Yeah mate, absolutely. New Zealand had a few fast bowlers that were injury-prone back then.

Seven memorable spells from former Kiwi pace ace Shane Bond

Yeah that time the Kiwi attack wasn’t as strong as it is now. it would have been interesting to see him bowl with the likes of Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Kyle Jamieson, and Lockie Ferguson.

True mate. After that 2-year injury lay-off after the 2003 World Cup, apparently a doctor/physio – well, one of them- told him that if he wanted to prolong his career, he had to cut back on his pace, but Bond always wanted to bowl express pace.

Truly is mate.

Thanks Riccardo. It’s good to hear from you mate. Man, if only he didn’t get injured. People still rate him as our best fast bowler since Hadlee, and rightly so. True about him being apart of the coaching staff. He did really well with the boys, and was a big factor in improving our pace bowling attack stocks. Boult, Southee, Wagner, Henry, the lot did well under his guidance. When he lef, the bowling attack lost a bit of its bite. The Mascheranas tenure didn’t fair too well, but Shane Jurgensen has done a really good job with the guys since he has taken over as the bowling coach.

He was one hell of a bowler mate.

Hey Targa. Thank you so much for the feedback, and apologies for the extremely late reply. Yeah, I remember that series. New Zealand back then were a different team with Bond around. It was so unfortunate that he did not play more Tests for New Zealand. From memory, New Zealand were also in good position to win the final test of that series, but rain played the spoilsport.

Thanks for that buddy.

Ten classic innings from the past decade, Part 1

“India looked like favourites to win their first Test Series in the SENA – South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia – nations since 2009, which was also against New Zealand.” – There were two errors made in the article. It is meant to read as follows:
India looked like favourites to win their first Test match in the SENA -South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia – nations since 2010, when they beat South Africa in the 2nd Test of the 2010-11 Test series.

It was pretty close mate. Close match, and a wonderful innings from Warner on an extremely difficult pitch.

Ten classic innings from the past decade, Part 1

Bowden was quite an ordinary umpire at times. I remember he got demoted from the elite ICC umpiring panel a couple of years ago. As for Laxman, he was a quality batsman. Performed particularly well against Australia and he loved playing in a Australia.

Thanks mate. Yeah absolutely. That innings from KP changed the course of that series. That England team and the South African team during 2010-12 were the best teams in the world at that period of time. They had the best pace attacks in the world at that stage and some awesome batsman. As for some of Kevin Pietersen’s greatest innings, I was tempted to put KPs tons against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka or against South Africa in 2012. The latter was brilliant as he absolutely hammered the best attack in the world at the time in Steyn, Morkel and Philander. He particularly dominated Steyn was brilliant.

Absolutely true Paul. Both sides batting have been areas of concern for a while. South Africa are struggling to deal with the retirements of some brilliant players. Archer needs to perform otherwise I reckon England might go with Mark Wood for the Test series. Wood is injury-prone but he seems to be improving with time. He bowled an brilliantly in the first innings of the Third Test of the West Indies series. It should be an interesting series. I do think South Africa might just pop England and Rabada will have a good return to form in this particular series.

England-South Africa Test series preview

Will Somerville and Ajaz Patel would have been much better options in Australia than Santner. Especially Somerville. Sommerville would have been a better option considering he has 4 years of experience in the Australian domestic scene playing for the Blues.

Australia-New Zealand Boxing Day Test Preview

The problem was they selected the Squad before the England series. Santner is a much better limited overs spinner than he is a Test match spinner. He has never picked up more than 3 wickets in a Test innings. The Blackcaps should have selected their squad closer to the beginning of the Australia tour. There a couple of better spinners than Santner in the longer format back in the New Zealand domestic circuit.

I think that was a mistake. Should have batted first on this deck.

Oh well.

Cheers mate. I really appreciate it.

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

The most accurate statement I have read in a while.

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

True Carlin. Loved both the 2001 Test series and the Hobart Test in 2011. The 2001 series was a big series in my journey as a cricket fan. The Test series against South Africa that summer was one-sided. Australia were going through a really rough phase in 2011. They lost the Ashes early in the year & they collapsed against South Africa in South Africa and New Zealand in Hobart. Carlin do you remember the 2001-02 tri-series between New Zealand, Australia and South Africa? To me that was the one of the best ODI tri-series of all-time.

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

Clairie Grimmett, Brendon Julian?? Bj probably isn’t a Test great but he was born in Hamilton, New Zealand

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

DaveJ I think it’s the pitches in New Zealand and the cricket culture as well. Spinners aren’t really encouraged in New Zealand as much as pacers. Vettori did quite well considering he had to play most of his cricket on pitches that weren’t that helpful to spinners. In regards to the current Test squad, I think we made a mistake not selecting Will Sommerville or Ajaz Patel. Yes, Santner is a handy player but he isn’t a Test player. He is more of a limited overs player than a a Test player.

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

Hey Paul. Yeah it’s great to hear from you too mate. Thanks for the support mate. Paul, Glenn Turrner was an awesome player. He is one of our best opening batsman ever and I think he was the leading run-scorer in 1975 or 1979 World Cup in England. I think his wife was the Mayor of Dunedin or something like that. Turner did coach New Zealand during the mid-1990s but had issues with players. Most players didn’t like his catching style apparently and in particular, Adam Parore and Chris Cairns had issues with Glenn Turner’s coaching. As a player he was awesome. Averaging mid-40s in both Tests and ODIs is a sign of a quality player. Unfortunately his coaching didn’t fair too well. A NZ great though nonetheless.

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

Great to watch but I wouldn’t put it in a list of Top 10 classic moments between Australia and New Zealand in Test series. I would put Ross Taylor’s double at the WACA, Perth in 2015-16 ahead of BMac’s fastest ton. Especially, when you consider the fact that Taylor had an eye issue and not long after that innings he had eye surgery.

Ten classic Australia versus New Zealand Test moments

It isn’t any particular order Brendon.
