While the football world are selecting and debating their top 50 players, I decided to go with a different approach, ranking the top 20…
An AFL draft lottery is long overdue. It is almost unfathomable in the modern era of online betting and media scrutiny that losing games…
It is the 125th anniversary for the Collingwood Football Club this season, and four years since last playing finals football. Compound that with the…

Jenkins is an excellent player, but didn’t think he was in the top 20. Tex also a gun, but rankings are based on overall performance, not individual towelings
The AFL's top 20 key position players
Would you have Jenkins in there? We are talking key-position players
The AFL's top 20 key position players
I don’t think Heeney is a top 50 player based on his performance to date. No doubt he will easily be in this list for years to come, but right now a player like Sidebottom is more deserving. Agree with the Zorko pick though, underrated due to playing on a struggling non-victorian side
The Roar's 2017 AFL top 50 players: 50-41
Agree with Ramsay, Sinclair out means someone has to take the opposition’s dangerous small forward and Ramsay can fill that role well, also like his rebound game. Dunn will play out of necessity however, key stocks very limited
2017 AFL preview series: Collingwood Magpies - 11th
Agreed, that best 22 looks impressive, we just never get to see it on a consistent basis unfortunately. Very competitive year for spots in the bottom half of the 8 though
2017 AFL preview series: Gold Coast Suns - 12th
Gary is looking as dangerous as I’ve ever seen the man. The GOAT is on top of his game
India vs Australia Highlights: Cricket live scores, blog, 2nd Test – Day 3
Do you reckon Josh Caddy will be playing as a pure midfielder from round 1? Tigers have some talent in the guts but I’ve always believed Caddy can be a decent mid if given the opportunity
Port Adelaide vs Richmond: JLT Community Series live scores, blog
I just simply can’t see Richmond making the finals in 2017. Lack of depth around the ground and many of the players in their 22 are new to the system and will take time to adapt. But hey, they may surprise us all
2017 AFL ladder prediction: A Sydney premiership?
A 100% chance at the number 1 pick instead of having a 30% chance statistically increases the incentive to lose. If the reward is 70% less likely, the incentive to lose significantly lowers.
It's time the AFL gave the draft lottery a spin
Thanks Ryan! I agree, the draft lottery is an exciting time of each season, would love to watch it all unfold in the AFL
It's time the AFL gave the draft lottery a spin
The saints had a pretty fortunate run with injuries last season. I believe continuity in a team is as important as anything, and something the saints were lucky enough to have last season. If they can get the same smooth run of health they’re every chance of the 8, however i could say the same thing of multiple teams in that 8-13 area of the ladder
St Kilda or Melbourne, who's ready to play finals?
That is why the draft lottery could be effective, Brisbane would be more likely to try perform at their best if the odds for getting the first pick were 20%, in comparison to finishing last and having 100% certainty
It's time the AFL gave the draft lottery a spin
As i stated, i do agree that tanking is not a large issue in the AFL, however implementing the lottery would decrease the temptation of clubs to rest players and ‘experiment’ with their lineups late in the season, thus making for a greater spectacle for the fans
It's time the AFL gave the draft lottery a spin
That is a good point which I’m sure the AFL would investigate if they did decide to eventually go down the lottery path, the bottom sides do need help in order to improve their position. As i said, it’s far from flawless but has its benefits
It's time the AFL gave the draft lottery a spin
I left out Henry Schade from the key defensive stocks, looked capable against the Dons and is a sneaky chance of playing solid senior football this season
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
If they can manage a home qualifying final they’re every chance of making the granny after 2 finals at the Adelaide Oval. Shown they’re capable of a top 4 finish last season if not for a round 23 slip up
Are the Crows genuine contenders?
I still believe Nathan Fyfe is the dominant player of the competition if his body holds up. The man polled 9 BOG’s in the first 14 rounds in 2015. Superstar
Will Dangerfield continue to rise?
I agree with the midfield comments, the pies midfield has looked impressive on paper during Buckley’s entire tenure, without necessarily performing to expectations on the field. We were killed in the clearances last season, Well’s tore us to shreds in the middle of the ground when the pies played North, perhaps a good sign for the future!
Cornwill's season previews: Collingwood
Scott was one of the more difficult coaches to rank, yet his side consistently finishes high up the ladder, leaving me no choice but to give the man some love
AFL coaches: Pre-season power rankings
i also think that Keefe may still play in defence, he looked reasonable there before his ban and there’s a role for him if he can grab it. Scharenberg is an exciting prospect who should improve our ball movement from defence, lets hope he stays healthy!
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
I do believe that the return of Elliot, the addition of the new recruits, and the natural progression of some younger players should bolster our overall depth. Plenty of medium sized players and not enough talls in my opinion however, which could be our penultimate downfall
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
Agreed, continuity is vital to a successful footy club and is something that has evaded us for the last few seasons. In saying that, the Bulldogs managed to win a flag after suffering numerous injuries to key players.
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
Completely agree, perhaps it’s a structural issue but the forward pressure has been missing in recent times. Mayne is an elite tackler for his position however and should help us improve in that area. Will need others to come with him though.
The Pies' season hinges on health, defensive setup and new recruits
Agreed, the top 10-12 were easy to rank, was a difficult task to put the rest of them in order due to a noticeable drop off
