Dragons board really lucked out with being able to get flanno in on this unusual arrangement which will allow Mary to hang around and see out his last contract extension while essentially keeping the seat warm for flanno. No payout for Mary, and dragons still get a legitimate change in coaching which was sorely needed. Mary will still be “head coach” for the next little bit but I feel the role will be more of a ceremonial thing than anything else. 2020 could be a good year for the saints

How long can the Dragons give McGregor to turn it around?

The point you made about joey and Gus is spot on. So frustrating to enjoy a game when these so called “experts” are coming out with such garbage. As a fan of the game I really get annoyed as the gf and games like SOO are show piece games where casual fans are watching. All joey and Gus do is confuse and denigrate the game and alienate a potential new fan by labelling fair calls as controversial and controversial calls as fair and breathing negativity on every other decision the referee makes. How can a newcomer get on board with the game if the “leading voices” of rugby league are continually talking it down and confusing all logic? I personally can’t wait for Gus to go, I think joey can be good in limited capacity but he has to be surrounded by professionals who keep him on track. At the moment though, he is shocking. If nine have more of sterlo and Slater doing the coverage next year I think it would be much more articulate and insightful.

A rational review of Sunday’s refereeing dramas

Perhaps a shot clock for trainers to prevent them from lingering and being passive influence? Trainers are a blight on the game, the way they tactically stop play is not in the spirit of the game. HIAs and stoppages are a loophole that is too easy to exploit. For what it’s worth, trainers should only be able to call for a stop play if a medicab is required – if time is stopped by a trainer, an interchange needs to happen. You can’t stop the game for a cramp 30 metres away.

Also, re: headbins – I think they should remain as free interchanges if they are subbed immeadiatly after the contact. If the club leaves the player on and then gets told by the independent HIA doctor that the player has to come off, they should wear that as an interchange plus be fined.

The NRL knew the risks for years about on-field trainers and did nothing

I hope Josh Jackson gets the captain of the year. He lead that young pack of puppies so well even when the chips were down and it would have been easy to throw in the towel. Champion player.

The glaring omission from Dally M award nominations

When there are teams playing that I don’t care much for, such as roosters or storm or manly or souths, I find myself supporting the individuals and specific moments of play and just enjoying the footy. Never once have I said “please let the Sydney team win because just because they are from Sydney” all that state based fanaticism is reserved purely for state of origin, if anything, it’s always about cheering for the underdog. And just for the record, as a Sydney-sider, the broncos vs cowboys GF was the best I have ever seen. I hope Canberra can win in a similar contest this Sunday.

Why the hell do I have to support the Sydney team in the grand final?

Widdop wasn’t a dud. The problems with dragons all year was the outside backs and fullbacks

Sorry Mary, it's time to go

I want walker bros too, but will settle for flanno

Sorry Mary, it's time to go

Sheens also had runs on the board with premierships and alot more experience, I think you can excuse Wests for giving Sheens a long string. I think Mary’s ability to get extensions without any real coaching experience is baffling and inexcusable from the dragons board. Well done to Mary though.

Sorry Mary, it's time to go

More the “old boys club-ness” of it all when it comes to decision making what I mean with the basketcase.

The uncomfortable truth about the NRL’s horrible media coverage

Well, his role at penrith didn’t shut him up, but I do concede that the dragons may be basket case enough to keep him more than distracted. However the case may be, if he holds any official capacity at any club, the Nrl should use that position to keep him accountable for his tirades. Hopefully keep him in check

The uncomfortable truth about the NRL’s horrible media coverage

I agree so much with this peice. I am also frustrated when I hear the shocking state of the coverage, it’s frustrating to me as a lifelong fan but even more so, its infuriating to think this is what a casual fan might be exposed to. Gus is a rugby league supremo who is untouchable, I would love some up and coming sports journalist to take him to task in the papers or on telly, just keep peppering him with questions to highlight the hypocrisy and fact check what he says, ask him how he thinks what he says during the game is actually doing for the game. Sadly, the state of journalism is in the same sorry state as the commentary and coverage.

The uncomfortable truth about the NRL’s horrible media coverage

For mine, Goulds commentary decline hit it’s tipping point when vossy got punted and Hadley remained. Outrage in, love for the game out. Nine has exasibated this further by surrounding him with broadcasting rookies who are too inexperienced or too intimidated or both to pull Gus up on his damaging rants. I fear the only way to remedy this is to oust Gus completely and the only way to exile Gus is for a new broadcaster to buy the rights.

Referees get it right and the commentators misread the room - again

Lets give Adrian some credit, I’m sure the position he holds has nothing to do with blindly agreeing with whatever knights legend Andrew Johns says…

How to overhaul the NRL

Gus’s whole argument is that the game is purely for entertainment so that’s why refs should “manage” games. How much of his outrage is for the entertainments sake? I don’t know what he wants from the game, he does complain when he perceives the game to be “boring” or if a call “costs” a team. He will criticise refs for not getting calls right but also for using video to check and ensure they do. It’s unreasonable and he is damaging the refs overall with his ongoing, yet inconsistent gripes. In all his outrage, I have never heard him say the players need to get better. It’s always been the refs fault. Let’s face it, we don’t need refs to manage games, we need refs to officiate the best they can and players need to rise up and be better. If they get penalised it’s because they have violated the rules. Believe or not Gus is not an expert on the rules, the refs are. They get an amazing amount of it right under the greatest of pressure, give them a break.

How to overhaul the NRL

I’m pretty sure flanno did play for dragons though 😂

NRL opens door for Shane Flanagan to coach again

I don’t know if it would be good or bad. Just seems like what is being lined up. I can’t imagine flanno going rouge again though, that would be a whole new level of stupid. Thing is he can coach and dragons have a good squad. Having a decent bit of support for Mary might make Mary better? Well I hope so anyway. Anything different to what we have had has got to be better.

Dragons new “assistant” coach?

Purrrrfect!

Bellamy and Reynolds back Broncos pokie players

If this was Melbourne players instead of broncos we could just call it a “storm in a teacup” and move on.

Bellamy and Reynolds back Broncos pokie players

JWH tends to play with more aggression than control and its caught up with him in time for a big game. Roosters fans will be sore because he’s a big loss to their team, but if this was only round three everyone would cop sweet with no argument. How is this any different to South’s losing Sam Burgess for hair pulling? I actually applauded the judiciary for standing firm with the punishment.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves banned for Sydney Roosters' preliminary final

Not a good look for a game that is propped up on gambling and Pokies.

Reports: Broncos players were at the pub prior to historic Eels loss

I agree Mr R Rooster, how about we send the chooks to Perth so they can enjoy that one team town set up? 😂

Thanks now I had to find out where touch line originates from. Found this
The shape of the rugby field was designed by accident, for when the game moved from the streets and school quadrangles to the playing field, the only markings were a line through the middle indicating the territory of each side and another which indicated the goal. When the game started to attract spectators they would encroach onto the playing area so a line was drawn to keep them back. The ball did not become dead until it was grounded over this line. The first player to get the ball over the spectators line to touch it down was entitled to restart the game by putting the ball in. That is how the term the ‘touch line’ came into being

NRLW has learnt from AFLW's disrespect

Not wanting to join in on the code measuring contest but just wanted to say thanks as I always wondered why it was called a try and now I know. Cheers Mr Munro 👍

NRLW has learnt from AFLW's disrespect

Yeah Darius saying he wants to stay on is almost like he is doing it in spite of everyone, including himself.
