Edwards is great player but i reckon you could put 8 fullbacks in the competition in the Penrith team and they would still be the machine that they are. But if you take out Cleary…. or you take out Yeo,,,, and next year you take out Fisher-Harris….. These guys will be much harder to replace

MVP Dylan Edwards is the man Penrith's system might not be able to cover

Yer Mam definitely is in the calculations. Slater has mentioned it.

Maroons' Origin predicted team: Slater forced to make changes after injuries sideline some certain selections

I agree with Nanai. I am a Cowboys fan but he wouldnt be in my starting team. I think he would be a good bench option though. Although Cotter is super fit I think he has more of an impact off the bench in an Origin game. I would love to see a bench of Grant, Cotter, Hopgood and Nanai running at some tired NSW forwards

Yes this is a great article and the roar could highlight this article again this week as very relevant

NRL Round 7 Talking Points: With big wins come big losses, and which coach is the game’s biggest sook?

Yer i reckon 1 team doesnt rely on 1 player as much as Newcastle relies on Ponga. Not much attack without him. Trbojevic for Manly and Tino for the Titans carry their teams too but i would say Newcastle are not much chance for the 8 now without Ponga.

NRL Round 8 Team Lists Late Mail: Injury causes Dragons reshuffle, Cleary back, Broncos' mixed news, Eels blood new half

Walsh, Ponga, Hammer, Brimson, Munster, Holmes, Cobbo, Savage i reckon would be the order. Savage would have to improve his defence a lot and I think they would go with Holmes, Munster and Cobbo before him if a ridiculous amount of injuries happened to QLD

NRL Round 8 Team Lists Late Mail: Injury causes Dragons reshuffle, Cleary back, Broncos' mixed news, Eels blood new half

Why would you move Ponga to the centres permanently?

Not sure what they do with Taumololo. On a million a year and barely getting any minutes. They have to look at trading him or medically retiring as I cant see any other option

Sizzling Sharks show they're the real deal with savage attack but question marks linger for misfiring Cowboys

Yer Payton sacked his 2 captains with new ones for this year so can make the tough decisions

Sizzling Sharks show they're the real deal with savage attack but question marks linger for misfiring Cowboys

Some good talking points here. I would put the Cowboys in the bad column though. They were really bad and if they dont have a bounce back against the premiers this week….
I know most clubs auction off their ANZAC jerseys to charities but if the NRL is making money from those jerseys that is really poor.
I think Robinson is in the best form in the Whingers Olympics but Ricky Stuart is still favourite for the gold medal. He has years of top shelf performances all around the country.
Gee the Titans have been dissapointing. Score 30 points and lose a game. Their defence hasnt improved at all under Des and yes Fifita may be an option at lock

NRL Round 7 Talking Points: With big wins come big losses, and which coach is the game’s biggest sook?

Great first article Maso. Thanks. And good luck to you on the roar site.
As a QLD tragic my 1st pick would be Jurbo. Then Murray 2nd. And captain. Yeo unlucky to be on the bench. You have some real competitors in your team which i dont like 😂
And like a lot here have said, you need a utility. Lots of injuries in origin. Wighton would be an ideal utility but then who would play 5/8. I reckon McInnes would of played a lot of origins if he was a QLD player too.

'Attitude and loyalty surpass strength and speed': The Blues need to 'out-Queensland' the Maroons to have Origin success

Yer thats what i dont get from keeping Townsend at halfback. Everything you mentioned above.
I dont think Clifford is the greatest halfback but he would be the same/better than Townsend with a much higher chance to improve as he is 8 years younger than Chad.
In saying that i havent seen any QLD cup games so no idea how Clifford is going

Contenders or ...? Cowboys shoot to top of the ladder but need to claim big scalp to prove title credentials

Yer Webcke and Lazarus had a couple of seasons playing together. Webcke made the Origin team the year Lazurus started playing for Melbourne so it wasnt peak Webcke when they were playing together.
Yes Lazarus was a freak! But what Haas has done at his age already if he stays injury free he could be the greatest I have seen. And I really dont like the broncos 😂

The NRL stat that isn't one, but should be: Working out which forwards really pull their weight

Yer plenty of egos in that 2016 side: Fifita, Ennis, Barba, Maloney, Gallen…
Shows the coach is a good man manager

