Yes he did but his idea of treating everyone the same may be very different from yours, or at least your intention by the comment. Rennies life’s experience has taught him to appreaciate the various cultures that are uniquely different to his own. He’s learned whats important to an individual as a Tongan, as a Samoan, as European etc, and by knowing those things he knows a bit more about what makes them tick as players, trainers, family people, friends, their religious and cultural importances in life. So in treating them ‘the same’ he’s taking whats important to each and every one of them into account when trying to mould a team.
If five people all love ice cream but each only loves one flavour only there are two ways of treating them ‘the same’. Give them all chocolate ice cream, or give each their own preference because of that background knowledge one has gained from appreciating the background of each ‘individually’.
In the end both models result in ‘an ice cream’ but treating them the same has very different outcomes. And that is what Rennie brings to the table.
He probably has learnings in terms of what it is to be ‘Australian’ and that is his challenge but again, his MO prepares him for that as well.
Rennie well suited to reignite Pasifika pride within Wallabies
He certainly got a lot out of Cruden, in probably his best career years, and SBW, and others. Strong combinations and a rigid belief system typified the two Chiefs wins …before injuries hit them like a convoy of trucks.
Cheika had the Wallabies performing at higher levels than their best Super side and thats where I think Rennie’s success…or not…lies…20% or 40% stronger could be the diff between winning and losing. As a rough guess I’d say the Abs operate anywhere between 30 and 50 better than the Crusaders so if he can get players like JOC to bring that overall level up it could well be enough.
The spiritual third-coming of James O’Connor
Good to see JOC firing again, hope he keeps it up because he’s the type of player Rennie could certainly extract a lot of positivity out of under the right conditions. JOC’s very much a confidence player so much to look forward to.

Yes Muzzo…and the last thing we wanna keep hearing is the Wallabies have no chance…we all know where that leads to… 😂
Bleak Bledisloe hopes a harsh reality for Wallabies fans
So do I. Much of their poor performances were down to poor management and growth from Cheika and lets face it, Oz S Rugby coaching isn’t that great in general and although much of the problem is raw talent not coming through in sufficient numbers to be competitive, part of it is also in how the side is prepared, selected and trained.
In that respect Rennie should make a ‘significant’ difference, of some sort. Whether thats enough to win is another thing but if he can put the side out in a manner that makes them competitive, it gives them an ‘on the day’ chance in any test.

Interesting, so the argument is they can’t have non- neutral refs because of ‘obvious’ favoritism to their own sides, they can’t have home town refs because of obvious ‘perceived’ favoritism towards their own sides… so neutral refs is the remedy for all that.
Fragile lot these refs huh? Seems they obsess with either looking for a team to favour, or obsess with being accused of favouring, or, in the absence of either of those…get ‘cornered’ into reffing a game without any bias at all.
Poor lost souls… 😂
The Wrap: The Sunwolves and Super Rugby’s shame file
Well it’s your interpretation and probably yours alone. I mean if 100 selectors from national teams, the rugby media, panel experts were asked to pick a list of the 10 greatest rugby players of all times I’m guessing all 100 would have Lomu on their list. I somehow doubt all 100 would leave him out saying ‘nope, not for me, a phenomenon, but not a ‘great player’
Yeah… right.

Wasnt sure about the corn but for some reason theres always carrots in there somewhere isnt there? 😂

oh please. He was the greatest ball carrier the game has ever seen by a mile. ‘Not a great player’ come on.
If you went back to the school yard picks of one each till theres none left Lomu would be the first player selected for one main reason. Of any player you would not want him playing for the other side. Before every test he played if the opposition could pick one player from his side 100% of the time Lomu would be it.
Sure SA stopped him, but only because their entire game plan revolved around doing exactly that.
No other player in history commands that level of player power.
Not a great player…laughable.

Don’t need to fly in these days… 😂 sorry…pesky mood…

I’d wager against that. Far too soon to be heaping that sort of accolade on a player. He’s been impressive though not too sure about his straight line pace and for me looks more of a centre future, turns well and reads the situation quickly.
How many promising players in the last ten years have ended up a more complete player than Folau?
Answer…none.

Nah, that was more the sound of reaching, some belching, followed by spurts of last nights corn, carrot and chicken pieces coloring the changing room walls… 😂

Yep, he’s ozzie now….running man icon….

