“Rugby League has Lang Park, Union has Ballymore, Aussie Rules has the Gabba.”
Rugby league shares Lang Park with the Reds and the Roar, Aussie Rules shares the Gabba with Queensland Cricket. Of the three named only Union owns its own venue, Springfield being on a long term lease from the City of Ipswich, while the Gabba and Lang Park are owned by Stadiums Queensland.
Ive always wonder why Aami Park which is home to 3 Aleague, 1 rugby league and 1 rugby union side dont have the same turf issues as Suncorp.
Underfunded and disrespected, football in Queensland needs a new home - and the solution is at Perry Park
No but what they do have that no other code seems to is a willingness to co-invest in major infrastructure – including the Showgrounds, Blacktown Oval and Stadium Australia. And then sign long term usage contracts backed by the league. (this also happened at Carrara and Springfield in QLD, the MCG and GMBHA in Vic, and to a much lesser extent Adelaide Oval, and proposes to invest millions in the Hobart stadium)

And the AFL invested 10m in the 65m showgrounds reno. Its funny how you left that out.

a ground. singlar. And Leichardt council noted that they didnt ask for the ground in any case.
Underfunded and disrespected, football in Queensland needs a new home - and the solution is at Perry Park
Well thats one for the ages. The AFL had nothing to do with Queenslands bid for the Olympics or Victoria going for a REGIONAL commonwealth games.

“For all the talk of spectators wanting modern facilities, sport in Australia needs to face up to an uncomfortable truth – the vast majority of ticket-buyers are now only interested in attending ‘premium’ events.”
the NRL just posted its best season crowds ever. The AFL continues being the AFL. NBL crowds are up. A-league womens crowds are up by miles. The first cricket test crowd was the best ever for Pakistan in Perth…..
Imn not sure that this is an uncomfortable truth for sport as it is for certain sports.
“But with the Western Australia government having spent approximately $1.8 billion of taxpayer dollars on building Optus Stadium, it was interesting to see it four-fifths empty when Nathan Lyon claimed his 500th Test wicket as the Aussies wrapped up a routine victory.”
I mean yeah, but its not like almost another million didnt attend AFL games at the venue this year.
With so much festive football to celebrate, will anyone turn up?
You realise that wasnt even a consideration when the build contract was signed in 1997
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
I suppose theres a reference to this somewhere, because my understanding is thats not the case after 2025.
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
I think this is mostly true.
Worth noting that Oracle Park was the first stadium in the MLB to be built without public funding since 1962,
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
You literally started off not doing that yourself.
Alkl ive said is that the upgrades to Melbourne Stadia will cost less than the Gabba rebuild.
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
Ballymore is literally owned by the Queensland Rugby Union. One of the few major venues in Queensland not owned by Stadiums Queensland.
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
For most of the year this applies to most cities. the city buys sporting events…like this isnt something done by every major city in the country. And well practiced internationally.
That the EPL, NFL and NBA teams have done very well for themselves internationally is undeniable – but they are still domestic competitions even with world wide popularity.
Taxpayers foot the bill EVERYWHERE especially in the United States, less so in the UK, but still true in some places, and public space apropriation?? what does thate even mean
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
not really the point.
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
Its likely also to do with Melbourne being the host to internationally recognised events such as the F1 GP, MotoGP, Australian Open, and Melbourne Cup, as well as having 9 AFL teams generating one of the highest average attended comeptitions in the world.
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
The MCG is due for an upgrade to the Southern Stand about that time, and Docklands upgrades will be finished well before that. Aami will be due for an upgrade about this time as well. And all will cost vastly less than the Gabba rebuild combined.
by 2030 Melbourne is also predicted to be the most populated city in the country…so i mean you can ignore it if you like because it doesnt have the right shaped venues for internationals, even if that has never stopped people attending matches….
Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup
Did the AFL really do that though – given they didnt build the venue at Docklands, or is this the same principle the Vic Gov used that was behind Marvel not being allowed to exceed its 56,000 capacity even though it was replacing a 77,000 seat venue….
The VicGovernment operates a stepped stadium system – Aami for matches up to 30,000, Marvel for matches up to 56,000 and the MCG for matches up to 100,000. Each is utiilised all year round by at least 5 different domestic professional teams.

Mate ive seen posts of yours that completely invented an extra 250-500m in stadium construction costs based on literally nothing. At least mine come direct from consultant reports to the TasGov
Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
Carrara was completely rebuilt from the ground up. Literally.
The showgrounds had a significant upgrade.

I didnt say TV didnt matter. I did say that attendance matters. And it does, especially to the clubs.
And if you really paid attention to COVIDs impact on finance, youll have noticed they all tanked,.
Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
Its what every state government does these days. Its also specifically noted in the ongoing cost of operating the stadiums.
Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
Do tell me more because its its categorically correct.
Total AFL HQ revenue last year was 944m. Even without the grant it was still $870m
Broadcast revenue last year was $412m (including 16m in contra).
Source: AFL annual report 2022.
Do the maths please.
Club distributions (ex Adl and Port who havent reported) were 277m
Club revenues from Memberships and gate were 281m

Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
Much depends on the deal the team gets at the stadium for a start. The Stadium itself will likely pocket signage and catering and corporate box revenues with a percentage going for to the team – as happens almost everywhere else in the AFL.
All teams pay stadium hire fees and match costs. Including the WA teams who paid rent to the WAFC at Subiaco despite being owned by them. The Suns pay fees to Stadiums QLD despite being the managers of Heritage Bank Stadium.
The business case says the stadium could see up to
“123,500 overseas and interstate visitors” each paying just under $1000 per stay into the economy.
Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
Once again, you can say its only the AFL all you like, but it will absolutely be used for the BBL at the very least.
The Stadium itself doesnt have to be profitable. It just needs to generate enough direct and indirect economic impact on the states revenues.
Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
which is funny given that the AFL was the prime negotiator responsible for getting the SANFL and the SACA together to get the Adelaide Oval over the line in the first place.
Tasmania doesn't need a new stadium - shame on the AFL for forcing us into building one
Take the stadium funding out of the equation and tell me what the gap is.
Stadium funding has exactly zero to do with participation.