'Complete performance' sees Dragons stun Warriors - and Lomax rocket into Origin contention

Yer I agree that Townsend is not one of the biggest issues. There are a few issues that i would have before him. Definitely errors and defence like you mentioned. And like Payten mentioned, I think they are playing at about 70% of their potential so lots to improve on

But this article was about the Cowboys being title contenders. Townsend is very serviceable and seems like a good bloke who gives his all. But i dont think they will be title contenders with Townsend at halfback. It puts too much pressure on Drinkwater and Dearden in attack. I really hope I am wrong though and the Cowboys become title contenders with him at halfback

Contenders or ...? Cowboys shoot to top of the ladder but need to claim big scalp to prove title credentials

Payten is a smart coach. I agree the Cowboys are playing at 70%. Will be interesting to see how they go this weekend.
Drinkwater is nowhere near an Origin spot. His defence is very ordinary and his positioning not great. He wouldn’t be in the top 10 fullbacks atm but he looks great in attack and can do freakish things so the media loves him. Hopefully he improves his defence/positioning a lot.
Really need a halfback in my opinion. They rely on Drinkwater too much in attack. Townsend best years were years ago. I am hoping Clifford gets a run soon.
Not sure what they will do with Taumololo. Showed glimpses of his best last week. But at his price that is nowhere good enough. Mclean is still going well though. Cotter not having his best year but improving. Finefeuiaki is an outstanding talent and hoping the cowboys can keep him but someone will throw a bucketload of money at him.
As good a servant that Taumololo has been i would be happy to let him go to keep Finefeuiaki at the club. Finefeuiaki , Luki, Cotter, Neame, Robson, Nanai is an excellent young forward pack that could give the premiership a shake in a few years with a quality halfback

Contenders or ...? Cowboys shoot to top of the ladder but need to claim big scalp to prove title credentials

Lynagh the pick of Oz 10’s at the moment? I rate him but he wouldnt be in the top 3. Give him another couple of years in super rugby. He is only a 20 yr old so lots to learn

'Like a Scud missile': World Cup reject leads rout, but Reds suffer fresh blow with Petaia's season in jeopardy

I didnt think Kalani Thomas had that great of a game. There were a lot of passes high, low and behind players. Really noticeable when the reserve half game on. Pasami was the standout. Lynagh played well. Well composed. The forwards as a unit played well

'Like a Scud missile': World Cup reject leads rout, but Reds suffer fresh blow with Petaia's season in jeopardy

Yer they are great to watch those two forwards. Like a well oiled machine. Would you rate them better than peak Lazarus and young Webcke? Or early 2000’s broncos with Civoniceva and Webcke? Its a totally different game now so hard to compare but I wouldnt put the panthers duo above those 2 combinations though

The NRL stat that isn't one, but should be: Working out which forwards really pull their weight

Hahahaha yes of course its relevant. We are talking about the hardest working forwards here though. If your halfback puts you thru a gap and you make 50 meters, that’s not the same as making 5 tough carries off your line

The NRL stat that isn't one, but should be: Working out which forwards really pull their weight

Yes i thought this would be the obvious one. If you are trying to work out the hardest working forwards, you would count the number of runs and number of tackles. Metres gained is not relevant.
You would probably rate tackles 50% of runs on the scale to make it more even

The NRL stat that isn't one, but should be: Working out which forwards really pull their weight

Drinkwater comes to mind in this case

The NRL stat that isn't one, but should be: Working out which forwards really pull their weight

Hahahahaha I am still getting over losing the Hammer too. Drinkwater couldnt play in the centres like the Hammer does for QLD too.
I am still getting over Ponga……

Wild idea but Blues should actually pick Origin team on form this time around - and that means Tedesco’s time is up

Hahahava yer tough crowd. Another Cowboy fan here. Drinkkwater has been outstanding in attack this year. Try assists etc.
Problem is his defence is .dreadful. And positioning not great. Shouldn’t be talked about in State of Origin until he improves his defence a lot. I actually think Townsend is still getting a run because of Drinkwaters attack is so good as Townsends isn’t.

Gee whiz!!!! Jake Trbojevic getting a nomination for the most over rated player in the game is the strangest thing i have read on this site for a while

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?
