This comment isn’t gonna exactly please everyone but just faaark off will you Buckley? I think you’re a great special comments guy and have ok game knowledge but you are not a coaches ar$ehole. That grand final in 2018 doesn’t count cause Eddie MKKKGuire had everyone on notice and stuck a bomb under the entire club; perform or else.
You’ve got a good line in all sorts of things and can make people feel great cause you can make things sound so simple but most fully functioning narcissists are and you fit the bill beautifully.
Everything is plastic about you mate, and I’m glad you’re getting warm fuzzys when you knock back apparent requests to apply for the Essendon job (the press are the only ones that are asking you), and get to add your little suggestions if they want (invoice payable to wegotworkdone) but there won’t be any formal requests.
I think they want a coach who is experienced with premierships. I think you’ve got experience watching other people get them but that’s it.

So you’ve based this off 1 individual game each – not exactly a range is it.
Go back and look over each players respective contributions over the years, in particular the likelihood of Essendon winning when tippa hits the scoreboard. You can’t afford not having that, and most teams have that type for that reason.
Essendon struggle to win if he’s contained. Richmond continued to win without Townsend ie he’s replaceable and therefor you can afford to lose him. He had a good game on a big stage, but for Richmond to shop him even after that says something.
All this youre basing this on crystal balling and two good games, in novel circumstances, without a crowd and round 1 when the first few games mean fk all until teams find their stride.
I hope to god Townsend becomes irreplaceable as his hardness is something Essendon lack, but hardness is pointless these days without a few more weapons. Unfortunately everyone gets a bit excited when someone plays beyond their potential.
Put it this way, tippa playing poorly is just as noticeable as Townsend having a belter and I’ve always said that’s the difference between important and depth players.
Have another look at the end of the year. Cause this article just reminds me of lazy, rushed, herald sun type observations designed to fill a page rather than doing some diligence and not insulting people who watch the game closely.

The only bashing that goes on these days is wade bashing. I think his numbers stack up fine but he seems to be a target for people that find him unfashionable.

AP aside, good observations regarding an appointment that seems open to interpretation by some, but pretty straight forward; woosh was recruited to instil calm and structure in the grimmest of times and did that. His family had gone back which to me meant it was part of the planning which had truck very much in those plans.
Signing him up was an pretty obvious priority; his work with the backs was under rated at times but his reputation as a coach in waiting was well deserved.
I for one welcome our new truck over lord. I also extend a massive, massive thanks to John worsfold who some have overlooked as the factor who bought the peace and healing we needed, and set up the environment for rutten. I think he will be properly appreciated by some in the future as being part of a plan that wasn’t necessarily designed for immediate success, but has given us genuine foundation for success in the future.
Just remember also, hawthorn beat west coast, Essendon plays Collingwood in eliminator who we pushed in the last round, a win and a semi was highly possible.
Totally different legacy for 2019 for club and coach.
