I agree with what you’re saying! But I think the Coleman is a good reflection of the games best forward, and enough recognition for them.
The AFL needs a defensive player of the year award
I would regard players like Saad, Sicily, Laird and co as ‘offensive defenders’ if that makes sense. While they can all be great interceptors, their main contribution to the team is to launch attacks off the half back line through either run and carry or elite disposal. Often they still put up great numbers, and hence get the attention they deserve. Instead I’d like to see the award go to defensively minded players.
Hurley has been awesome! HIs job on Buddy the other week was outstanding and deserved a lot more attention.
The AFL needs a defensive player of the year award
McGovern should’ve been in there, you’re right. He has been played up forward a few times this year, but I don’t deny he has had an outstanding season. But I think he has to back it up a for a few more seasons to be given the number 1 defender title over Rance. And to say that Barrass has had a better season than Rance clearly just shows Rance is a victim of his own standards…
The AFL needs a defensive player of the year award
Are you talking about Tommy? Cause in my opinion he’s been by far the best midfielder this year. But I was just focusing on the next crop of stars who are yet to hit their prime age.
Deciding between Kelly, Cripps and Oliver
I personally think Kelly could’ve won it this year had’ve he played a full season
Deciding between Kelly, Cripps and Oliver
Agree that Kelly is the best, but don’t think Cripps and Oliver are that far behind
Deciding between Kelly, Cripps and Oliver
You’re exactly right, and it was pretty much a toss of the coin for me between Kelly and Cripps. And i’d quite probably choose Cripps if he played for GWS or a team of similar calibre.
Deciding between Kelly, Cripps and Oliver
Thanks Aransan! I agree, superstar, so no need for a cop out tactic.
Joel Selwood’s unwanted contribution to the AFL
If players go for his waist, then his arms are free and he can easily dispose of it?
Joel Selwood’s unwanted contribution to the AFL
100% agree. He’s such a classy footballer, he shouldn’t have to need to do this. But he’ll always be remembered for it. So many people who I watch the footy with see another player doing it, and say “he’s done a Selwood.”
Joel Selwood’s unwanted contribution to the AFL
Good point, it also a responsibility of the AFL to do their bit to remove this from our game.
Joel Selwood’s unwanted contribution to the AFL
I acknowledged that Selwood is a superstar, a brilliant leader, and in the highest tier of midfielders in the competition. I also acknowledged that what Selwood does is not cheating, and thus permitted under the rules of the game. And finally, I acknowledged that Sicily deserved punishment for what he did.
However, to argue that just because what Selwood does is technically legal that it is completely innocent is incorrect. Like I’ve said, it shows a lack of skill to be able to escape a high pressure situation.
Joel Selwood’s unwanted contribution to the AFL
Definitely a good point about Wall. If you look at a young LeBron in 2007, he took the Cavs to the finals with a very mediocre line-up; I’d love to see Wall do the same.
I was a huge Kyrie fan up until how he handled his trade request. I think he owed LeBron the respect of personally informing him of his desires before he went public. I also don’t understand why he’d give up the chance of more titles, just for a good stats sheet in the green.
Kyrie Irving: Life after LeBron
Agree that Steph is the best guard in the game, however he is 29 years old, whereas Kyrie is 25 and yet to hit his prime. I’m still not quite convinced with John Wall. He’s no doubt a superstar but I question whether he’ll ever be able to bring major success to Washington.
As for Simmons, all-star status is definitely a possibility, as is a genuine challenge for the ROTY. Look out Lonzo.
Kyrie Irving: Life after LeBron
They’re a giant in the trade and free agency period. Have been since Clarko took over, no matter how they’ve gone during the season.
Don’t wake the sleeping giant: Hawthorn's potential off-season moves
Agreed Birdman! You and me may not think that Devon smith is worth a first rounder, but do you think GWS thinks he is worth one?
Don’t wake the sleeping giant: Hawthorn's potential off-season moves
I agree, but I’m assuming Hawthorn would need to include a future first rounder
Don’t wake the sleeping giant: Hawthorn's potential off-season moves
I agree, they don’t have the same assets as previous years. But i would say they still have a few trade options in terms of players (obviously not draft picks). I do also think that Clarkson is definitely one to plan some moves and it wouldn’t surprise me. Granted, since I wrote this a few days ago he has come out and said they won’t be pursuing Jake Stringer.
Don’t wake the sleeping giant: Hawthorn's potential off-season moves
Thankyou very much!
How good was it?! Walters is one of the best players in the league to watch hands down.
Eight of the best: Stand-out individual performances in 2017
Great addition to the list. One of the best debuts I’ve ever seen!
Eight of the best: Stand-out individual performances in 2017
I think he could potentially still poll well, in the high teens or early 20’s zone, hence why I think he deserved an All Australian spot. But, I reckon Dusty is a lock and should poll around the mid-30’s range.
How North’s blueprint stole Rory Sloane’s Brownlow Medal
Agreed!
