Oh no, Joe. You might be onto something. Perhaps I should stop booing the Rabbitohs opponents each week and start cheering for them instead. Keep them off balance by using reverse psychology! 😛 👍

Is it ever okay to boo your footy team?

I missed your input at the live blog during the Eels vs Dragons game old mate. Old mate mighty was also MIA.

Where were you? At the pub drowning your sorrows or sitting at home aghast with your jaw dropped watching that Hindenburg disaster like performance from the Eels? Pedro the Saint must have been over the moon with the Dragons performance.

My OCD want let me! 😂

Settle down Walter. You sound like you took your angry pills this morning. How is it that you can be so easily triggered by a simple opinion? Is there any correlation between your agitated state and the Storm currently being adrift of the top 5 I wonder? 😁

Re your “losses to English Superleague” Walter, they are all either NRL rejects who couldn’t get a contract in the NRL or are too old to compete at NRL level especially given the faster format of the game. This is something James Maloney conceded in response to rumours that the Roosters were about to sign him as a replacement for Luke Keary. He said he was “too old for the NRL”.

Looking at the current standard of play across the clubs and the great divide between the elite teams and the rest the disparity in quality is self-evident.

Looking at your “pacific islands solution”, that talent has to be developed. Who is doing that at present and what will it cost the game? Who will pick up that bill Walter?

Btw, your “pacific islands solution” on home soil has largely been to the detriment of those kids who don’t develop as early physically and so are lost to the game competing against behemoths that would be better suited to a weight for age competition.

How many kids who would otherwise have been developed by NRL junior nurseries have been lost to the game because concerned parents have directed their kids towards another code like soccer?

I’m telling you Walter IMO the quality of the current game will be diminished by an influx of lesser talent that is not above park football standard if the number of NRL clubs is expanded.

The NRL needs to re-introduce the three grade system of U20’s, Reserve Grade and NRL as a pathway for junior development. The suspension of lower grade competitions due to covid-19 restrictions has clearly had a noticeable and lasting impact on the depth and standard of players clubs have to draw from. Feel free to disagree but keep an eye on your blood pressure mate.

"Do it for the right reasons": Abdo says NRL won't force expansion

The refs or the cheating opposition or the conspiracy behind the game to favour the rich clubs and keep the blue collar teams down.

I may have to adjust that last one though after the Rabbitohs started wearing Armani suits, are funded by billionaire James Packer and have celebrity A-Listers appearing each week in Russell Crowe’s corporate box. A few weeks ago he had Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Goldbloom wearing Rabbitohs merchandise. 😁

Same argument for the U.S. that it is meant to favour the Republicans (or conservative parties). Yet when Americans turned out in record numbers just over 4 years ago they elected Trump. So go figure.

NRL Round 6 teams: Trbojevic returns, Milford dumped

The simple fact is that the game needs to expand to grow to reach new markets and build its supporter base. The problem is that the game at present can’t support any additional teams. The pool of available players and coaches won’t support it and the quality of the game and the product as a whole will only deteriorate.

Neither can the game afford to lose large sections of its loyal supporter base by looking at merging clubs, forcing clubs to relocate or removing clubs from the competition.

It is a conundrum that requires careful consideration and cannot simply be sliced through like Alexander the Great’s method of unraveling the Gordian knot.

“I wish voting was optional with our choices.”

I missed that bit… that is exactly how I feel and it is one of the things the Americans got right.

How can you have a true democracy unless you not only have the right to vote but the right not to vote as well? It seems a little totalitarian to force people to do something that should be a freedom not an obligation.

Mic drop = no comeback, checkmate!
That was checkmate… mate. 😁

Is it ever okay to boo your footy team?

It’s simple. None of us make anywhere near what these largely uneducated young players make for a living and the ones on half a million plus we wouldn’t earn in 5 years or more.

Nevertheless we all fork out our hard earned in attendance to games, club memberships and subscriptions to sports coverage to support the game we love. We make the effort to attend games or juggle our busy schedules around to watch games and often make personal sacrifices to do so and most of us have done this most of our adult lives.

We have, each of us, followed our respective clubs for as long as we can remember and cheer for players who, for the most part, neither understand or have been part of those tribal allegiances (players like Adam Reynolds excepted). They are guns for hire who can be here one moment and gone the next.

It is only natural then, in the light of this and the aforementioned, to feel a little betrayed by a clear lack of effort and commitment. That frustration, disappointment and feeling of betrayal is what manifests into booing. It is the only means we otherwise voiceless stakeholders of the game have at our means to express our frustration and dissatisfaction.

