Yeah if they wanted a full Optus stadium picking Morris and Green would’ve gone a long way to doing that I suspect.
Not saying that’s a reason to pick someone, but I suspect a few less WA people will show up to watch the NSW attack, than one of their own bowling thunderbolts.

Yeah agree to disagree – I think he’s looked the least comfortable at test level, but everyone sees things differently.
I’d go for one of the other two – probably Bancroft on form, but could handle Renshaw too.

No my point is that Harris has done nothing to suggest re selection either.
If you are going to suggest Green should be dropped – which I disagree with but it’s understandable, then you can’t also pick a guy that hasn’t been performing at Shield level.

Bancroft played England too, and South Africa away so fairly similar. Renshaw played India in India, but did score his hundred v Pakistan at home.
At test level they are all much of a muchness – which is my point, you have to go off recent shield form and Aus A games – the other two have outperformed Harris.

And yet you are vouching for Harris to open who has a significantly worse average than Green who you are saying hasn’t done enough.
Strange double standards.

I’ll take the one that scores the most runs…

How can a batsman do anything else but score runs v state teams though if there is no opportunity vs international teams. The Sheffield shield is the best we have, and Bancroft has been the best in that over the last 2-3 seasons.

Harris – was in the Ashes squad.

Don’t understand all the people knocking a bloke for scoring a first class ton.
Every player in the top 5 got a start over 40 and had an opportunity to convert it to a big one – only Renshaw did, that speaks volumes for mine.
For me it’s a two way decision – do you value all the Shield form and go Bancroft, or do you value form in Aus A and PM’s XI games – in which Renshaw is the obvious choice.
Both I’m ok with.

Or one of the back to back Sheffield shield winning Western Australian boys?

Marsh's Test career will end in the swamp if Australia pitch him into opener's role: 'It's a possibility'

That’s why they need to stagger it – we can’t really be having 4,5 plus guys retiring all at once.

Johnson doubles down with pressure on ageing Aussie team to perform or perish: Time for ‘a period of dramatic change’

Well for starters let’s look at the 22/23 Shield season:
Bancroft – Ave: 59.06
Renshaw – Ave: 51.66
Harris – Ave: 37.56
This season 23/24
Bancroft – 512 runs at 56.88
Renshaw – 348 runs at 31.63
Harris – 282 runs at 31.23
Test career
Harris: 14 tests Ave of 25.29, HS 79
Bancroft: 10 tests Ave of 26.23 HS 82
Renshaw 14 tests Ave of 29.31, HS 184
There is no tangible evidence that has Harris anywhere near the other two – all of them have poor averages at test level, but Harris’ is the worst. He has played more tests than Bancroft and equal to Renshaw with a worse record than either.
His shield performances over the last two seasons are also well behind the other two, plus he is the oldest of the trio – I don’t really understand what metric has people picking Harris ahead of either of the other two, except for people who seemingly dislike Matt Renshaw or Cam Bancroft for varying reasons – both have significantly better form lines in shield cricket or Rep cricket such as Aus A and PM’s XI to deserve a crack ahead of Harris.
Harris also plays most of his shield home games at Junction oval, which is an easier home venue to bat on than the WACA or the GABBA and yet still averages less.
He shouldn’t even be in the conversation imo.

None of this from Johnson is particularly controversial.
He is right – the youngest player that’ll likely start the first test is Labuschagne at 29, it’s an aging squad.
One way or another we will see a large group of players depart at a similar time – if they can stagger it a bit now, particularly given the weaker opposition we are playing it’s not that bad a thing – however it doesn’t seem the selectors are heading this way – will it all come to a head around the next ashes?

He has no form to back him. Renshaw went on and made 130 – Harris hasn’t done that all year.
Harris should be third in line by quite some distance.
If they pick Harris they may as well stay with Warner – neither have any red ball form to back them.

Really? He’s the worst of the 3 by some distance.
I think Renshaw is probably the best long term candidate, he’s the youngest and the only one with a test century, but then I could also understand if they picked Bancroft based on recent Shield form.
Harris has shown time and time again he isn’t up to it.

Made 100 in the end though – that’s gotta count for something. The top 5 all got over 40 – Renshaw was the only one that went on with it.

Banging down the door? Renshaw makes selectors sit up and take notice in Warner race with classy century

Yeah I think they favour Harris – I can’t for the life of me understand why though?
Bancroft has put the most runs on the board, and Renshaw has done well every time he’s played for Aus A or PM’s XI recently, plus is younger so the better long term option.
I am happy with either Renshaw or Bancroft – Harris is the distant third option for mine.

Would be the biggest kick in the teeth to Bancroft and Renshaw if Marsh was to open ahead of them.
I love Mitch the white ball player, and I think he should captain the t20 side, but I don’t think he should be in the test side, let alone being thrown up as an opening option ahead of guys that have dominated in Sheffield shield over the last couple of seasons.

Marsh's Test career will end in the swamp if Australia pitch him into opener's role: 'It's a possibility'

I can handle Stoinis as a T20 player – but shouldn’t go anywhere near the ODI side.
I still think we have better options though.
Green and Hardie are both better bats than Stoinis, and I’d honestly go Neser over Stoinis too.

Enough talent to fill three sides? How Australian cricket team would look if specialists filled each line-up

Renshaw, being the youngest of the three may be the best way to go if the selectors are looking for someone longer term – whoever they go for needs to be given a good run at it.

Enough talent to fill three sides? How Australian cricket team would look if specialists filled each line-up

Yes and no – you probably want to stagger their retirements rather than losing them all at once.
Given Warner is going this summer, you probably want Khawaja to hang around for another season or two to help the new opener bed in before you bring another one in.
Just think they do have to future proof a little bit – and tests against WI and Pak are good opportunities for that.

Enough talent to fill three sides? How Australian cricket team would look if specialists filled each line-up

I’d have Agar in one of the two white ball sides – if he had of been fit he probably would’ve played a big role in India I suspect.

Except probably not Smith even for ICC events anymore – he should probably be a test specialist only, Warner should be a white ball only specialist now – it’ll prolong both careers.

Enough talent to fill three sides? How Australian cricket team would look if specialists filled each line-up

Oh I agree – I’m not saying he should bat top 6, just that this season it’s his batting that’s gotten everyone talking, not his bowling, which has actually been quite mediocre.

Enough talent to fill three sides? How Australian cricket team would look if specialists filled each line-up

Yeah although I think the timing of that series just sucked – 3 days after the World Cup final?
Garbage.
Wade as captain was a bizzare call but was probably because of the timing – no one else wanted to do it I’d imagine!
