And we have to hear his narrow-minded uneducated take on social issues too, exposing a simple man steeped in bigotry. I remember he encouraged people to boo and mocked Adam Goodes when he stood up to racism. Dare I say Warne has an audience? Sad but true

Sounds like I touched a nerve or, I dunno, an insecurity

Desperate and immature.

It might be hard for you to hear that mate, especially considering the trauma you experienced in the WC final. Happy to hear your counter, if you have one

Good comeback

Yes they’re big omissions for you but your first choice front row still wouldn’t stand a chance. So it’s a lack of talent rather than depth

Show me an English fan who doesn’t whine with a shade of arrogance and I’ll show you a liar. Boks are without Faf, PSDT and Kolbe. Arguably our three best players. We’ve also been playing a replacement outside centre at 14 for three games. Your first choice front row is poor, and your second choice is very poor. Don’t whine about your lack of talent and depth, the two aren’t mutually exclusive

Hi Jonty, I do watch his contributions closely. I know his only saving grace is that he can play first receiver and put players in space with his ball distribution. I know that’s important to our backline, but as we’ve seen when Steyn replaces him, we still have the necessary ball skills to create plays and score tries. Willie is an absolute liability on defence, under the high ball and kicking out of hand. His weaknesses are too much to accommodate. He has to go

Yes 8 is a bit concern. So much exciting talent in SA that won’t have enough time to be ready for WC either as a starter or Duane’s backup. Keen to pick your brain, do you think Neinaber is a good coach? All ok seeing is a good defensive mind being thrust into a position he’s not close to ready for – I wonder how much he pushes back on Rassie’s ideas, if at all…

Completely agree with point 2, Jonty. I worried Kwagga was too much of a tweener flank but he’s definitely found his niche this season. I also am tearing my hair out that Neinaber and Rassie are sticking with Willie and, to a lesser extent, Kriel. I have grave concerns there are designs to take Willie to the WC ????

Not sure what bookies you’re going to

Agree but can’t reconcile Le Roux being picked ahead of Steyn (or Fassi but I get he lacks experience for such a bug game) and Kriel over the better specialist in Nkosi

Totally agree Biltong. And by far the luckiest player this season has been Willie le Roux. I honestly don’t know what else he has to do to be unpicked. The guy is a liability in all aspects of the game. His only saving grace is he can put the backline in motion and players in space, but even that skill has diminished of late. We really missed a beat not blooding Fassi this year.

Yes and we all know how they choked in 2007. Lost twice to the Pumas!

Love the confident takes, Harry. I think France will be more of a threat but am the first to admit I’m influenced by hope, as an exciting, well-performing French team is always good for world rugby. As for my Bokke, the depth at front and second row is the best in the game currently, and the back three is perfectly balanced with good depth bar no. 8. We definitely need to blood one or two of Roos, Buthelezi or Louw next year. In the backline we have the depth, balance and horses for courses but Rassie and his mouthpiece must voetsak Willie and Herschel now now! We need Fassi playing 15 and Reinach as Faf’s 2IC. And we need Frans to find two more years in those beautiful tree trunks to ride the pine

Bravo Chris, completely agree. Farr-Jones encapsulates what we are up against to progress as a society. Sincerely hope many Wallabies take a knee
The Wallabies taking a knee is a matter of conscience
Side note, Geoff do you agree that the rugby commentary panel (Kearns, Martin and Kafer) are the most unsophisticated and biased in the business? I’m shocked at how long they’ve been kept on. They come off as old boy block heads, and I feel is such a poor advertisement for Aussie rugby
Green versus gold: Mining talent in South Africa
Would love to see Willemse wrestle the no.10 shirt from Elton but the Springbok Showdown could not have gone any worse for Willemse. An absolute shocker . Elton’s grip just got stronger
The fight for second fiddle: Who should understudy Handre Pollard?
Nice article. Lord help us all if Morne is picked in the squad. Rassie won’t do it but the thought makes me sick. Du Perez is very one dimensional and has been quite pedestrian for Sale this season. My hope is that Kade Wolhuter is groomed to be the understudy and is no. 2 come the 2023 WC. But in the next year or two I suspect the no. 2 job will remain Elton’s. He’s not inspiring but a known quantity that Rassie has faith in it seems.
The fight for second fiddle: Who should understudy Handre Pollard?
I agree Elton is the custodian, but he’s so uninspiring. He kicks well at poles and has a decent step but is slow, feeble of D and plays poorly when the forwards aren’t getting go forward ball. I just pray Pollard is back to full health for the Lions tour and Kade Wolhuter comes along as the understudy
The curious case of Damian Willemse
I’m glad someone took the time to write about this topic. I too have been following Willemse’s development since his Junior Springbok days. His ceiling is incredibly high but his recent form at no. 10 for Stormers and last Saturday leave me worried. Maybe 15 is the answer. Le Roux has his place but I’d prefer Rassie/Jacques to back Willemse at 15 moving forward. Once we get Pollard back, De Klerk at 9, Pollard at 10, 11. Mapimpi, 12. DDA, 13. Am, 14. Kolbe and 15. Willemse is the sexist thing SA has produced since Charlize Theron!
The curious case of Damian Willemse
I think Scotland are in really danger of losing to Japan. I’m tipping this as the biggest upset of the pool stage. Vern Cotter laid so much groundwork and tossing him aside for Townsend was a monumental mistake
Rugby World Cup 2019 preview series: Pool A
Ah of course BB, I forgot about Kriel! I don’t understand how he was overlooked by Rassie. I agree he should be there in place of Kwagga. I also think Rohan Janse van Rensburg has been so unlucky not to be considered at 12. He’s got much more to offer than DDA and Esterhuizen (than god the latter wasn’t picked for the WC squad)
Kolisi returns as Springboks name World Cup squad
Great article and insightful analysis into the form of Irish players and their system deficiencies, in particular. As for my Boks, I can’t help but tear my hair out at the prospect of Jacques/ Rassie sticking with Le Roux. What more could he do to get dropped??!! Gelant has bided his time practising at club level and looks the goods. Start him now so he’s in peak form for the WC. Please Jacques!
