Exactly. No complaining or concerns heading to the MCG, just leaving it. Every betting agency in Australia had the Crows winning so the venue wasn’t a worry before the first bounce. It suddenly became unfair during the second quarter when your team started playing like s@!#. You had a two goal lead so what magic or imaginary button was pushed to lose control of the game? It wasn’t bad umpiring, the playing surface, the shape of the ground or the tiger fans outnumbering the Crow supporters. It was a determined Richmond group that wanted it more. The Cotchin decision was the right decision and we all know it
Good article Ben and one I agree with mainly because you’ve pointed out the difficulty for players trying to avoid dangerous contact to an opponents head while competing for a ball at knee level. It’s easy for the experts at home watching slow motion replays 40 times to assume Cotchin intended to hurt Shiel but I’m convinced he didn’t. Cotchin if anything showed more self preservation than Shiel but could have just as easily knocked himself out. No doubt he plays hard footy but he’s no grub. You’ve opened yourself up to those who can’t take their hands off it though.

I can see logic just fine. It’s your logic that isn’t important to me because I think you’re wrong. And as Cotchin looks like he’s good to play that would mean there are a few others who disagree with you as well. Time to move on, for me anyway as it’s now history. Not something they’ll forget that quickly unfortunately. A three test series against England would be fantastic. Never going to happen but it would be great. Maybe a full tour with a few tough midweek games against Thames Valley, Wanganui or Mid-Canterbury to soften the poms up. Those were the days. This current competition has run its course in my opinion

Yeah hard to disagree Rhino that Gust of Wind was a good thing beaten but like you say, that’s racing. It’s all you can say. $20,000 is like loose change to Detorri and connections have their hopes shot in less than a few seconds.

That’s why owners shouldn’t race 10yo horses in Melbourne cups but that’s another story I guess. Congrats to the connections of the winner though and a great ride by a very underrated jockey who has dealt with plenty of knocks in life. The winner is by a renowned sire of stayers including the talented stayer Xcellent so was massively over the odds. Some of those jockeys should give their riding fees to charity in my opinion.
