I like the idea in theory but probably the one big issue as has already been mentioned is the fact that a track like Etihad Stadium is higher scoring than say a wet dewy Metricon.

Why it's time to ditch percentage from the AFL ladder

Like some input from a Hawks fan but surely Tom Mitchell or Jaeger O’Meara would be better captain’s than Ben Stratton?

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

Really? Hughes and Duman were both awesome on the weekend. Blakely isn’t a shutdown defender.
You like Lyon, are advocating for players being played out of position.
I’d have him in over Colyer agreed, but Colyer is playing more half forward than midfield. Sam Sturt if fit would be a better option.
Plus I’d almost rather see Luke Valente or Tom North given a crack.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

So in your opinion the only way to support a club is mindless optimism and consistently backing failing coaches just because they are the coach?

A real supporter has an opinion, a real supporter speaks up when they disagree with the direction their club is taking. When you pay money to a club you earn the right to have a say and to demand change.

As Jonboy rightly points out, the majority of the members wanted Lyon out as did the majority of the board which includes multiple past champions. You are in the minority here.

You constantly have a crack at my age and say I’m too young to have a legitimate opinion but the reality is I’ve spent my whole life barracking for this football club, my Dad is a foundation member, I’m a 20 year member, I have as much right as any to express my opinions about the football club I love.

What is poison to a club is someone who just accepts the status quo. You were quite happy watching Lyon destroy our list and culture, I was not. If that makes me a bad fan then so be it.

I do think is that I would like to see Blakely given another chance. I agree with you he is a weapon and will be a good player. Longmuir has however mentioned that a midfield spot needs to become available, currently for whatever reason he prefers Tucker, Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong.
Blakely isn’t a back pocket player, he’ll get his go when a midfield spot opens up.

It’s not Neale but Langdon..

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Ever thought there is more to the Blakely saga than just J-Lo not picking him?
I’d agree with you I’d like to see him picked but blaming Longmuir for destroying his career is pretty immature and ignorant. There is more at play here, that we, the regular supporter cannot see.

As for Freo saving $1m to keep Ross, I’m glad the club took a stand, I’m glad that Alcock and Bell had enough vision to realise the club needed a new direction.
Yep $1m was a steep price to pay but it was worth it to move on and stop stagnating as that is what was happening.

How was I in nappies? I was 15. It wasn’t a great comeback, we didn’t win the game.
Had we kicked straight we might have won and yes we worked out way back into the game, but generally for it to be considered a ‘great comeback’ you have to actually win.

It’s a bit sad that as soon as anyone disagrees with your opinion the first thing you do is attack them and call them ‘not a real supporter’. I am as diehard a Freo fan as you can get, I just have a completely different outlook on Ross Lyon and what he stood for.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Your talking about Freo here, the club hasn’t been around that long, most significant moments in the club’s history, ‘Millenials’ such as myself and AD have been around to see.
We both certainly can remember the entire Ross Lyon era.
The last real good comeback I remember from Freo was a game against Geelong at Subi when Mark Harvey was in charge.

Don’t really understand your reference to the 2013 GF, we lost that game!

We’ve also never been blown off the park once this year. One poor quarter v Port.
With Lyon last few years we got absolutely thumped multiple times, remember the derby last season?, The game down at Kardinia Park where Geelong kicked 23 in a row !

I’m the first to admit we have a lot to improve on still, and there are some players that are lucky to be in the side, but there is a spirit and team fight that I just think was missing under Lyon.

I’m loving the refreshing honesty that we get from Longmuir, it’s far more appealing than Lyon deflecting and speaking in riddles post match.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Hahahahah that’s ridiculous. If we still had Lyon we’d be 0-6.
I don’t think I ever remember a Lyon coached side ever coming back from 6 goals down.
Players actually love Longmuir and want to play for him.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

The tougher punishment will be due to the more extreme injury Darcy suffered.
Whether that’s the right or wrong way of looking at it, Curtis Taylor wasn’t as badly affected by Shiels bump as Darcy was.
I don’t necessarily agree with this being the right way, I think both should cop the same but this is the way the Tribunal grades these things.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Longmire is the last of the Roos borefest dynasty. His footy is out of date.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

If he’s made an impact forward but not in defence why not play him there again? It obviously worked.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

Hahahaha yup, we can only hope we finally see a derby win!
Big congrats on the internship mate.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

Fair enough, I’ll trust your judgement on Steele.
I don’t really know enough about St Kilda players leadership qualities but I would have thought Geary can’t be guaranteed a game, considering some of the young talent you have coming through.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

Absolutely spot on agree regarding Kirk. Kirk was the real mastermind behind Freos rise in 2013-15, not Lyon. Once he left the team fell away quickly. He is a fantastic coach and would be a great replacement for Longmire who to be honest looks like the game has passed him by.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

Don’t get me started on the BBL… Have been watching Sky UK’s coverage of the Eng v WI test series… That’s how a Cricket coverage should be, they concentrate on the game and have knowledgeable commentators.

The entertainment is on the field, not off it. Too much over doing it here in Australia.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Spot on, I can’t stand Channel 7 and all the gimmicks. I’ve switched to Fox now with Kayo and yes it costs money but the quality of the commentary and the pundits are better, they aren’t brilliant but at the very least they do prioritise the footy over the constant narrative.
Stuff like the fanwall is just rubbish.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Absolutely, Port and Brissie are two teams that certainly deserve a lot more exposure.
Come finals time they will both be there.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Seems an odd choice for captain, you kind of have to be a shoe in for best 22. I’d suggest that Geary is borderline best 22 as is Stratton at Hawthorn.
Having said that when I look down St Kilda’s list, they have great young players but no one that screams out Captain to me.
Perhaps Jack Billings?

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

I think the good news for Sydney is that they already have 2 wins on the board. The question for Adelaide is, they’ve played Sydney, they’ve played Freo, where is there win going to come from?

I suspect they will find a win or two particularly once they are back at home but Sydney’s two game buffer may be enough.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

It’s not Ross’ 5th year, it’s Longmuirs first. This is a completely new regime with a completely new game plan.
I can see the development, im just not as one eyed as you and when they are poor, I call them out.

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Sydney are in a world of hurt losing Heeney for the season and JPK for six weeks.
It’s a pity for Adelaide that they already played them round 1, may of been their best chance of finding a win.

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 6

Nope I just think reward teams playing some good footy. I’m not a Blues fan but I think right now with this rolling fixture teams like Carlton, Freo and Gold Coast all probably deserve a bit of exposure to prime time games.
Let’s be honest the prime time FTA offerings this weekend we’re pretty poor.
Friday night was appalling as was Sunday arvo.
