yes..and I can see why anyone connected in some way shouldnt comment but I fail to see why us readers cannot express our opinion.

OK some misguided people dont agree but step back and look at it logically. Are the same teams involved in the finals series as the premiership? NO!! Are the same rules in place? In key aspects NO!! eg is it all home and away? do all teams play all teams twice? NO.
And ask fans..who do they regard higher – the premiers or the champions? The premiership is season long based on results, the finals is a knockout competition. Im happy that any decent survey will show we rate the premiers higher. In many years the best team has NOT won the Grand Final..in fact sometimes the best team on the day hasnt won 😊 . The Premiership is either stage 1 of a 2 stage ‘competition’ (if that suits you) – still makes it separate – OR a qualifying tournament.
“If it was a “separate competition” then nobody will go. This was tried in the old NSL and that’s exactly what happened, sweet fa attendance.” This is nonsensical as Im not proposing to change any format . It is what it is. I love finals football BECAUSE teams can create a different result eg a GF between Sydney and Victory (not my wish!) than happened during the year. The reason it works is that its a linked competition.
“The champion team is what matters in Australia, always has. Winning the premiership may mean a team is the most consistent but it is NOT the champion team.” Both right and wrong in two sentences..amazing! The Champion team is NOT what matters to true SOCCER fans. As I said earlier Im happy to say the Finals series is loved BUT the premiers are rated higher than the champions. As repeated ad infinitum we love knockout football and we garner more media attention with more hype. I also believe we pay more attention but thats only natural as theres more to lose in a knockout comp.
You are conflating two things.. other sports v soccer. Australian tradition has finals, no problem, AND Id agree that probably (I have no idea tho) those other sports play all year for the championship. They would naturally rate the Champions higher. HOWEVER soccer has a long overseas based TRADITION where its the premiership that matters. I offer that the ACLE spot/s go to the Premiers as proof.
“Please stop trying to change yet another tradition only because it works that way overseas. I’m so sick of this argument.” I would argue that it is you trying to change yet another tradition btw tradition is not always good, traditionally we didnt allow women to vote for starters. Because you are sick of this argument doesnt make it any less true.

Sydney FC do not deserve to be in A-League Grand Final, yet still have a chance - and that should worry Mariners

“that ousts a team more deserving of an appearance in the season finale.” this line of thought bothers me and is a load of nonsense.

We all agree the Finals series is in effect a separate competition. CCM are deserved Premiers and our best team/club with Phoenix worthy runners up as the next team – Sydney is runners up as best club I believe ! 😁 Thus the worthy Grand Finalists are the qualifying teams which perform the best in the finals series. To date both Victory AND Sydney are contenders.

Stuart has issues with Sydney so hardly a fan

None of the best defences either !! no Mclean a travesty.. and the keeper voted the best miseed out. I disagree re Kyah tho ..she was CCM’s most dangerous player.

Kisnorbo goes from French farce to All Stars comeback

I think its as simple as Ch10 will only broadcast 1 game per day…ie the saturday afternoon game is never telecast ps its not a NZ issue as LigA is shown only on sky usually but I wouldnt be surprised if the Nix game is on prime/tvnz.
edit..not currently on TVNZ and I guess unlikely. Probably not an issue in NZ as sky is like the old foxtel..most sport fans have it as they get almost all sports on it. ps plus the pubs will have it !

Theres always the rugby method ..10 minutes in the bin unless its a red which is 20mins and the player cant return.

” the long sliding tackle” this seems banned under the current rules eg Rodwells tackle.

Now that an issue Im very concerned on !! 😡 ridiculous sending back people trained in OZ to be criminals to NZ because they have some faint connection with NZ. This has caused plenty of crime in NZ …. I was surprised to learn it was a USA thing! A story where a person who went to the USA as 2 yr old was deported to Tonga? Anyhow this aint a politics site.

BTW Im a citizen not a visa holder so you cant deport me! 😁

BTW I have been informed of an issue re saturdays games. The Nix/Victory is only on paramount ie behind a paywall. That renders occasional fans with watching problems. Its hard to get it on pubs for starters!!
And also Im a little concerned as para’s streaming issues seem to have got worse atm. I briefly tried watching the AFC Champions league game and like many others got a 404 error and gave up.

See Jared Gillett. I wasnt a fan and thought the EPL was too much BUT his recent games show he is now a decent ref. Maybe we should send our refs to the EPL to learn!!

I think theyre giving up over a million dollars to host in Gosford – can we afford that??? I say not really. Plus the biggest issue will be getting a ticket for those of us not CCM/Nix fans OR corporate.

thank god we/they didnt!! 😊

I’m torn on this one. As an expat I love the thought of a GF in NZ but until recently I always presumed a GF was in Australia. Personally I still think a preset GF venue is the way to go but all the babies throwing their toys out the cot put an end to that. This has I believed forced the APL’s hand so they have to give it to the Nix.

But I agree that its an Oz comp so logically the GF sb in Oz. The flying is the biggest issue which will ensure it will be a NZ dominated stadium. And yes I flew to Perth for a GF but thats still easier and cheaper!

Whilst the idea is great and good for Gosford Im not a fan of the reduced size. Apart from giving me a probable overnight trip if I go 😛 the issue would be obtaining a ticket as obstensibly a neutral even tho Id be supprting the Nix. If you take out a large chunk for corporates you have maybe 15k CCM tickets and 2-3k Nix (my sisters are planning to come for starters) where do the rest of us fit??? 😡

NZ isnt as rich as Australia so the two biggest sports – rugby and cricket – often share bigger grounds hence their non-rectangular nature.

I agree with all that but with all this rain we’ve been getting we need the pitch covered too..or expensive underground heating/drainage !!

“what he has got against Burgess as a fresher player” I concur. At the time I thought Hollman shouldve come off as Burgess was much fresher. I put it down to the shape he wanted to play. Of course Hollman then gets a second yellow – albeit undeserved.

Actually I disagree ..the goalie can move UNTIL the kicker steps up and you’ll notice Redmayne stopped when he did that.
“When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line.’
