Just another Rugby tragic...

In the good old days the Captain went down with his ship.

After this ‘titanic-esque’ rugby year the man who boasted of his “Captain’s pick” really has no choice but to stand down.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

60 days – ffs

'I won't back down': McLennan set to dig in as embattled RA chair calls on EGM to 'clear this up once and for all'

“especially under my reign.”

And therein lies Eddie’s problem. He has always thought he was King

On this performance -and with even with this referee’s help – the ABs won’t make it out of the quarter finals at next years RWC

REACTION: 'Disgraceful!': Wallabies stunned as ref 'cracks under pressure,' hands Bledisloe Cup to All Blacks

In the end that was the most AB-seque win of all time. They did it again because the Ref/linesman/ball boy/supporter/opposition bottled it. 100 odd years of myth and luck

A pretty solid side considering the amount of injuries Rennie has to manage. Good bench. Looking forward to seeing how OZ handle the passionate ARG side.

AUS vs. ARG: Wright boosted by key role, two debutants named, Rennie's bench gamble, Cheika's sweeping changes

It was obvious before the weekends matches that Gardner should have reffed the Blues & Brumbies game and that O’Keffee the all NZ semi-final.

The only good thing I can say about O’Keffee is that at least he is not Paul Williams.

How the Brumbies lost their semi-final ‘State of Origin’ against the Blues

Moments of brilliance only. It’s a team game not a BB highlights game. This maybe why NZ is coming back to the pack – everyone waiting for someone to win the game through flashes of brilliance rather than doing the hard team yards.

Richie or BB?: New Zealand’s flyhalf question has a simple answer

Who would I rather Oz face? Definitely BB because of the chaos he brings to NZ as well as to us.

@Brian…Paul William makes Ben O’Keeffe look good – and that’s not easy.

REACTION: 'They kicked too much away'- Reds kick the ball to Chiefs, Chiefs run it back, Chiefs win

There is a thread running over on Reddit on those who have improved and those who have lost ground that you might find interesting too.

Who are the biggest winners and losers of each team from the Six Nations? from rugbyunion

Didn’t Jordie Barrett get off for an even worse clean out last year? Tupou just needs to claim he is a Barrett and it will be all sweet!

Reds face nervous wait as Taniela Tupou cited ahead of Waratahs showdown

Mack Hansen – Man of the Match on debut. FFS RA!

Should Rugby Australia be compensated for Mack Hansen's Ireland call-up?

For crying out loud – not Kurtley again.

He does not bring the point of difference that Cooper or Kerevi bring to their positions. He is not a match winner anymore.

The only flashes of brilliance during the Northern Tour were well after the games were lost and he was playing for his own highlight reel.

Could Australia A beat this England team?

Easy!

You haven’t factored in their current mental disintegration, lack of interest, selection failures or woeful shot selection.

Could Australia’s A team beat this English rabble in a Test?

If it’s attacking rugby you want then get the defensive team clearly behind the last feet in a ruck – say a metre behind.

How to make rugby a true spectator sport

Would you start White or McDermott against Scotland? I would have preferred McDermott starting against Japan for his unpredictability and to counter their line speed. Scotland plays more like Japan than the other home nations in my mind.

Bryce Hegarty should also be considered for these next 3 matches. Covers 15/10 – our current weaknesses – and is performing well for the 7 outa 7 Leicester Tigers.

I would also keep an eye on Carter Gordon in the longer term.

Thought it was Rennie and the coaches that took their collective ‘feet off the throat’. Emptying the bench, because the game appeared to be won, nearly bit them with the drop in intensity and the unexpected injuries to Kerevi and Petaia.

Nitpicking Rennie still searching for flawlessness as Wallabies couldn't put 'foot on the throat'

I have thought for a while that Kellaway would be a good fit at fullback and used as the second playmaker. This game was the first time I have seen him drop into first receiver in what looked to be a pre-planned tactic. Nick do you think Kellaway has the potential for that #15/2nd playmaker role at the RWC?

Bell starting is interesting. Slipper & Tupou to counter the Bok’s Bench is a pretty good idea.

Would shift Kellaway to 15 and Petaia to the wing and Banks out of the 23.

But excited (and slightly nervous) to see what Quade brings. I am expecting a lot of little deft kicks to get in behind the line.

CONFIRMED: Quade Cooper returns for Wallabies at No.10, Rodda starts, two debutants

“They would do well just to get them onside as it is now.”

Except they don’t/can’t/won’t get them onside now. The cynic in me knows that they will infringe but at least a one metre rule would actually get them somewhere behind the last feet and not up level with the attacking halfback.

Do we want attacking rugby or defensive rugby to have the higher priority?

Coach’s Corner Issue 25: Is defence really the best means of attack?

A simple rule change to open up space for the attacking team is for the defence to be kept one metre behind the last feet at the ruck.
