I was going to stop watching at half time, but I had a sick feeling something like this was going to happen. The referees were absolutely terrible and allowed it to be a physical, chippy game from the get go, and I knew that both teams were frustrated by the continual no calls. And when their coach asked them to be more physical I was worried.
For Daniel Kickert to be the one to flatten someone shows how frustrated the players were, as he is certainly not known for being a hit man! Ultimately, his forearm to the head on the opposition player was the proverbial match to the powderkeg and he deserves to be punished. Not sure how they will punish the acts that happened after the elbow though.

Australia aren't guilt-free, but FIBA should throw the Philippines out

When I saw the news I knew I had to pop in and see what you had to say Ryan! Interesting times ahead with Randle’s release and Rondo/Stephenson also on board, it should be interesting.

And Boogie, wow. Not due back until the new year, but interesting signing by the Warriors.

The King comes to Hollywood

Pretty simple as to why they merged, the infamous “criteria”. If Wests didn’t merge they were out anyway, and Balmain just scraped in but needed cash.

Wests Tigers shouldn't be in the NRL

Yep, save themselves 800k this year TB

Is Ben Barba hard done by?

True, must be tough for Tom Garlepp. Was one of the main guys last year, but relegated to scrub minutes this year.

How can the irrepressible Sydney Kings be stopped?

Whittington has been really impressive for mine. Its not so much his statline, but what he brings defensively. He’s quick enough and has those long arms that allow him to trap and pressure, plus he seems to make the right choice defending pick and rolls, and also helps and blocks/pressure shots. That he has been sticking some 3 pointers has also been a bonus.

How can the irrepressible Sydney Kings be stopped?

When does it become public though?
Do you know what the initials on Luke Lewis, Chris Lawrence or Alex Glenn’s wristbands mean?

The truth may hurt, Andrew Fifita, but you need to hear it

Matt, it could have been very easy for him to deny the whole thing and say it meant “Fried Kentucky Leg”, but he didn’t, and there is a level of accountability there at least. I expect you now to do an audit of what every player writes on their wristbands to make sure its is not offensive, untoward or offensive. Fact remains that it was the media who publicised the allegation (later, fact). If not for that, then the Kelly family would not have to see their names emblazoned in the headlines again.
Is Fifita a poorly educated athlete who hasn’t been told “no” too many times from a low socio-economic and racial background? Yes, he is, and he has shown he makes bad choices and (whether its he know psychological issues or not) does not deal well with rebuke or criticism.
But, poor taste aside, this is a media construct designed not for the well being of the Kelly family, but to sell papers, let blog “experts” write their pieces and keyboard warriors hammer away.
Fact is that the NRL could has dealt with this with a fine in the first week it was reported.

The truth may hurt, Andrew Fifita, but you need to hear it

Thought Whittington for the Kings was actually the bloke who got them back in the game. Really pressed the Bullets with those long arms and disrupted them enough that the poorly performing Kings could mount a run.

Rating the NBL imports after opening round

Way to stereotype people with a lower socio-economic level than your own. But by all means, make snide remarks about “backwards plebs” in this backwards country of ours to get your point across…….

UPDATE: Mike Baird confirms greyhound ban backflip

Takes me back, the little red head pulling teh strings for Robins.

Actually remember seeing Justin Morgan at headingley just when he had been appointed coach in 05, he did some good things.

James Webster to head up new City of Hull Academy

Maybe Luke Lewis? He was far and away the best back rower form-wise in the NRL around Origin time, despite not playing!

Five questions from the Cowboys versus Sharks semi-final

Yeah Pat, not sure that Townsend has developed to the point that he is a moral to be Maloneys partner, especially given Bird saying he would like to stay as 5/8th. Sharks need another decent prop and depth at half.

Cronulla Sharks season review: Porch light on but burning bright

Gallen, Ennis, Graham, Fifita?

Five questions from the Cowboys versus Sharks semi-final

Im still not convinced that Townsend has developed enough to hold down a spot, especially since Jack Bird is making noises about wanting to stay at 5/8. I dont think Beale and Leutele deserve to be dropped after solid seasons, though Ricks defensive lapses are a worry at times. Maybe Maloney will be able to be more of a half?

Looking foward to seeing Nu Brown back after missing the year, showed some glimpses at 5/8 last year and looks like he could be the utility off the bench the Sharks will need (assuming Barba will be fullback).

