Quite like Cust – had wraps on him coming through juniors and he impressed me a couple of times when I saw him play.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 13

A win is a win, you’re right. Can only play what’s in front of you, and today was the starting point – had to get over Canterbury and play well out of the bye with Norman back.

They did that, so I’ll take it.

I’d be quite happy for Chad to be given a sky blue jumper. Jut does the job every single game.

I don’t know of anyone who wants to watch Pearce-o run around in that arena again Con! Stop framing me.

Who would a thunk it? Channel 9 putting Canberra vs Cronulla on a Thursday night. Has the world gone mad?

I get you weren’t happy with my comments about the Sharkies Rene, and absolutely fair enough. As I said, quite happy to own up to a bad call, even if it was looking like a semi-decent one for a bit there.

Still a long way to go, but the Sharkies are starting to click into gear and the return of Graham if he keeps playing like that takes you to the next level.

Did I ever write Newy off? Didn’t think I wrote them off so much as said they really need to start winning in a hurry.

And yeah – happy, but we still have a mountain to prove.

Look, I’m happy to come to the party and say I have some egg on my face, but that’s bound to happen when you put it all on the line before the season starts. I’ve always been happy to own up when I make a call and it turns out to be way off the mark.

I’m looking forward to that game Geoff… Should be a cracker to call.

I know what you mean – makes it hard.

The Titans are an interesting one. They looked a better side I think because there was clarity there. It was Roberts’ footy side. No questions asked. Think the return of Peats helped as well.

And yeah, probably for a while.

Fair Emcie,

I’ve written about the protection of halves previously. It’s becoming a real concern and I’m not sure how best to address it anymore. Harsher penalties don’t seem to be working.

Maybe. Not going to happen though.

Imagine getting things wrong before a ball was kicked. They are running into form, and good on ’em.

The point being today though that Wade Graham is back and he is great. The Sharks have survived without him and now can try to flourish with him. Also, their bench has impressed me a lot more than I thought it was, Jack Williams and Braden Hamlin-Uele in particular.

None of that is to say the Sharks are without issue moving forward though. Still behind the big guns.

A brilliant read on a truly shocking event Geoff.

A billion people watched the Cricket World Cup opening party? For cricket's dignity, let's hope not

But rating someone a five who played eight minutes?

I get there is probably no correct answer Mushi…

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

I’d assume so… Baz?

The Roar's NRL expert tips and predictions: Round 13

I thought Ofahengaue played a really good game. Queensland lost something when he went off with that cut to the leg.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

Harsh to call him lazy – 53 tackles… He is used to defending on the edge making maybe 20, tops. Put him in the most intense environment league has to offer and ask an extra 30 tackles? Yeah, reckon most players would be walking around.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

Yeah, I’m seeing a lot of comments about Gillett.

Thought Napa was good and very aggressive.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

Yep…

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

I thought Chambers was excellent during the second half, but that’s me.

Gillett, I’m seeing a lot saying I was wrong, so I’ll cop that one.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

Probably fair re DCE and Arrow.

I didn’t really rate Gillett’s performance, but I can cop getting it wrong if that’s the general consensus.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

It’s not neccesarily a negative impact, just no impact really.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

It’s more that everyone needs a mark for the overall total. It’s not that he was poor in his eight minutes, just that he didn’t play long enough to go higher.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

Cheers DPS,

Hunt definitely wasn’t an 8. He was serviceable most of the night, and strong in defence.

Anyone rating Kaufusi lower than about an 8 didn’t watch the game.

Queensland Maroons player ratings: Game 1

Mitchell looked like he wanted to be anywhere else. Really stuffed Addo-Carr around I felt.

New South Wales Blues player ratings: Game 1

Haas gave away a really crucial penalty which reversed the momentum, but you might be right. He did his job. Very solid.

New South Wales Blues player ratings: Game 1

Cheers BA,

True regarding Tedesco, but yep, Walker and Mitchell in particular were poor.

Blues bench management was rubbish. Felt like I was watching the Dragons all over again.
