Thanks mate, having written about her over the past 12 years, it was a bittersweet column to have to write. If not for the terrible toll the injuries took, I am sure she would’ve still been playing for another 5-6 years. What an absolute champion.
Farewell to Lauren Jackson: The greatest Australian basketball player
Thanks mate. Yeah it’s tough, clearly education is going to be critical, making sure players know how to look after themselves after they’ve stopped playing etc. They can at least eliminate or even just reduce some of the risk factors that lead to the more serious ailments. Both the league and the players’ association need to be at the forefront of that.
Heavy hearts: The NBA's silent killer
80%? Really? I quoted Bird and Epstein and that was about it. I found a different study and I don’t recall there being any references to an NFL/CTE comparison in Jackie’s story. Or mentions of Reggie Lewis, Jason Collier and Conrad McRae. Or Ricky Berry and Mel Turpin for that matter. Given the subject, there’s always going to be historical analogies that are similar. Thanks for reading though, always appreciate the feedback.
Heavy hearts: The NBA's silent killer
Definitely agree with that Ryan. The patience is key, and is also why I think moving for Horford and Teague would seem to be making a move for making a move’s sake. Ainge generally doesn’t do that. It’s been fun to watch regardless.
Celtic pride: Rebuilding Boston and making the leap
The problem with that is Mr Wojnarowski has a long history of taking aim at LeBron, who has never let him inside his inner circle. Just saying be wary of the motives there. I would take more stock in the day-to-day beat writers like Dave McMenamin and Jason Lloyd, who have much greater access and insight into the team.
Don't blame LeBron James for David Blatt's firing
Thanks mate, much appreciated. I just think it’s awfully premature to label him the 4th greatest PG of all time when he has only really played at this (admittedly insanely high) level for what, the best part of two seasons. We’re always in this rush to pass a legacy judgement (both good and bad) on players, maybe just pump the brakes occasionally haha.
Is Steph Curry one of the NBA's greatest-ever point guards?
Yeah it’s between him and Byron Scott really. In a weird coincidence they were team-mates at Indiana for two seasons in the mid-90s. Larry Brown has a lot to answer for hahaha
Boys to men: How does Minnesota take the next step?
Absolutely, in the end, I thought MDA would ultimately be their best option because they need an uptempo system to really maximise Rubio’s talents. And he’s a point guard whisperer, watch him turn Ish Smith into Kevin Johnson hahaha. But Brooks would also be solid there for sure.
Boys to men: How does Minnesota take the next step?
Thanks mate, I can’t think of too many other teams that would suit him better, maybe New Orleans with Anthony Davis alongside him, the Lakers (as much as it pains me to say it haha) as well would be a nice fit.
Boys to men: How does Minnesota take the next step?
Correct. Conley, Green, Lee and Chalmers are all free agents after this year, while Randolph, Allen and Carter all come off the books the following season. Only Gasol is any significant cap burden from here on out.
Grinding to a halt: Where to now for the Memphis Grizzlies?
Great read Oak. Lots of people missing the point it seems. Entertaining.
