"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that"(Bill Shankly). Sport and life are intrinsically connected and bind people together in a unique way.

If Manchester United’s standard is Europa League than that is a massive fall from grace. Last year in the Champions League we were completely outclassed and yes I admit finishing 2nd under Mourinho in 2017/18 was a seemingly positive step forward we were way off Manchester City. United’s standards should be to win the Champions League and Premier League and to be honest this is further away than ever. You cannot argue that United’s standards have dipped the last few years and what used to be considered an underachievement is now accepted , not good enough.
The Red Devils are a rabble
This article is not just looking at the start of this campaign but the poor decisions that have been made from the hierarchy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. The club has spent a huge amount of money and to be honest most of these signings have not justified their huge price-tag. There has been no thoughtful process or plan in regards to the running of the club which is still waiting on a football director to be employed. I am in fact a passionate United fan and certainly know my football club but the current situation is not a healthy one. I hope the club can turn it around but we are so far off the elite clubs in England and Europe right now.
The Red Devils are a rabble
Hi Alexgibb, in regards to Sarri’s style I would suggest the main weaknesses of the formation is the intensity it must be played at and also the defensive holes it can leave open for teams to counterattack especially with both fullbacks pushing quite high. In regards to the the weekend I believe Manchester United pressed higher and were more aggressive which affected the way Chelsea were able to play through the lines. I do believe as high risk as Sarri’s formation can also be devastating to opposition teams as they look to dominate the ball.

I agree that the Olympics has the power to bring together people from all different backgrounds and this should be celebrated. In the same breath though platforms such as the Olympics should and can be used to raise awareness around social and political issues. Athletes that feel strongly about issues, should be encouraged to show their support as long as it is done in a peaceful manner. Why would you not use such a powerful platform to help raise awareness?, this is not something new when it comes to global sporting events and can help create healthy conversation.
