Great article Andrew and thanks for taking the time to read mine too. I agree we need national alignment in the basics of the game and a foundation of better coaches at all levels. RA are making progress in aligning the U15-U20 pathways and crucially retaining talent from RL. Our U18 Oz schools team just beat the Irish and Scot U19 teams in the NH, so the talent is there. Scotland were 6N U 19 champions and our younger boys belted them. The replay is on rugby.com.au. Congrats on the article and have a great Xmas!
What Rugby Australia must learn from New Zealand
Thanks for the great analysis as always NB. The point about backrower selections for the role in attack is an interesting one. Ball playing forwards (and solid lineout options) like Higginbotham, Holloway, Timu and even Fardy to a certain extent struggle to get a look in? It seems like the forwards aren’t sure what Cheika wants in those wider channels or what balance he wants in loose v tight play?
How the Wallabies can rebuild their attack
Should be thumbs up but the edit function is worse than a Wallaby lineout????
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Thanks Nobes! Always appreciate your perspective on here????
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Cheers Lano and phew what a wish list? They just need to add world peace and settling the Israel -Palestinian conflict in there too????
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Cheers LK. Agree that under Cheika some players seem to get more chances than others which in itself adds to an overall perception of inconsistency in selections
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
NZ definitely prepares their younger players better before exposure to test rugby Ralph
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Yes I agree worth further consideration at least if we want to manage player workloads
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Hi Realist yeah I forgot about Higgers. He should have everything we need in a backrower but he hasn’t found his niche in the team. Obviously some behind the scenes stuff we’re not seeing.
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Some really good points Hoy! Too many disconnects and incoherence in the Australian development systems that we are way behind the 8 ball in fixing.
Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Cheers SMI????As Hoy says below plenty of examples where Aussie players leave our development systems and maximise their potential under NZ structures.

Can we solve the Wallabies' selection dilemma?
Pretty sure John is talking about the NZ structures that have delivered dominance in test and super rugby in the last 5-6 years.
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Agree he can only work within the teams playing style and Foleys kicking out of hand shows some improvement
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Hi Hog didn’t mean to laud JON just that this bunch make him look good?
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Cheers PK. As they say some birds prefer the safety of the cage to freedom?
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
I think you’ve completely missed the point Noodles but thanks for the feedback. And no I am not an RA board member.
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Might have to check Sports Bet for the odds on that one OTB?
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Thanks MZ. She certainly has a hard road ahead of her but it’s these challenges that define great CEOs v business as usual types. I don’t think we can afford BAU from RA anymore.
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Thanks Freddie for those good points. May explain why RA are trying to keep Twiggy at arms length?
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Hi Masher. One of the averse stimuli is the decision making structure of the board based on its amateur era constitution. Getting the members to change this is a tremendous challenge. Other national unions have managed it but we haven’t yet.
Rugby Australia needs to treat its case of learned helplessness
Raelene Castle confirmed that on Kick and Chase tonight. She said RA had been trying to facilitate discussions with QC by other franchises but that he was not really interested. A pretty good interview that covered most of the questions we have for RA.
Why aren't we talking about Quade Cooper?
Great article as always Nick, thanks. I just hope Fiji aren’t our Peru…plenty of international talent and dangerous strike players around the field who the Wallaby coaching staff may not do enough homework on.
How will the Wallabies unravel Warren Gatland’s Welsh web?
