! Clarko's first masterpiece gets Roos back to their roots

Congratulations to India on a comprehensive victory. However, I recall India getting thumped in the first Test in Australia in 2020 and they were written off before winning that series with a depleted touring squad. Things can turn around pretty quickly so not quite panic stations yet. Australia had it too easy against a South African team masquerading as a Test team and this defeat wasn’t totally unexpected.

My word Clarkson looks good in the Royal Blue polo!
As Corey Mckernan said, after another dismal season all North supporters will be walking a little taller today.

Almost there. Hopefully next week the Raiders can get either a draw or the win! Can’t fault Sticky’s passion or loyalty to his team.

Sticky 'embarassed and sorry' after nightmare Raiders second half sees Warriors win in golden point

Considering Australia had been heavily beaten by West Indies at home leading up to this series Border would have happily taken a 4-0 series win. Lack of success in the early years led to a safety first approach in Border ‘s captaincy even when Australia were dominating world cricket.

How Australia could have won the 1989 Ashes 6-0

Nobes has done a great job this year in establishing a structure that will serve North well in the years ahead. He seems to provide a sense of calm and order when the tide is running against him.
He’s no fool and knows the honeymoon period is now over and the board will expect an improvement in 2022 given his belief the side would be potential finalists in a few years. Will be interesting to see how he goes in translating improvement into tangible results.

'Best wooden spooner ever?': North Melbourne's 2021 in review

Bulldogs ended their drought in 2016 then Tigers did it in 2017. Would be great to see Melbourne finally do it this year. That will give the Saints hope in 2022.

Dees shut out flag talk after defeating Dogs

A rare article of false hope for suffering North supporters or a denial of reality? Only time will tell.

Noble is no fool and knows he is in for a tough year getting the team’s structure right. More losses will follow but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after only 3 games. If Noble can get 3 or 4 wins this year and develop the youngsters than that is a tick for him.

Why North Melbourne will not win the 2021 wooden spoon

Considering the raft of changes North made to their list in the off-season, Noble is going to need most of the season to get the team to gel as a cohesive unit before any major improvement. They’ll be up for the challenge of avoiding the wooden spoon by August.

David Noble adamant improvement will come for North Melbourne

I’m supporting Paine and hoping he can lead Australia in the next Ashes series. He is a class act and has been a great ambassador for the game. India were simply the better team again but the Aussies will quickly regroup under the expert guidance of Langer for SA.

Tim Paine's time as captain is done as Australia crumble to humiliation against India

Congratulations India. It was a great series to watch. Don’t think this is all doom and gloom for Australia. The Aussies will quickly bounce back against England next season. Hopefully Starc can get his mojo back in SA…he has a habit of firing after a poor series.

Congratulations Richmond. This was an impressive win tonight coming from behind at half time. Full credit to Hardwick and Cotchin on a job well done during an unusual season. Enjoy the win Tiger fans.

It's Tiger time again: Richmond topple Cats in AFL grand final

The Raiders fans shouldn’t be too disappointed after going so close to another GF. It was another terrific year for the Green Machine in what was a season full of distractions and injuries. They will back up for 2021 choc full of confidence.
Storm looking like premiers now and hopefully Smith goes out a winner. He has been an amazing player for so long who just keeps going.

Storm trounce Raiders to book grand final berth

Redemption in spades for Canberra. An awesome performance and full credit to how Sticky has got this team believing in themselves. This time they were focused from the kick off and held their nerve at the end. Of course they will be no match for Storm next week.
