Do you have any actual comments to counter Fionn?

Because from what I saw of the match not only did he run great lines, he ran a bit slower and straighter which drew the central defence in and gave 2nd and 3rd receivers a lot more space – not something we’ve seen from a pre-Europe Cooper.

But perhaps most notable was Quade’s leadership. The guy has always been a bit hit and miss in terms of temperament but has always had a sharp eye for on-field tactics which is what makes him such a good playmaker. If you look at him in the 2nd half and after the match, he is level headed and providing much needed on-field leadership.

Not the Quade everyone is waiting for, but certainly a notable performance.

The Super XV: Australian team of the week, Round 2

Excusing the ridiculousness of the ad itself, yes the blacks on the OLED TV really are a selling point because most TVs nowadays are LED backlit which washes out a black. It’s one of those things that you don’t actively notice but still makes a pretty big difference

Still doesn’t change the fact that
1) It’s a stupid thing to convince people of in an ad
2) There’s still mediocre TVs
3) Warner looks like he’s holding in a Renshaw-level retirement package

The worst celebrity endorsements in the history of Australian sport

I think this is a pretty bad precedent to set, and an unnecessary move. It’s hard to gauge the impact of a specialist keeper in such a short amount of time.

Plus, let’s not forget that averages are skewed by the state of the game. In the past several innings for Wade, he’s had no pressure to score – only to have a belt a couple of overs before we declare.

Could Peter Handscomb fix Australia's wicketkeeping woes?

I think the more valid concern (that people are ignoring for some reason) is playing spin rather than sending a spinner in.

The only player that’s reasonably comfortable playing spin bowling is Smith. And particularly the likes of Khawaja, Maddinson and Wade really struggle playing against the turn. The pitch deterioration in India is unreal, and the ability to turn and slide the ball is 80% of the reason behind India’s ridiculous home-game record.

Boxing Day will be a good test to see how we hold up…

Australia needs pace in India, not spin

Cooper has no physicality? Have you watched how much bloody ground he covers? He might miss a few tackles (still fewer than Foley), but his field position by far makes up for that.

Eleven changes made to Wallabies side - Godwin to debut, Pocock skipper

Don’t forget Slipper, who’s higher capped than most usual starters gets a decent amount of game time being a replacement prop.

True, but I’d not want to see him at Inside Centre, just seems like a waste. Although a Foley – Folau – Cooper could be pretty interesting.

Genia back, Mumm on the bench as Wallabies name team to play Scotland

This is pretty redundant. “Australia needs another greatest spinner ever”. Yeah, of course.

Australia needs another Warne

I think if we win the first 4, we’ll have a strong change of beating England. My worry is that we’ll still be green going in to the first game against Wales, and that will rattle us for the rest of the series. The Welsh game is going to make or break us, which is a worry given how rusty our backs have been, and that we don’t have Keravi (who has the running style that combats NH play).

I am 100% on the fence about Folau at 15 or 13. On the one hand I can see the benefit in leaving his unique fullback style there, but let’s not forget that this is Northern Hemisphere Rugby and his inability to kick could hurt us. It also forces Cooper to play defensive fullback as well as take the kicks (assuming I get my wish of Foley on the bench), which could tire him out.

What to look for in November as the Wallabies head north

I think our strongest chance is a combo of Cooper and Hodge at 10 and 12, respectively. The counter-attack down the middle will hopefully be combatted with Quade usually covering as defensive fullback for Folau, and defenders like Fardy and Coleman aren’t known for missing tackles. That being said, Phipps could be our downfall here, especially given his inability to box kick.

Our weakness would be on the wing, depending on player selection. Quade is rarely out of position, which should help, but we all know his tackling ability (and Folau’s) leaves much to be desired. It’s also likely that we’ll have green players on the wing; DHP is a solid tackler, but can drift out of position often.

Wales have a chance to beat the Wallabies

I completely agree. You don’t get points just for being a flyhalf, especialyl when Quade gets chastised for every tiny mistake. He was mediocre at best, and his poor defense let in the first two tries (missed 3 tackles on the first try, and didn’t cover as defensive fullback for Folau which is something Quade has the pace and stamina to do)
