AFL season to be reduced over coronavirus fears, but no decision on Round 1 until tomorrow
Yep, Langer needs to be “got”. Has been doing it for years, at club level and Origin. It has been a blight on the game.

Alfie was not passing on messages – he was barking instructions.

It will be interesting to see if the Parrot defends the latest comments from Izzy!
The Wrap: The art of writing the recurring rugby column
I thought Phil Kearns had it exactly right in his post-game analysis when he said that Australian Rugby can only improve by starting with good coaching of basic skills at schoolboy level.
It appears there are Beale supporters and Beale critics in roughly equal numbers. To me, he looks like a rabbit in the spotlight when under the high ball, when about to be tackled and when he is running.
I didn’t buy the “poor me” performance of Cheika in the post match conference.
Six talking points from Wallabies versus England
I find it difficult to comprehend that so many coaches have this stupid concept that penalty counts should somehow be even. If you are being beaten, and falling behind in most of the other stat categories, it stands to reason that you will concede more penalties than your opposition. I await eagerly the day a coach states that he/she was outcoached!

Garry Lyon is irrelevant and does not understand sportsmanship and the bond between indigenous players.

Get your facts right, champ. Might help to read all the reporting before making such ludicrous comments.
Gutsy is calling? I'd ask to speak to Usman Khawaja
I agree. I really like him. He does like the limelight, but it contrasts him with the others. I thought he had a good year (I always watch the umpires having worked about 600 games in the EDFL, the DDAFL, the SQAFL, the CFL, and the SAAFL.) Having said that, the 3 chosen are very experienced and will do a good job, I am sure.
'Razor Ray' misses out as AFL names 2018 grand final umpires
It would be interesting to have another look at the interview of Thompson by Mike Sheahan a few years back on “Open Mike”. At the time, I felt he was being disingenous with his answers, and I am sure the body language experts would have something to say about his behaviour on that occasion.
Media dropping a bomb on Bomber Thompson
I know some junior teams in many codes are allowed to have coaches on the field, but I think the continual presence of Langer right on the Broncos line is taking things way too far. At times last night he was barking out instructions less than 10 metres from the play of the ball. Not much water being delivered.
Broncos blood Haas in thrilling NRL win
How about this “outrageous” suggestion? Simply allow a player to be still eligible for the Brownlow even if they have been suspended. I know the traditionalists will say that the medal is for Best and Fairest, but I think the term “Fairest” is anachronistic in the modern game. If a player commits an offence that the umpire sees that warrants a report, surely they would not be given umpire votes that day.
The MRP was wrong, Dangerfield should have no case to answer
Yes, I believe so, but perhaps not so much as Langer. Should not be allowed for either side.
Queensland is great, NSW is not, Origin is dead. Now what do we do?
You have missed the point, and your extrapolations re North Korea etc are ludicrous. The physios and crowds are not ON the field almost full-time like Langer is. Sure he is allowed to encourage his own team while he is on the field, but I believe it goes beyond the role of the water boy to bark instructions, sledge opposition (even Alfie admits he does that, and even had a bet with JT during a final that he would miss the goal). If the NRL came out and said that Langer and the other so-called “water boys” are allowed to be permanently on the field and can instruct players, then so be it, but imho, it doesn’t look good for the game. Surely there are enough player-leaders who can call out plays, warn about opposition movements etc. BTW, I am a Qld supporter, but not a great fan of Langer. I cringed when I saw the footage of him, sans shirt, leading the beer shower. I bet he didn’t help clean up the mess post game, like the All Blacks do in the sheds!
Queensland is great, NSW is not, Origin is dead. Now what do we do?
Alfie (The Trainer/Waterboy) Langer would have to go close to being best on ground, wouldn’t he? He spends more time on the field than anyone else (other than the refs). He is more on-field coach than waterboy, and I would suggest that this needs to be looked at. At times, he was right behind the players, barking instructions. The AFL changed what could and couldn’t be done by runner and water boys and girls.
Queensland is great, NSW is not, Origin is dead. Now what do we do?
Is anyone else getting tired of seeing Alfie Langer’s continued presence on the field during Bronco and SOO games? Surely, there are rules against a so-called “trainer” being out there directing traffic? The AFL finally cracked down on runners interfering in the play.
Queensland are different, but the result won't be
You forgot to rate someone who was very close to the play all night, directing offensive moves and encouraging the players – Alfie Langer. It is surprising that he does not get a pass directed at him, he is so close.
Get off the field, Alfie!
