Steve Smith has been one of Australia’s best all time batsman. He has had an exceptional career in test cricket. Outstanding player!!
But as the author states, “It’s plain to see that Smith is not suited to T20 cricket, rarely has he been throughout his illustrious career and he’s in the side by trading on his reputation in the longer format”
If he gets picked in the 20/20 world cup team then i think we need new selectors.

You forgot about Mitch Marsh. Outstanding test batting average of 27 after 35 tests. He bowls occasionally too.

Another amazing performance by Maxwell. He is in some rare form. Shocking last over though bowling. Exceptional bowling by Behrendorff. It was the 1st time i have seen Hardie bowl for Australia and it was horrible stuff. Hopefully he is a lot better bowler than this. Stoinis stalled the innings when we needed quick runs. Surprises me how he makes the team actually.

At the same time of their careers……..Comparing the younger highly talented players (Langer, Hayden, Steve Waugh, and Steve Smith) with excellent 1st class records with the older guys and average players (Harris, Renshaw and Bancroft) with average 1st class records is like comparing apples with fish

“Greg Blewett would be good. He never quite got a full run”
I am not sure if your memory is fading as Greg Blewett played 46 test matches for a pretty poor average of 34. He got a very good run. Blewett himself has said that he under performed for Australia and was lucky to play a lot during a strong time in Aus cricket. He got dropped from SA when he was underperforming too.
You might be thinking of Stuart Law and Martin Love who never got a full run… Do you remember them?

Renshaw rarely opens??? This comment shows that Don doesn’t follow the domestic competition at all. Like he always says he does. If he did follow he would know that Renshaw has opened every game this year. And last year. I am now thinking with Don’s many ridiculous comments on this site, he is just on the roar to be a troll and annoy people.

i think that if the glass was 99% full, you would be complaining that there is 1% missing.
Mcdonald has an outstanding coaches record. In different formats and countries.
Maybe McDonald saw the Mitchell Marsh error where he was picked years before he was good enough to be a test player. So he is in no rush with the WA allrounders

How good was Maxwell! Had the best batting strike rate of the Aussies. And the best bowling economy rate. Excellent in the field. Dont think he could of done much more. Outstanding effort!!!

Don, I respect some of your comments. Apart from the obvious WA rose coloured glasses comments. But you are embarrassing yourself here. Every cricket commentator/journalist i have seen has praised Cummins performance in this game. His bowl first, mass bowling changes, field placements etc were very good. IF he was from WA would you feel different about him? Everyone has praised his performance. Except you. So now i will scroll past your comments because i know you are biased

Targa you can’t compare 2007 team to 1999. 2007 was a great team but wouldn’t make the semifinals if this was a competition. 1999 Aussie team would be the bookie’s favorites just over the west indies/pakistan or 2003 Aussies

I am not sure about that Don.
We all know that if the Australian team had 11 players from Western Australia we would win the world cup. It would probably be one of the best teams in history. Comparable to Bradmans Invincibles and the West Indies of the 80’s.
But this team only have a few players from Western Australia. Without those Western Australians we need to perform really well and hope South Africa and India not to perform to there best ability to win. They have stronger squads unfortunately. We need more Western Australians in the squad ????

It comes down to 1 game. India vs Australia or South Africa. The pressure on India will be immense. Apart from getting into some form, the previous games are meaningless in the world cup final.

I have always like Matthew Wade. Great player! But even he thought his international career was offer. I have absolutely no idea what the benefit of this selection is. It’s just an awful decision by the selectors!

Hahaha i am calm ???? It’s just disrespectful comments that’s all. The Dutch who surprisingly don’t have any Danish pub players in it beat South Africa the other day. They kept West Indies and Ireland out of the world cup. But you could rustle up 11 players at your christmas lunch to give them a run. You and your family may have 11 top grade cricketers but you comments suggest otherwise

Wow! That was an absolute demolition. Maxwells innings was extraordinary! It doesn’t matter the opposition those types of innings are very very rare. Congratulations to him. That result will give the team a huge boost of confidence for the NZ/England games. And hopefully finals.

Poor take this. The game is growing in many countries across the world. Except Australia. But we are just 1 country. With competent administration and restructure the game could grow here too
