It’s a funding issue at SR level that keeps us uncompetitive. From an elite performance perspective, it doesn’t matter how many grassroots you fix, players will continue to get picked off by either NRL or overseas unions. With both those elements expanding it will be almost impossible to saturate our pool so much that they have no effect. I don’t have the answers to solve funding but I don’t think cutting a team will help. Just need to keep grinding, keep improving and pray we see some results at SR and international level, and hopefully that will snowball in some more cash. Until we can gain parity in pay, we’ll always be swimming against the tide.

Wallabies depth chart: The list that dispels the myth Aussie rugby doesn’t have enough players

I’ve raised this I’m here before and been shut down haha. I would adopt an AFL style system for the three “expansion” clubs where they sign players in bunches starting at 18-22 according to age group, that way creating “premiership windows” when that group reaches 26-30 years old. NSW and QLD to get the pick of the litter from there pathways every year.

This would hurt my Brumbies but would ensure we have 3 relatively competitive teams every year

I think he’s said he hasn’t retired from Wallabies. It was the same week Mark N signed with the Roosters so got lost in the news cycle a bit

That was an exceptionally poor game by both teams even considering it was a trial. The kiwis will run over both this year.

I fear for these teams this season, looked like an under 15s run compared to the ACT/Fiji trial

Force edge Reds at Ballymore after Harry Potter double as fit-again Wallaby stars

Pretty rare to coach against the Lions

Exclusive: Wallabies to turn to Kiwi Schmidt as Eddie Jones' replacement

Harry Potter on one wing, Hagrid on the other, might be a nice combo

'One of very few players who on their day is undefendable': Force close in on former Wallabies wrecking ball

I hope we get to play them soon and absolutely bury them

Fiasco complete: Eddie Jones officially CONFIRMED as Japan coach

There’s many many things that can be done to improve the fan experience in the coming years. Basic fixes like:

1. Marketing, its been basically non existent outside SRs own social media channels.
2. Scheduling/stadia, the Brumbies should never be playing a game at GIO on a Saturday night if they’re expecting people to come, the Highlands should never have home games during uni holidays, the Reds should be playing all their home games at Ballymore except for the Tahs clash and the Tahs should be playing at Leichhardt or North Sydney apart from the Reds. The Saturday night fixture they have on free to air should always be an Aussie derby game and there’s plenty of other things they should be doing in that space.
3. Clearly the system in NZ is broken because the same team has won the comp 7 years running and they share the same resources as 4 other teams.
4. Junior registered players should be going to SR and premier club games for free
5. SR players should be mandated when possible to be promoting the game at premier club/schoolboy games
6. Lean into what makes the game unique not advertise watered down rugby league, we’ve all seen a cute try in the corner but how often is someone getting folded in a scrum on a highlights reel
7. Embrace the rich history of schoolboy rugby, by all means look to expand, but all we here is how the game needs to move away from the schools systems, soon there won’t be any schools left playing the game. AFL will happily take the space.
8. MARKETING! market the players, market the game! Target the pacific areas in Melbourne or the expat areas in Perth, or the posh areas in Canberra, create a sense of belonging. The base is being eroded
9. For God’s sake be transparent, we’re not idiots and can see through lies and half truths.

Anyway that’s a couple of easy fixes. I wouldn’t go bringing more teams in just yet. Aussies to go better this year but still lose out the Crusades and Chiefs come finals.

'Good relationship': RA boss plays down Jones' betrayal, welcomes Tests against Brave Blossoms

Whoever is appointed I’m hoping they’re not just “taken at their word” and actually have some idea about a fan experience should be

'Good relationship': RA boss plays down Jones' betrayal, welcomes Tests against Brave Blossoms

Ridiculous but not unbelievable they’ve only just decided to view SR through a fans lens… It’s the blind leading the blind out here

Nice to see Marika looks set to return to the Wallabies. So we only really need to find one winger from our five teams to replace Mark.

Jorgo
Toole
Wright
Patea
Maybe Suailii (after he actually proves the hype)

Plenty other options and emerging players. SR will bring forward a replacement.

At least now RA have 500k to throw at another player.

Done deal: Wallabies star signs with NRL powerhouse in brutal reality check for RA at start of 'golden decade'

Not sure if one winger counts as virtually the Wallaby backline Walla, but hope they go well

COMPLETE SRP 2024 squads: Rebels the big movers, Tahs build depth, Reds shore up front-row

Unfortunately Mirt at 12 it’s a choice between upside or sh*t.

Predicted Wallabies team in 2024: Eddie's outcasts back as halves, back-row battles heat up

Not many, but more than Paisami haha

Predicted Wallabies team in 2024: Eddie's outcasts back as halves, back-row battles heat up

I just don’t see many/any other Australian inside options. Foketi to replace him if the desire isn’t there

Predicted Wallabies team in 2024: Eddie's outcasts back as halves, back-row battles heat up

For me he has lots of upside and is still very young. Covers 10 and 12, Kellaway for cover 11, 13-15

Not many coaches get a Lions tour. I’d say that’s RAs biggest/only carrot if they wanted to go with someone established outside of Australia.

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

Yes these picks were more about who’s available than maybe who’s the best in the business. RA can’t afford to be paying out contracts. I’d love OGara.

I feel like a Lion’s tour is a pretty big carrot for a coach

Head coach Schmidt
Assistants: Mooar (attack), Thorn (line out), Palmer (scrum), Fisher (defence)
Consultants: Gits, Raiwalui

All available I think

Post super rugby/pre Lions 2025 bring the best performing out of Cron, McKeller, Larkham, Kiss, Coleman on a two year apprenticeship to take over in 2028

Non of what you just said is true lol

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

Is this a wind-up? Haha

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

I think it’s very important to have really strong SR head coaches. They’re almost more important than Wallabies coaches imo. The head Wallabies coach should be more manager/motivator that can communicate technical aspects via specialist assistant coaches. I also think the SR and Wallabies coaches should have shared ethos or something. I see the SR coaches as pseudo Wallabies assistant coaches. Imo anyway haha

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

They have plenty of caps for the Reds and don’t perform at SR level. Not sure why they would in internationals…