Five questions from the Cowboys versus Sharks semi-final

Well Big T, the best thing is that the best 4 teams are left in the comp at this point, so, as Ryan says, “the system works”

Five questions from the Cowboys versus Sharks semi-final

Gday Ryan, a few points if I may.

Hard to criticize the coach (ASADA debacle notwithstanding), as the roster is very forward heavy, with halves that can only be classified as solid, very similar to the Bulldogs. The play, as such, relies on forward dominance and lateral shifts to the backs after some quick play the balls punching through the advantage line. You could argue that given that the Sharks do not have rep level halves that the game plan and tactics is quite effective.

Lets face it, the Sharks were very poor, and the Cowboys were exceptional. As Flanno said, everything goes right when you are “on”. The Sharks rolled the ball dead quite a few times, whereas the Cowboys would get a saloon bounce and a repeat set. The Sharks could not maintain possession to build pressure. Luke Lewis had his worst game in Sharks colours after being close the best Sharks player all year.

Matt Scott, Tamou etc were exceptional, and Scotts run to start the games reminded us of Klemmers charge v Storm at Belmore earlier in the year. Morgan, as fine as a running 5/8 in the comp, made the Sharks pay for some poor reads and tackling by some good, hard gap running. JT didnt have to do too much, but his standing as the ebst player in the game ensured that he knows what to do when you are on top, and he orchestrated perfectly.

Bunnies, his brother works there.

VOTE: Where will Robbie Farah play in 2016?

Yawn……..
So the sharks have played one poor game in 2 months and its doom and gloom.
Dont get me wrong, the Sharks were very poor, their usually rapid linespeed was down severely for whatever reason, and as you point out, Robson and Bird looked bereft of ideas, and Gallen and Grahams propensity to hold the ball instead of looking to pass was vexing to say the least.

However, you can only play as well as the other team lets you, and Melbourne certainly dictated the tempo of the game, in much the same way the Sharks have been able to do during their winning streak. For all people making whingeing claims, I suggest you actually watch the game. Melbourne were “dominating” the ruck, and that makes it very difficult.

I would suggest that Cronulla have showed plenty of hunger to win big games, consistently beating top 4 sides all year.

But Tim, dont let a sensationalistic and simple peice of opinion writing get in the way of reality…….

PRENTICE: Gummy Sharks have become toothless terribles

Have alot of mates from Leeds and they all agree that Maxwell is merely a slogger who hasnt impressed anyone with his attitude or application……

Australia should pick Glenn Maxwell for the fifth Test

Were not these the same parties involved with Sonny-Bill Williams walking out on the Bulldogs after just signing a lucrative 4 year deal?

Toulon showing bad attitude in battle for Quade Cooper

The ARU should tell this douche’ come and test this in the Australian Supreme Court.

And appoint a judge who is a Bulldogs fan!!!

He didn t seem to have an issue with Money-Bill breaking his contract and then ignoring the NRLs request not to register the contract.

Cheika hits back at Boudjellal

Geez Ryan, funny how you didnt mention David Klemmer deliberately walking over to Ennis after Big Frankies try and rubbing his head, sparking a melee of sorts!

Looking through Roselands coloured glasses perhaps lol

It's time for the NRL to ban the head pat

Greg, maybe you should also qualify while you wintnessed poor behaviour at your sons league games, this want actually a “junior” kids match, it was an A Grade match ie “grown-ups”.

Still no excuse by any stretch, but people who may not understand the “junior” part of the report.

As an aside, it was funny yesterday at belmore, all the punters “filming” Fifita during the warm-ups.

Love Dogs of Wars suggestion, make them do penance by actually helping the community, fines/suspensions just may not have the impact as being at the coalface. Having said that, they obviously do take an interest in their Junior leagues since they obviously go back to help and watch.

If the allegations are true, the Fifitas should be out for the season

“barely played”???
Are you having a laugh? You do realise he’s been starting for the last month or so…….

Exum has played plenty, but hasnt shown too much offensively. Ingles has initiated the offence more than Exum. Coache Snyder does like Exums defensive length and hustle, which is why Burke plays off the bench.

Hood, Ingles and Gobert have been the standout “rookies”.

Utah are jazzing their way into the NBA finals
