I have a feeling that night Rocca used a resin type substance on his gloves so the ball stuck in his hands. He probably did not realise his kicking would be effected. Having played gridiron myself, the leather palms of the gloves I had used stuck to a leather football to enhance grip. AFL gloves could be a different composition.
