It’s a bit funny seeing the usual doom and gloom around the Swans in the comments. Everyone predicts a Sydney slide before the start of just about every season.

I think they were a hell of a lot closer to a finals spot last year than people give them credit for and, given their four retirees played 15 games between them, haven’t really lost anyone outside of Zak Jones – who runs hard and breaks lines, but butchers the ball.

Eighth isn’t the craziest prediction I’ve seen, but I’d be satisfied with anywhere from there to 12th.

Super Rugby Round 2 teams: Reds drop Lucas in selection bombshell

The name of both the state and city come from the Kansas river.

Kansas state is named as such because the majority of the river flows through it, while the city situated around where the river ends (in Missouri) is called Kansas City.

Not a bad call, but Kansas City isn’t in Kansas – would hate to make the same mistake as old mate Trump…

What the one-off AFL State of Origin teams could look like

Every social media post the AFL has made over the last five years while NRL State of Origin has been played.

What the one-off AFL State of Origin teams could look like

Jacob Hopper’s return from injury is, in my books, the reason the Giants reached the grand final after a spluttering finish to the home-and-away season. Sorely underrated.

What the one-off AFL State of Origin teams could look like

Franklin won’t play because of his knee injury. Josh Kennedy was obviously close but I was more concerned with locking in Jack Riewoldt and then finding the best key tall partner to work with him and Hawkins was the best fit.

What the one-off AFL State of Origin teams could look like

Hawkins ahead of Franklin because he’s had knee surgery and will almost certainly not be fit to play.

Zorko was very, very close.

Knew you’d complain about that. I’m sure we can get Jack Ziebell or Ben Cunnington to run water.

"A sick joke": Serie A called out for using paintings of monkeys in anti-racism campaign

You’ve already moved the goalposts from there being “no connection” to African people to there now being a connection, but they’re not being implicitly targeted.

The fact of the matter is that negative comparisons between black people and primates have been a common form of racist behaviour in sport and, this season, it’s come to a head in Italian football. As such, any campaign attempting to eradicate racism by yet again comparing black people to primates is clearly going to be counter-intuitive and therefore deserves criticism for its clumsy insensitivity.

"A sick joke": Serie A called out for using paintings of monkeys in anti-racism campaign

What? African players have been derogatorily referred to as monkeys by Italian fans all season, leading to the need for a campaign. If you don’t understand the ‘connection’ you simply haven’t been paying attention.

Very fair comment johnb. Article has been amended accordingly.

Peter Siddle in line for shock Test recall in latest Australian squad news

I think it’s a weakness. Colorado have only really broken through this season because Cale Makar is having a rookie season for the ages and they’ve finally put together a decent second scoring line with Andre Burakovsky and Nazem Kadri.

Take a look at the Devils, teams know if you put all your attention into Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri, they just can’t score.

NHL Weekly Wednesdays: Walker, the reckoning and throat punches

I don’t want a Victorian side to fold, I just think that over the next ten years, the financial commitment required to be a competitive AFL side will continue to increase. Couple this with a likely decline or stagnation in TV dollars and it’s likely one of the less popular Melbourne sides gets squeezed out.

My prediction was that, in that scenario, the Suns will step in and try to get their tarnished brand replaced by one with actual history and a connection to the heartland.

Also, I’m from New South Wales.

What the AFL must sort out by the end of the next decade

Edmonton were always going to get it together if they could put some depth scoring around McDavid and Draisaitl, and they’ve got it with James Neal’s surprise renaissance and a good start to the season from Zack Kassian.

They’ll still need to to make some trades to put them in a position where McDavid and Draisaitl don’t have to play on the same line, but I think they can keep it up.

NHL Weekly Wednesdays: Walker, the reckoning and throat punches

I can’t give it to the 2015 Hawks because the rest of the top four that year was remarkably weak. Freo were playing so defensively – everyone knew it wouldn’t stand up in September. West Coast were a surprise packet still finding their feet under Adam Simpson and Sydney got destroyed by injury at finals time.

Winning three in a row is incredible and I am in no way implying they Bradbury’d the flag, but I think their dominance over the rest of the competition in that particular season is somewhat misleading.

Which AFL premiership side was the best this decade?

If I was going to pick a Hawks team I’d have to go there too. 2014 Swans were far and away the best opposition they faced in a grand final and they tore them to shreds.

Which AFL premiership side was the best this decade?

We’ve got two Tests against Pakistan and then three against New Zealand.

Australia's Test attack looks ominous

No draws anymore, they go to a shootout for every game. But, when they still had them, the teams just kept the point they both earned for reaching overtime.

Golden-point bonus points are unfair
