As I said, risk vs reward. Risk far too great this time.

If Matt Dufty is the future, then why is Jarryd Hayne the answer?

The assumption is born from the idea that Dufty is on the outer. I wouldn’t mind Hayne on the wing, especially with the loss of McDonald, but that doesn’t appear to be the way it’s going down.

Why?

Thanks.

You may not be far off the money, but more than that, I think Mary has a problem trusting youngsters. It was clear last year that someone like Jai Field should have been thrown in at different points. Reece Robson should have had more time on the bench and maybe a first grade game or two as well to give McInnes a rest as well. All little signs, but when you consider how long it took for Dufty to get a crack in first grade as well, it all starts to make sense and add up.

Pending the Klemmer signature, I’ve got the Knights sitting right around the edge of the top eight next year. I guess, once I start writing a preview series I’ll get a better idea of where I think they are going to end up, but gut feel is eighth or ninth.

The true extent of Knights' rebuild revealed

Hi all,

Apologies from The Roar’s editorial team. There was a slight technical glitch – comments are now open on this article!

Wallabies must be be aware of the elephant in the Padua room

Hey SM,

We understand it’s not the greatest thing they weren’t published, but things got very busy in that time period for the editorial team and unfortunately, it was a bit of an oversight.

It’s our intention this won’t happen again.

Apologies for the inconvenience of not having them published though as we know people enjoy being able to read them.

Melbourne Cup 2018: Preview and top tips

It’s got to be one of the greatest moments in Australian sport history, hasn’t it? I purposely go looking for the replay on occasion and it gives me the same feeling every single time. His effort up the Galibier to pull back the Schleck boys is the other moment of that Tour which was just unbelievable – shows the character of Cadel a ride like that.

Right you are. Not sure where I got 91 and 95 from.

Well, I’m not among the chorus asking for bans to be reduced, so going to say… no, absolutely not? Even then, doing what Lance did against say, what Smith and Warner did, is in a completely different league…

But I suppose that’s a better question for others.

I doubt he was – Le Mond and Armstrong were pretty close in terms of years they won the WC – 91 and 95 I think it was…

And yeah – fair call on terminology. Whatever the case, we can all agree that 2002 Giro stage wasn’t good!

Great article Paul. Very enjoyable read.

After 137 years, the Wanderers ‘return’ to the Sydney Cricket Ground

Cheers Souvalis,

The order of this top ten has swapped around plenty since I started putting this series together, so yes, call them in to fight it out.

Jai Arrow. Good point. He probably should have been here somewhere.

It’s interesting Re DCE. He had such a huge role to play this year – hence being No.9 pre-season. But he failed at every turn. Wasn’t helped by Manly’s poor showing, but he had a poor season.

Yeah absolutely Emcie, bit of a weird year almost.

If you do this list again before or after 2019 with an emphasis on either the important players for next year or the form from 2019, I suspect Manu is on there somewhere.

Well, this is quite the debate. Look, maybe ten is too high for Surgess, but I wouldn’t have been putting him much lower.

Thanks Ja Ja,

And no, you can’t pick everyone. I think they are definitely the 4 + Frizell who’d be the next 5. As we discovered when I did this pre-season… You leave out a lot of good players like it or not. Even more challenging at the end of the season without a great number of standout players.
