Culture is built on attitude and effort and the Bulldogs showed none of it yesterday. It was a disgraceful performance and their long suffering fans had every right to boo them! Reed Mahoney had no right to call them out for it, he should have apologized. As for the Knights, the Ponga to five-eighth experiment should never be allowed to happen again.

That argument has been used for 30 years in respect to the lack of sporting success on the Gold Coast and it’s probably true. But I’d argue Easts and Manly are not too dissimilar in geographical features and lifestyle, and they’re 2 clubs who have achieved plenty of success.
Titans defy NRL's gossip tradition by showing good governance in keeping Hasler deal under wraps
And that’s the point to my argument, he’s a brilliant attacker which is precisely what NSW need. Scroll up re Drinky’s defence compared to Walsh.
Selection Blues: Here’s a novel idea - a NSW team picked on current form instead of past reputation
I agree, but your argument against Drinky from being picked doesn’t address NSW’s biggest issue, which is scoring points. Walsh’s defensive shortcoming’s are statistically worse than Drinkwater and the consistent errors in his game were well documented before Game I, but Billy picked him based on his strengths, not his weaknesses, and look at how well he went.
Selection Blues: Here’s a novel idea - a NSW team picked on current form instead of past reputation
The Titans are a very well run club. Competent owners, competent board, quality roster, huge junior nursery, strong local comps, excellent pathway systems, great boutique stadium… all that’s left is achieving on-field success. Can Dessie Hasler turn them into a top 4 side and win a premiership? Time will tell I suppose but I do think he’s the right man for the job.

NSW dominated possession and field position for large chunks of the first 2 games, but perhaps their biggest issue this series has been their inability to score points. They have struggled to even create try scoring opportunities and I don’t see how Edwards, Gutherson and Kennedy can help fix this issue from fullback. It blows my mind how Scott Drinkwater isn’t held in the same regard as those blokes, considering he wipes the floor with all of them in respect of line break assists and most importantly, try assists. Regardless of who NSW pick in the halves, they need an X-factor. Unfortunately Trell is n/a and as great as Edwards, Gutho and Kennedy are in their own right, they wouldn’t bring what Drinkwater can bring to a NSW attack that has been woefully predictable and unimaginative.

If only there was a plethora of quality coaches waiting in the wings! I often compare coaches under pressure and their predicaments to Ricky Stuart’s tenure as Raiders coach. He made the finals once in his first 5 years, but nobody ever batted an eyelid and he eventually got them to a Grand Final in his 6th year as their coach. The Knights have made the finals twice in Adam O’Brien’s 3.5 seasons as coach. Weird!

If I was Freddy, I’d take a gamble on Tavita Pangai Jr on the bench as an impact forward. He’s been good since he returned from injury. Can play in the middle or on an edge. He’s got a bit of mongrel in him and plays with plenty of aggression. And his offloading ability could cause havoc against a tired QLD forward pack. He’s always been built for Origin!
Origin I predicted teams: Hynes, Graham bang down Blues door but pack cops hit, Maroons No.1 jersey up for grabs
The Cows current form aside, I think they’ll get value for money out of those players. TPJ I think could fulfil that potential under Ciraldo’s coaching and Gus’s guidence… I’d even pick him on the NSW bench as an impact players who’s offloading ability could cause QLD a lot of problems. As for the rest, I agree. Most notably Ponga. Newy have looked a better side without him.

Stats suggest he’s improved exponentially… but there’s only so much convincing he can do playing a struggling Titans side
'I had a good look at myself': How a year of soul-searching is making David Fifita a must-pick for Queensland
Missed tackles, ineffective contact, slow line speed, poor spacing, lack of communication, one-out rubbish coming out of yardage, horrible kicking game, terrible discipline, no energy, no enthusiasm, piss poor attitude.
I see players who earned rep jumpers and rich contract upgrades, resulting in a team of overinflated egos who believed their own hype.
In 2022, the Cowboys prided themselves on defence, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, discipline and playing the game the right way… a set of standards which they have not met at all in 2023.
This is the loss Cowboys needed to have. Close losses can often cover up the cracks, but their shortcomings this season are now fully and indisputably exposed.
After a prelim in 2022, what’s going wrong in North Queensland?
The Knights look a better side, especially defensively with Gamble in the #6 jumper defending 3rd man in. Miller has been an x-factor at the back… I honestly don’t think Ponga fits into their best starting 13 at the moment.
Knightmare: Ponga fails to impress in Newcastle horror show

I think Walker’s demotion to reserve grade had more to do with his combination with Keary because up until that point, Keary’s form wasn’t much better than Walker’s. Also, at this stage of Keary’s career, he’s better suited to the #7 jumper. And they had to Manu more involved. So Walker essentially had to go unfortunately, but I can see him working his way back into the side via the #14 jumper.
'It’s tough for Sammy': Manu feels for Walker, but sets sights on extended run in Roosters No.6 jersey
10 minutes, Golden Try. A try ends the game, but a team can still win after 10 mins if they’re ahead on the scoreboard via penalty goals or field goals.
How to make golden point even more golden
How many one game wonders has Fittler burned during his tenure? When QLDER’s say NSW don’t get Origin, is it banter, or is it the truth? QLD picks genuine Origin players. Freddy selects players like he’s part of an NRL fantasy comp. Origin has a completely different meaning and the players play with a different purpose than NSW. I totally agree with Denan Kemp when he says, Jake Trbojevic is the Origin standard for NSW, and if players don’t match his standard’s, then they’re not Origin players. Who in the NSW side over the past couple of series meets those standards? Teddy (despite his current form), Cam Murray, Liam Martin, Yeo… that’s about it. No wonder they’re a state of disorder.
No rhyme or reason to Fittler's haphazard Blues selections as Maroons keep laughing at constant team changes
