Must be a Tah’s thing, why not take the three when they are on offer?. My under 10’s coach taught us to always take the three!!
Gordon must have caught the disease from Hooper?
Deja vu for Tane as Drua deliver another heart-breaker to under fire Coleman
Ben, tribalism is good and rugby in Australia certainly needs Moore more of it!
I believe that it is virtually impossible to have a team if one doesn’t have a homebase field and/or Club house. (Our Socceroos Coach, Graham Arnold said as much yesterday and written up in The Roar today!.)
Ballymore has been the spiritual home for Rugby in Queensland for years and I gather it is now “owned” by the QRU and ‘tis the de facto home of the Reds! A tribal home base! There is no way the QRU should give that up in any centralised “RA” model! I used to play at Ballymore (once or twice in the 3:00pm slot!!) and train at Ballymore “B” or “C?” fields with a club side, so that is sacred turf to large numbers of Queenslanders.
Do the other Oz-based SR “Clubs” have similar? Or have they spent their funds subsidizing league, or poached interstate players, purchased for them by that now called RA.?
The distance between Daceyville and Moore Park should be of concern to all Australian rugby fans and gives new meaning when one hears that deals are done at “arms length”. But it certainly now is better than the previous cohabitation at Alliance Stadium/ Moore Park?
One could also ask why is the oldest union in Australia living out of transportables on UNSW grounds? Don’t tell me they left all those funds at Moore Park? The lure of the Azure Cafe must still play havoc with some players and officials? Generational change is obviously needed?
If you’ve read to here, you now are aware that tribalism, may, and should have stirred up support for your team and maybe a little bit of hatred for Qld. We wouldn’t want it any other way! Always has been, always will….
Tribalism is good?!
Passionate, visceral, irrational tribalism is vital for any competition to succeed. Is a lack of it damaging Super Rugby?
Ok discipline and work rate is on the rise; next I want my Reds to be precise and clinical. (Please thank you, Les)

Yep, we have SR Australia!

The NRC teams were fabrications. No traditions, no fan base, no history. Clubland has more support, and enthusiasm.

From memory Folau held the record for the most number of tries scored in SR, ( 60?), which was only just been beaten by Julian Savea on the weekend.

Nick, thank you for your upbeat assessment. Australian Rugby needs such.
However, there are so many elephants in the room, methinks that if even half come home to roost , RA needs to fold ( for the good of Rugby in Oz). – luv mixing my metaphors, while bleeding Red!
RA, and all the ( Australian) Super Clubs need to open their books and have them independently audited with results made public! If RA is going to let the Rebels “ hang out to dry” for a $21m debt, what was/is the financial situation of all the other Australian SR franchises?
To me, the Tahs have never played on an even financial playing field. All the deals, including Wallaby top-ups, positioning of league converts etc need to transparently on the table. Especially, how much debt the Tahs have brought to the RA table, by their mutually agreed merger?
A clean slate, new blood and points to prove: 15 reasons we're stoked Super Rugby is back
If the Tahs want them, and the Rebs are gone, then yes! Would be good to see players move the other way ( if possible) to the VRU to raise the standard there (maybe?) and create that “espirit de corp” rugby is famous for!
It has to be a level playing field though. It would not be a good look to see all those Reb players on Wallaby top-ups, move to the Tahs!
What is the Rebels' endgame? A Super club in Melbourne makes sense - but only if their players play in local comps
But I’d love to think there’s a reciprocal movement of displaced players to Vic ( but that would incur significant costs I imagine)
Being a frequent visitor to Wests Bulldogs ( they were my first Club in the late sixties), I’ve grown quite accepting of the Rebel players who frequent the clubhouse/ cafe etc. As mentioned , I’d like to think there is mutual benefit
Given the pain endured by Queensland during the birth of the Force ( Don’t think I’ll ever forgive Nathan Sharpe ! ), it would not be unreasonable of me to support the axing of the Force again? But I don’t. We need more rugby in Oz, not less!

Watch them spend to get Tupou and Kellway to the Tahs
CONFIRMED: Rebels fall into voluntary administration as Rugby Australia seeks 'sustainable and successful future'
Yes/ he played in the Brisbane comp for South’s and caused all sorts of issues when local grounds were having to cater for 15,000 plus spectators routinely!
Was the best thing for the local comp in a long time and that silly ex-league, ex-All Black coach lost the respect of all Queenslanders!

Sheek, we certainly need to keep rugby alive and well across all the State and Territory Unions across Oz. ( a bit like the old Sheffield Shield days for cricket). Super Rugby is akin to cricket’s Big Bash League, which in my opinion has taken some time to establish itself as a competition worth supporting.
I well remember the emotion and passion of the Qld vs NSW interstate games in league and union in the 60s and 70s. I have not so fond memories sitting on the concrete levels in the outer at Lang Park watching NSWRL Blues ( with 50% Qld players) piling on cricket scores against the QRL Reds, feeling very lonely with only about a couple of hundred fellow spectators. ( free tickets from the QRL to all schoolboy players).
I can also remember going to Ballymore for Reds vs Blues union matches and the ground was packed, both the Stand and the Hill! Atmosphere, tradition and parochialism by the ton! Hence my love for union. Traditions, and parochialism is what drives union and the post March “ espirit de corps” within and between the teams.
I wish the WARU and VicRU (and other state and territory unions) all the best in building their junior and senior levels. I think we could do without the Super Rugby franchises, but we do need developmental pathways to the Wallabies.
I think we could survive without all five “Super” franchises, but we need to keep all the Unions alive!

LP, it’s a plan with merit in my opinion. Better than anything coming out of RA so far? Has anything come out of RA recently ( apart from Schmidt’s appointment). ?
We can’t keep doing the same old thing and expecting a different outcome?. ( definition of stupidity)

ATW, it’s just an analogy. Nothing worth getting upset about.

How about a stand alone Oz comp at the state/territory level, before the SR comp begins? Given the crowd numbers at the SR Australia games ( during/post covid?) it would certainly arouse local ( and sponsor) interest.

Only because he was playing prior with the Broncos. The big money came from the Tahs.
Exclusive: Wallabies star to return to Waratahs in fresh blow to Rebels
Arrrgh, so RA’s centralised model means bringing all those on Wallaby top-ups, back to the Tahs? Tupou will be next?
Exclusive: Wallabies star to return to Waratahs in fresh blow to Rebels
Hooper was way out of his depth and as a consequence never really reached his potential. Was appointed because of a deal between the then ARU and the Tahs. Actually it sets the scene for what is happening now!
One of his first jobs was to support Beale in bringing down Ewen MacKenzie! What a pathetic act!