We can rightly call ourselves stakeholders in a game that, quite frankly, would NOT exist without our continued communal support and tribal allegiances. As such we have a voice and the right to express ourselves in whatever way we lawfully choose. I have never booed the Bunnies but I have shouted some sharp critiques at times that would curl your toes!

Poor performances are hard to accept but we have all been through it. We can live with that unless it becomes the norm rather than the exception. What we WON’T tolerate is a lack of effort and a lack of commitment and pride in the jersey. We won’t accept that, nor should we ever!

Correction… checking the dates that would have been after Cleary was sacked by Phil Gould and while he was without a coaching gig in 2016. The year Manly signed Barrett. At the time I posted comments saying that I had a feeling Baz would never understand the culture and he would never be accepted. Was I wrong?

John Morris quits Sharks as Cronulla confirm new NRL coach

Manly has a unique culture and history. I believe outsiders to that culture and system find it hard to adapt and to be accepted. That is why I was 100% behind Des returning to Brookvale and the only replacement for Des I have suggested is Geoff Toovey.

Mind you, when Baz (Barrett) was more concerned with lawn furniture than coaching and he was on the outer at Manly for the same reason I said Manly should go hard after Ivan Cleary before signed with the Tigers.

Had they done that Nathan Cleary would be partnering DCE in the halves today and perhaps a few of his Panthers juniors mates would have followed both Cleary’s to the insular peninsula.

I only follow the round ball during the World Cup and I support Chelsea in the EPL but I can’t tell you when I last watched a game.

I lived in Brazil for 4 months a while back and even the domestic competition is worth watching.

I went to see a game and it was a wild experience. It was a night game and after the home side scored all of a sudden I was being jostled and everything went black when some black material covered my head.

It was on of those flag banners that gets unfolded over the fans to cover a section of the seating. The friends I was with laughed when I told them I thought I was being mugged! For a second I thought I was back in Redfern! 😂

Don’t forget Ronaldinho and Kaká.

You boys forgot Fred. Pronounced Fre-ge by Brazilians. Also the R in Ronaldo and Ronaldinho is pronounced with a H like Honaldo and Honal-ginyo. ⚽

Spartacus perhaps but not me. My heritage is mixed. Part European on my father’s side and 4th generation Australian from English and one part Irish hertiage on my mother’s side.

I was referring to my better half. 😊

The Sharks haven’t missed the finals under Morris who has the Sharks currently 9th on the ladder. Had they held on to beat the Roosters the Sharks would be in the top 8 at the Raiders expense. Would there have been calls fo Ricky’s head if that was the case?

There are 7 coaches whose teams are currently under the Sharks on the ladder and who should have bigger question marks over their heads than Morris. Particularly a coach with the experience of Des Hasler who was very quick to negotiate a contract extension before the gallows could be built at Lottoland. It’s almost as if Des knew his number was up.

If only you boys knew my close connection to those names… except for Harry.

And when the Sharks are coming 9th and missed out on beating the chooks by a whisker… a whisker that was just begining to grow on “wonder kid” Sam Walker’s chin.

I thought mushi was a Roosters supporter or am I the one who is confused. I guess then you are referring to ScoMo?

Interesting choice for me next election then… ScoMo (Sharks) or Albo-sleazy (Bunnies). On moral principle I’ll stand with the Sharks on this one but will bleed cardinal and myrtle until the day I die. #SSTID

I wonder how many Manly fans near soiled themselves at that picture and news of Turbo Tom’s return. It will certainly be a boost for the Sea Eagles but they shouldn’t expect too much too soon from The Big Slipper.

Turbo will need a game or two under his belt before he really stretches out like he did on The Corso at Manly. And remember, Turbo can’t fix Manly’s defensive flaws or their lack of intensity by himself. So the whole team has to lift.

“the only reason the coward from cronulla didn’t flee to Hawaii during covid was the borders were closed”

👍 👍 👍

He certainly extended the middle finger to all those unfortunate Australians who lost their homes to bushfires while he was getting a tan on an Hawaiian beach adamant he was going to enjoy his holiday regardless.

I am the opposite. Growing up in Redfern I voted Labour all my life until Julia Gillard knifed Kevin Rudd in the back at the behest of the King Maker, the man who would be king, Bill Shorten. I have voted Liberal ever since.

Ironically I have met Julia Gillard in person and I even had a photo taken with her. I had to restrain myself mushi not to pull the old rabbit ears two fingers behind her head. It was difficult but I managed. 😂
