im going to keep my comment short and sharp.
The AFL needs to even out the draw.
It’s either Divsions/conferences or promotion relegation.
or its create more teams, say 25 and every team plays everyone once.
personally the first one looks a lot more realistic in this era.
Explain how one would work?
Flawed expansion teams mean its time for an AFL conference system
It seems pointless to have a reserves league not including the 2 western australian and south australian teams.
Maybe there will then be 3 major leagues, all adopting to the NEAFL structure. VFL and TSL is one league split into two conferences and WAFL and SANFL combinde into to conferences.
in my view if the AFL isn’t prepared to make a complete reserves league then scrap it.
Time for AFL to resurrect the rezzies
NEAFL NORTH: 1 Darwin/Alice Springs, 4 Gold Coast and 5 Brisbane
NEAFL EAST: 5 ACT (if you include Queanbeyan), 4 Sydney
Time for AFL to resurrect the rezzies
not only was it a goal, 3 or 4 goals followed as a result and thus momentum shifted. but i do agree with you. admitting it was an error isnt good enough, the goal should be deducted and fremantle should recieve a point, because they kicked a point which was then taken off their score and a set shot from point blank range was rewarded.
AFL admits interchange error in SCG clash
Nathan Elsworthy fromn the killarney vale bombers, who is an exceptional umpire and this year became a rookie, made the call, but it was believed to be a communication error and it was a minor paperwork error, but was made a major error.
AFL admits interchange error in SCG clash
Yes, but they did have all the best mature aged and youngsters from the SANFL, which was reguarded as the second best comp in Australia, close the VFL.
GWS kids do Western Sydney proud
Played very well, if it wasn’t for the swans kicking away in the third, it could have been a lot closer.
They will win at least 2 or 3 games this year maybe 4, their hardball-winning, attacking, run off half back and defensive pressure will win them games. Also backed by superstar coaches and on-field coaches. Remembering Scully (no.1 draft pick in 2009), Brogan (premiership player in 2004), Power (premiership player in 2001, 2002, 2003) and Patton (no.1 Draft Pick last year)
GWS kids do Western Sydney proud
This is an unfair comparison.
Gold Coast United and Gold Coast Titans, oh and Blaze are all established teams/clubs.
Gold Coast Suns, will take atleast 2 more years to be able to compete with the best teams.
Titans are in $35million debt and struggle on and off field
United struggled on and off field and had barely 400 members from a city of close to 600,000 and averaged less than 4,000 to games.
Suns have a 5 year, 10 year and 20 year plan in place $200Million to get the club up and running, averaged something close to 19,000 to games last year, had 14,000 members and finished last, only becasue port adelaide won their last game, Gold Coast had a team filled with youngsters.
The Gold Coast: a city of sporting failures
Great result for the Giants and their fans.
If the swans didn’t kick away in the third, it could have been a lot closer. The Giants went to sleep, and i think everyone expected the Giants to stop in the second half, due to their young list, but them to with-stand the swans belting them in the last and to end-up winning the last quarter is extradinary for the young Giants.
For the people out their who have already wrote the Giants off, to not win a game at all this season, lets, see if they still believe that.
Giants have a good list, a good hardball-winning, defensive-pressure style play and a great coaching staff, playing and not playing. Go Giants, they will no doubt win a game, probably 2 -3 maybe 4 at the most.
Swans win by 63 points, GWS not disgraced

2012 AFL ladder prediction, 9th to 18th
1. Yes
2. Richmond, maybe.
3. Niether, it will keep them around about the mark, they won’t fall and they won’t rise.
4. Yes, they will push for top 8
5. maybe 1 or 2 at the most.
Your ladder, is different, but interesting.
Predictions, pretty mainstream, Sam Mitchell for the brownlow, is optimistic.
Five key questions ahead of the 2012 AFL season
Will be attending this great day in history, no doubt that Izzy will bring people to the game. Hope he plays like he did against Hawthorn, Launceston in the 3rd quarter.
Folau cleared for AFL debut
Love it, i remember the ad in 2005, was very good, but in this day and age, it would be considered terrible. In a league of their own, Shipping up to boston was perfect for the times, but this one, will fit perfectly for now, then there will be a better one in a few years which will be perfect for the future.
AFL back in black with AC/DC for season 2012 ad
I only hope for more regional footy next year, still too many at elite AFL venues.
Lets not forget the The AFL Community Camps as well, which are growing the game, in more ways then many.
AFL leads the way in country Australia
Gold Coast are a lot better looked after and have a long term plan in place, they have plenty of youngsters yet to blossom and veterans that still have some good footy ahead of them.
Are the Gold Coast Suns any better than the Brisbane Bears?
This is great! Not only Sydney or western sydney but nsw and the rest of australia and the world.
The big thing i took out this article was the fact that the AFL has planned for the next 20 years, and that the NRL only has a year by year planning process. This means the AFL and australian football is sticking by their planning and not going anywhere and have invested huge somes of money into the area and are doing everything they can to win the west. whereas the NRL and rugby league are doing nowhere near as much as australian football is and thats why rugby league has never really taken off outside of NSW and Qld.
AFL growing in western Sydney
40,000 can easy be achieved, i think 50,000 would and could be achieved.
GWS, AFL hope for 40,000 to Giants' debut
Clive Palmer suggested that in 2009, that the AFL’s newest franchise, entered 2 years after, wouldn’t last to 2015. GCU didn’t finish three years in the league. 400 members compared to GC Suns 14,000 last year and exceeding 10,000 this year as of a week ago. GCU averaged 3,500, whereas GC Suns averaged 18,000+ and finished last.
Football Australia and FFA could turn into the super league war of soccer, if their not careful.
Football Australia preventing, not causing, FFA reform
On paper their an average team, but on the field they are capable of anything. Thats the bloods spirit. Thats what wins them games, Geelong Kardina Park end of season, remember?
Im not liking this talk about the swans, we usually sneak under the radar and it takes the media up until the last few rounds to mention us, even in the paper on monday they said we’d finish 6th. When we won the flag, snuck into 4th, lost to west coast, scrapped past geelong, push aside st. kilda in the last quarter and edged past west coast, they had us to finish last.
On another note, there are a few players who could face the sack, Jesse White, Dennis-Lane, Jarrad Moore, Daniel Currie, Mike Pyke, all need to improve significantly. White had a gun first year, then fell away, back-up ruck was the best he could do last year, Dennis-Lane, isn’t tough enough or hard enough at the footy, Moore has been very up and down, but can fit in the team, Currie hasn’t done anything, and this is absolutely his last chance to shine, Pyke can’t beat seaby for second ruckmen, forward this year could be the go.
2012 AFL season preview: Sydney Swans
There’s no doubt that these new teams will be very good teams in 5 or 6 years but meanwhile other teams are enjoying beating them all over the park, they’ll soon dread the fact they have to face either one of these two teams.
My guess is once it all evens out and has been fairly even for a few years, we’ll be looking at expansion and more overseas games and hence, we’ll be back to square one.
One-sided games will soon end: AFL chief
I strongly agree with this article, well read.
I personally thought the AFL were very soft with playing regional games. out of 18 9 were regional.
AFL out of touch with regional Australia
C’mon guys you can’t jump on the bandwagon now.
The swans have been the most consistant team in 10-15 years, they said we’d finish last when we won the flag.
Personally i love being underdogs year after year, lets stick to the status quo and keeping writting us off.
