I agree and said so in my article.

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

Hi Don, the results by any measurement you like to use indicate the governance of rugby in Australia has been poorly served by the constitution which has delivered a Board populated by bankers, financiers and professional board operatives.
Our objective is to have a Board selected by a broad base of rugby stakeholders.
A new constitution would have to be written to determine details of how broad this is but there are many examples available for discussion.
We have no one to put up, no desire or ambition to be part of any restructure or hold any office.

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

Hi Ballymore Brumby, We wrote to the Member Unions, created a Facebook page, advertised in two newspapers listing the results of the past twenty years, the survey was an opportunity for people to have their say, a straw poll.
It appears you are happy with the status quo, which is fine.
Let’s see where more of the same takes us.

That actually was not our recommendation but a member of the rugby public.
Our recommendation is for constitutional change and a board refresh.,

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

It indicates a desire for change. If the survey was done by 700 rugby people do you think the result would much different.,

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

Hi Piru, I suggest you have a look at my earlier response. The survey was an opportunity for people to have a say. The results of the past years are the catalyst for needing constitutional change.

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

The survey is irrelevant, it was an opportunity for rugby people to have their say. The real measurements are $50m debt, low participation, poor skill levels and Wallabies ranked 9th.
The question is, do you want more of the same.

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

Our purpose in highlighting the poor governance of RA is attempt to change the constitution. A constitution which allows the rugby population to select Board candidates from the widest possible base hopefully would create a Board of rugby knowledgeable people who can reset the direction of rugby in Australia. There is no hidden agenda, no pushing of barrows.
Twenty years of what we now have has brought rugby in Australia to this point. At some stage a change must happen, look at the trajectory over the past twenty years.

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

Actually it was, it was part of an advertisement in the Australian and the SMH, also on Facebook and change.org, also mentioned in a previous Roar article.

Where to now for Rugby Australia? Survey that reveals fans' staggering levels of pessimism

I agree the Freshwater survey is based upon a good sample. The survey we did was advertised in the Australian and SMH and was part of a change.org site. We also mentioned it in an article in the Roar and on the SOARR Facebook site. It was a straw poll and only over a couple of weeks, the numbers small but the response was definite.
I published them as an indication of the interest in the subject and of those interested what the mood was.
Remember our goal is for a new constitution as under the present regime of bankers and financiers rugby has significantly diminished. The question for the Roar population is, are you happy with what you have and do you want more of the same.

Correct and needs to be addressed .

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Hi Sheek and Piru, yes a big workload and one that would need to be managed carefully by the Interim Board and maybe not doable in 12 months. I think a sensible Board would be able to extend the tenure but details such as this can be resolved.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Hi blink, we are not putting ourselves up for anything. Our names are published on the facebook page and there are no secrets. We don’t promote anyone and have no contact with Hamish McLennan. Our goal is for a new constitution and open elections by the rugby population of Australia. There is nothing subversive about this.
Our position is the current constitution has created a board of bankers and board operatives with very little rugby knowledge. It is self fulfilling and a closed shop.
Surely an openly elected and a board selected by the rugby population is something to be desired.

????

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

Yes we will do this, there are examples around.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

This is an excellent comment and I think reflects the large majority of rugby people. I never hear of anyone who says,” What a great place rugby is in, how lucky are we”.
RA trajectory is dreadful, if we remain, status quo where do we get. Forget short term hits, they will happen, we need full on, long term structural change.
It takes guts, hard work and probably passion from the people involved but it can happen.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

The SOARR have listed the problems and actual state of RA. The objective is for a new constitution with the power to elect a Board of the best of the nominated people selected Australia wide and voted by the rugby population. Not a closed shop nominations committee of mates, bankers and board operatives.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

These two comments are correct. The reason for the action by SOARR is because of in house nepotism and the closed shop of the Board election process. Australian rugby deserves the best Board possible and that can only come from open canvassing of potential Board members and a vote from the rugby population.
An absolute clean sweep.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

Thanks and let’s hope the Member Unions agree and make a stand to get back to the rugby public who take ownership of the game, not the bankers and other operatives.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

There have been several attempts at a reset but nothing. There is much to be done, much coming on we can’t waste another year. I know daunting but the Member Unions must stand up and be counted.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Facebook.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

On field decisions etc is not what this is about. We are agitating for a new constitution and an openly elected Board.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

The Board of RA needs people who understand what it will take to develop and implement a plan that can turn around the fortunes of rugby in Australia. That means skills development, coaching pathways, financial plan for sustainability, grassroots requirements and community connections. They principally need to understand the game and have a passion to see the Wallabies back at number one.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Well that’s not accurate and none now want to be on any Board. The request is for a Board elected by the rugby population, open and transparent.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Great, let’s galvanise, get the No Confidence vote, a new constitution and Board and get the grassroots and have rugby people reclaim the game. 100% correct.
