Considered a closer look at how the match-ups would play out but as we have seen over the course of the year both sets of wingmen, while keeping an eye on their opponent, are more concerned about playing thier own game. The pace of Hill and Smith would worry the Eagles wingmen but I think they can in-turn hurt the Hawks through their ability to accumulate contested possessions.

North Melbourne and Sydney also played in an Elimination Final in 2008 with the Swans running out 35 point winners in Shannon Grant’s last game. The crowd at ANZ that night was just 19,127 but you can expect a much better turnout this Saturday night!

The Dockers are definitely in better shape than the sides listed in the article if they were to fall short. The re-build on the go model that helped Geelong in 2011 (think Duncan, Christianson) Sydney in 2012 (Rohan, Jetta, Reid) and the Hawks post 2008 is the current popular model for top sides. So all the games they have gotten into Taberner, Crozier, Sheridan and Pearce, to name a few, will meant they won’t free fall post the retirements of the greats. What they will find difficult is maintaining that spot in the top once these greats retire and that puts pressure on achieving the ultimate this year.
How will the Dockers define their season?
It is a combination of all those factors and how they all affect the watch-ability of a game. If you can only see minimal games over the Easter break what would you choose?
