THE FATMAN – you clearly are a very passionate and frustrated pies fan. I think I am too. It goes back to the 1970-1981 years when we lost so many premiership chances. 1990 and 2010 successes are insufficient.
I tend to agree with much you have said – Buckley is a poor match day coach when the momentum swings against us. (eg his lack of use of Greenwood when Melbourne came back against us in the 3rd quarter)
But you are very harsh on one of our greatest ever players, referring to his salary etc
The whole situation makes me feel very torn.
I think his game plan does not equate to the skill levels of the players and that is the problem.
His game plan can be attractive but is high risk – too many intercepts from poor kicking skills giving the opposition easy goals. We need to either skill up (difficult, not many Wells about)) or refine the game plan (probably under a new coach)
Also the back-line is missing leadership and direction (no Hodge, no Maxwell, no Rance, no Grundy types)
A couple of key position players both up forward and down back would change the pies fortunes.
Need a new recruitment team – I’ll never get over the stupidity of getting Mayne, especially for 4 years on good money. It really riles me.I wanted us to chase young Stewart who ended up at Essendon.
We live in hope.

Hot-and-cold Wells grasps keys to Buckley’s future

Key Factors in Collingwood’s demise include:

1.Started at the top and most likely direction was down initially.
2.Loss of experienced defenders: Maxwell, Shaw, Johnson, etc
3.Some Very Poor recruiting – too many mids (didn’t need Greenwood, Wells), poor key position recruits (White, Mayne, etc), non chasing of Stewart (now at Essendon), poor other choices (Lynch, Young,
4. Loss of Beames (all class) and Swan a year or two earlier than expected (and which probably triggered the Wells recruitment).
5. Bad management of Travis Cloke.
6. Game Plan not in line with skill set of the players insufficient.
7. Media placing great emphasis on the Malthouse/Buckley succession and its success or otherwise and the snowballing expectation.
8.Too much change in the Football department.

I actually think the list is not too bad – get a key centre-half forward (eg Tippett or Sam Reid) and then there is much better structure and adopt a more defensive orientated game plan with a new coach (which would release a lot of pressure) and success will follow.

However, need change at the Club: President, CEO and Coach should all go at end of year. Also change recruitment department.A new broom!

List management the coach-killer at Collingwood

Whilst not many attend men’s state cricket, a lot follow it.
You also want to keep state crickets playing by offering a relatively attractive salary to them, so you have a pool of players to pick internationally. No doubt same applies to the women. I think CA have increased the offer to women.

Watto says cricket fans know players are being fair in pay dispute

The ACA / players are too focused on share of gross revenue.
The proposed salaries by CA for both men and women at both International ($1.16m av in 2016/17 to $1.45m 2021/22 for men and $29,000 16/17 to $210k in 2021/22)) and State levels ($199k to $235k for men, $22k to $55k for women) plus a share in profits up to $20m show substantial increases over the next 5 years (35%), giving players a high degree of certainty and excellent reward. This excludes IPL, etc.
Yet the actual revenues are uncertain – 80% is uncontracted.
If I was a player I’d accept and if the % of revenue decreases significantly over the next 5 years, fight for more then.
Ie; try this new model

Life is a jungle and a battle. Boxing is just a short version of that.
We can’t make a nanny state of things all the time.
Sure their are dangers to their long term health, but I can’t help admiring the contest, their bravery, courage and skill.
They get well remunerated for the risks and no one is forcing them into the ring.

Why I can't watch Manny vs The Hornet

I like Buckley in that he’s articulate and understands the game and was a champion player.
He’s has got Collingwood playing an attractive style of play recently (although it is very susceptible to skill errors – eg; miss kicks across goal).
However, he needs to react better when changes during the game are required. Eg; when Petracca and Jones were running a muck in the 3rd quarter yesterday. Why didn’t Greenwood go to Jones, for example?

Buckley ready to walk away 'if it's best for Magpies'

Smith should have been named man of the series, not Jadeja. Without Smith it would have been 4 – nil India.

Australia vs India Test series player ratings

India are very good team at home – good top 5 batters, good paceman in Yadav, two best spinners in the world

Warner shows he can’t bat in tough conditions.

Australia has over relied on Smith. He was a bit too impatient yesterday.

Khawaja has been grossly mistreated in this series.

Forget the Marshs going forward.

Cummings looks terrific.

Maxwell is a great talent who deserves a reasonable run at test cricket.

Wade has been good this series

Renshaw and Handscomb are still learning the game and will improve – keep them in.

Lyon does a very good job – don’t expect him to be a world beater.

Overall, Australia have good bowling prospects, especially pace attack but the batting is a WIP. They have down better than envisaged this series.

Australia squander an elusive series win in India

My thoughts:
1. India are v good team in home conditions – good top 5 batters, Yadav v good fast bowler and the 2 best spinners in the world.

2.Australia relied far too heavily on Smith.

3. Warner is an average batter in conditions where the ball swings, cuts or spins.

4. Not playing Khawaja probably cost us the series

5.pace and