Without all the gizmo’s and gadgets for me the best way a player measured their own fitness, arerobic fitness at least is the speed to recover and go again. Those vital few seconds make all the difference.
Why Warren Gatland is winning the battle of the basics
Yeah after seeing what we have ended up with so do I. Wasn’t inspired by Fozzies appearance on Breakdown this week. Asked how he saw things playing out this year he was vague… I don’t know but… when what was really being asked was… what’s your vision for NZ rugby this year? Show us how excited you are for 2020…
More of the same…mind you, Gats is not one for doing cartwheels in the Razor fashion either but think he would have brought a bit more to the table.
Boshier was certainly good, was looking like pushing up last year as well, one of the best loosies outside the test side.
Why Warren Gatland is winning the battle of the basics
Yeah but its still a good start, especially what looks like a strong Blues side this year and the Crusaders rolling over everyone from last year. They’re slow starters and will get better once they get their combinations (of which they have many) gelling.
I doubt a new coach would have got the Chiefs to this point this early in the season so although its early days they still look promising and they did have a bit of a bad patch that stopped their title chances.
I keep thinking of all sides the Chiefs are going to get more than their fair share of injuries again but overall, Gats has started pretty well.
Why Warren Gatland is winning the battle of the basics
Ha ha, and perhaps when SA joint it the 7 Dwarves? SA would be Happy and we know there’s already a dopey, a bashful, and a sneezy in there somewhere.????
The Wrap: How Super Rugby can help save the environment
Ideally thinking yes but the reality can be very different…the minute you get a 90 point thrashing by the Crusaders everyone says who’s dumb idea was this, as they said at the great idea of the Sunwolves entering. That decision is part of what’s making this comp the farce it’s made out to be.
Will relegation in the north promote rugby in the south?
Oh there would be more than the first time round, as there’s more reason for it. If not same goes for their other two wins, England’s in 03, ours in 2011 even. They’re that type of team. You can never write them off.
A NZ oz japan comp would be a huge drop in quality, with Jap sides getting pummelled where they aren’t held up enormously by imports.
Although the PI trend is continuing the beauty of Super rugby is most players are home based. Japan adds a semi Baabaas feel to it where SH players and coaches often bloat the scene.

Interested in how the Harlequins project Marchant goes. By now will have settled in with the Blue’s bro’s nice and easily. 😊 Don’t know much about him but has a very good highlights reel and not afraid to try anything out of the box.
I think he’ll thrive, while at the same time be a little surprised at the skills and pace of the game here, especially this time of the year on cricket pitches.
Super Rugby Round 1: Whaddya mean it starts this week?
True, but then Ireland had Farrell, supposed the best D coach of the last few years, yet leaked tries all over the place. For me energy and attitude more than defence epitomised Englands semi (something that went missing after climbing the hill) and SA’s final efforts.
Will relegation in the north promote rugby in the south?
Well, theyre number one and world champions so they must be doing something right I guess…
Will relegation in the north promote rugby in the south?
It might well do but the ‘dip in quality’ wouldnt be just that, it could be the dealbreaker. Japan replacing SA and Argie would mean Japanese sides would have to be boosted by either the missing SA and Argie sides, or Oz NZ players…and coaches.
Fact is most sides competing for the top trophies are either SH based, or local plus SH based. NZ and Oz have a heavy PI influence, born or not, where Argie and SA are largely their own players, a rare uniqueness, and that would be sad to see.

Happy belated new year Nick 😊
…Not sure about the analogy though…Rocky was the good guy…. everyone wanted HIM to get back up. 😂
Still think they’ll find a way to nab players but for sure, keeping our own a bit longer, or bringing back players like Piutau has its virtues.
Will relegation in the north promote rugby in the south?
Exactly, and my point above. In my day Samoans and Tongans were often at each others throat, literally in Lomu’s experiences. Even playing rugby in South Auckland schools and clubs you could feel the tension both within and against teams.
I think sport, in particular rugby and League has made a lot of that first liveable early on then normal but now and then the rift is still there. And thats to do with coaches and players bringing cultures together into small spaces where they have to share common goals, they must support each other. NZ coaches spent a lot of time doing that with the immersion of PI’s into the sides in the 80’s and 90’s, as did NZ in communities and activities of all sorts.
Oz are experiencing a trend similar to we did in the late 80s and 90’s, a growing number of PI players filling more and more of the positions in pro rugby. I’ll bet over the last five years the percentage has increased every year.
So your coaching needs to catch up. No longer can an oz coach simply know how to manage a side that is more than 50% PI in terms of what really makes them tick as Tongans, Samoans etc, Rennie does, and has ‘decades’ of experience of doing it.
