People underrate Federer’s serve, but that doesn’t mean it’s better than Sampras’s.

Federer has won most of his majors against player no better than Ivanisevic or Rafter. Against the big 2 of Djokovic and Nadal he’s been dominated in majors (and elsewhere for that matter).

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

It’s one match champ. Sampras was knocked out in the 2nd round of Wimbledon in 2002.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

Nadal already had half a dozen majors and was dominating Federer when he couldn’t defend his title at Wimbledon in 2009.

Cummins had played one Test.

The big test will come when they start to charge admission prices at the ground.

Expanding AFLW faces a test that it will pass with flying colours

I’ll tell you the reason why they are pulling out.

There was a game recently where 17.5k people turned up for the match (good sized crowd), but only 17k watch on TV.

Routinely games on FTA get 20k viewers. I Dream of Jeannie reruns do better than that. Why would anyone pump millions into a league as a sponsor or spend tens of millions on media rights for that kind of return?

Any vlogger with a half decent camera on Youtube can pull in 20k views. You don’t need to fly commentators, crew, equipment, etc around the country to do that.

This is basically the problem for all leagues that aren’t the AFL, EPL, NBA, etc. How do you compete with what’s on Youtube or Netflix or simply apps on people’s phones?

They can’t is the simple answer.

A truly national league like the A-League was probably 40 years too late.

Sponsors come and go, but Hyundai's reported FFA exit a symptom of greater ills

Good on ’em. Great to see women get out there and have a go. Inspiring to all the young girls out there. The AFL has done so much for women’s sport.

Expanding AFLW faces a test that it will pass with flying colours

The Wanderers to their credit have done a great job in getting their ultras into line. No crowd trouble like the bad old days.

Reports: Hyundai to end A-League sponsorship

They love Australia and don’t want to live elsewhere. Best place on Earth.

Why does the A-League keep playing afternoon games in mid-summer?

Langer picking a team that can win because he’s coaching rather than his assistant.

Maxwell and Marsh among four inclusions as Australia name South Africa tour squads

Agreed. Soccer is a winter sport for a reason.

Why does the A-League keep playing afternoon games in mid-summer?

They play for themselves.

Chokers, front-runners, over-achievers: Why Big Bash storylines matter

His batting stance and technique is a joke.

Chokers, front-runners, over-achievers: Why Big Bash storylines matter

In order to choke, you have to be playing for stakes that a meaningful. No-one is choking in BBL cricket. You have to care about the result to choke. The only thing the players care about is that the cheque doesn’t bounce.

I know that the Renegades won last year, I know that the Scorchers have won a few times, Sydney Thunder won once, but I couldn’t tell you when each team won or who they were playing.

None of it matters. The BBL is just something you turn on while making dinner.

If Stoinis is batting or Maxwell is coming in next I’ll keep it on the BBL, but if it’s some run a ball hack struggling against grade cricketers like George Bailey I won’t even keep it on as background noise.

I watch it for individual batsmen. Couldn’t care less about the teams. Unfortunately the league is massively lacking in star power compared to the early seasons.

Chokers, front-runners, over-achievers: Why Big Bash storylines matter

He puts no more stress through his body than Djokovic who continually slides on his feet and bends like he’s made of rubber. Let’s not forget either that Nadal has congenital problems with his feet. If you’re feet aren’t 100%, then your knees, hips, back won’t be either.

Federer will make it to 39 playing at a high level avoiding significant injury throughout his career despite playing a style no more gruelling than Sampras who finished at 31.

Courts were slowed to compensate for improvements in racquet and string technology.

Players are just as dominant on serve today on grass as in the serve volley era.

Thanks mate. Great to see you writing articles.

Bias is in the eye of the beholder

I hate teams or players, but it’s nothing to do with bias it’s just good, sound judgement.

GWS mollycoddle Greene, they fudge attendance numbers, their uniforms are awful, they’ve achieved nothing despite the massive advantages handed to them by the AFL, they don’t represent anything or anyone. They’re just a cynical marketing exercise concocted by marketing types that call themselves “influencers” on social media.

Bias is in the eye of the beholder

Fed most endorsed, has the most fans.

Kournikova probably holds those records in the women’s game.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

Thiem is a very good player. Wasn’t that far off Nadal at Roland Garros last year. He’ll be a tough proposition for anyone on clay.

Djokovic is a class act. The Wimbledon crowd were willing him to lose last year. It was an utter disgraceful way to treat one of the ATG’s.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

I think Laver is the GOAT as well.

But if Djokovic ends up with more majors than his two greatest rivals who are sitting on 39 majors between them, then he’s best.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

I’m not so sure.

On grass and at the US Open he would have had an edge, but at the same time all the big servers on tour would be serve volleying as well.

And let’s not forget that even today that’s it’s the big servers that dominate Wimbledon and make it deep into the tournament.

It’s just that Djokovic and Nadal — two of the best returners of all time — are the outliers. In the same way Agassi was an outlier as one of the best returners of all time.

Nadal would have been just as dominant on clay, and daytime finals on rebound ace with faster balls and bouncier court probably would have benefited Nadal massively.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

Federer gets home crowd advantage everywhere he goes and against every player on the tour.

Yet he’s still only won 20 majors. Nadal who isn’t universally loved and more mocked than anything has 19, and Djokovic who is outright hated by English and Australian crowds (apart from the Serb contingent) has 17.

Still the King! Novak Djokovic outlasts Dominic Thiem in epic Australian Open final

Nadal was at his physical peak but prone to injury. The Nadal of say 2009 was explosive.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

It’s major titles first and foremost. Everything else can be used in the event of a tie.

If Nadal and Federer finish equal I’d look at head to head and M1000 titles.

Weeks at number 1 can be skewed by luck with injury. Nadal has had little luck with injury while Federer has had a lot.

The GOAT debate has become a Djoke

Most Aussies are myopic Fed fans because they only watch tennis twice a year – Australian Open and a little bit of Wimbledon.
