Yes, Charles Davis in his Best of the Best book seems to have done a one time comparison..What i am calling for is something like that to be done on a ongoing basis, just like we keep adding number of runs and wickets. Not only individuals, the team’s progress should also be mapped continuously based on deeper data than just wins & losses

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

The idea is to compare the performance of the batting team against the prototypical team’s score..So, we should not bring in the quality of the batting team..just like in golf, the player’s ability does not impact the Par score..

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Yes, the quality of the bowling team is the primary input alongwith adjustments due to the pitch and conditions..quality of the bowling team is represented by their bowling averages..

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Thanks Mate..i will write to him and ask him to courier it to me in India

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Actually due to modern language requirements, batsman being male oriented, we are calling batters..check out Cricinfo’s message on this usage

😂 😂 😂

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Nothing is broke..the idea is to add more data to help us know our players better..it will be wonderful to know how good a batsman’s skill is that he scored above what the conditions would allow..

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Thank you..many of these statistics needs to be mainstreamed..when a batter walks in, a lot more of his skills represented by finer slices of performances needs to be shown to public..we can appreciate the finer abilities of certain batsmen by these slices..

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

I checked that his book is availble now in Australia only..will check if one of my mates can get it to me in India

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Will read that book

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Thank you sir for repsonding..Measuring bowlers is tough in this system as there are only 10 wickets..so i kept them out..for the formal tracking of statistics, i guess if a solidly built data says A > B we have to agree to that judgement..like you said sports means different things for different people..however, no harm in adding some more flavor to the stats to embelish our narratives

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Thanks Paul..we do have statistical techniques to arrive that set of factors which explain significant part of a performance..n harm collecting even heart rate etc and regress past data to see how material it was to the final outcome..Even if we have the best measures, we will continue to diss it and have our pub arguments ????????

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

Yes, i do know that Sunil fact..but, there are blind supporters who will not agree..if we have a Par score system, they will have known that 1971 WI team was not the same as the late 70s or 80s team

Cricket may need to adopt the par score system to measure the skill level of its Test batters

The expectations of India captains today is very high..Dhoni had the benefit of India not having a cup for couple of decades..so Virat is being measured against difficult standards..India is also not the best T20 team either..WI and England are the pace setters in this form of Cricket..

Virat Kohli's captaincy dilemma

Good points..Bowlers have saved the day for Virat..Batting has been top heavy..the middle order needs to be cleansed..

Virat Kohli should be a politician

I don’t know if it is used only in the sub continent..may be a lot more here as SENA represents a tough challenge for our players

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

Rohit has to back it up more..atleast he seems to now have a method that will fetch runs reliably abroad

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

Sorry for introducing an acronymn without its expansion..SENA is South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

Mayank will take his place..Mayank was slated to open with Rohit but got injured..

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

Rohit’s prowess in home tests were not much in doubt..His century in SENA is kind of his promise fulfilled

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

You will be further shocked to learn that Pujara averages low 20s and Rahane mid 20s in England despite three tours..they still get picked

Batting failures in England: India keeps doing the same thing and achieving the same result

SKY is the guy in the squad..Like you say, there are number of quality batters being held back by Pujara and Rahane..their stats are skewed in favor of certain countries or some period of time

Batting failures in England: India keeps doing the same thing and achieving the same result

My point is on the larger question of the team’s batting..if you keep playing this bunch irrespective of results, the bench will slowly dwindle..i can understand folks like Darren Lehman not ablecto get into a test team that had masters ahead of him..however in India, the bench is being wasted ahead of ordinary batsmen holding on to their reserved seats

Batting failures in England: India keeps doing the same thing and achieving the same result

Kohli looked much better in this innings until he got a really good ball from Robinson..

Batting failures in England: India keeps doing the same thing and achieving the same result

I agree..quite rationally both Pujara and Rahane should make way..India wont do it..from the presser, it seems like even Rahane will not go..so Kohli is expecting to do the same things and get different results
