Yer I think he is a Carlton supporter. This is management holding out for best deal possible knowing that they can get a little more based on his importance. May be looking for a longer contract. I am guess he is being offered 2 but they want 3-4. I can’t see him leaving.

Still got the Blues: Reviewing Carlton's 2014 season

Someone that can hit targets and kick goals when presented with the opportunity. Does Hawthorn have a defensive forward? They have 6 guys at all times that are capable of kicking goals. Defense is a combined effort

Problem I have with Ellard is he can’t hit targets and don’t see him in our best 22. We should not even contemp[late drafting Higgins. Injury prone and soft

I would like to see Walker back up forward. For me, a forward line of Casboult, Waite, Henderson, Menzel, walker and either Garlett or a resting midfielder would be ideal.

Yer if Waite does go to North, then they hope he doesn’t get injured or would look veryt silly. To me, North are no better than Carlton. We had injuries to key players and they only had Wells really. Lucas and McInnes are gone for mine. Also Cachia may be delisted as a rookie. The key is guys like Yarran, Thomas and Menzel to improve and add outside run.

Interesting point. Whatever the system, need to be able to maximise Rooney, RVP, Mata, Di Maria and Januzaj.

United need an Angel and need it badly

If he signs, I see them playing a 4-4-2. Not nsure if the 3-4-1-2 system is working at the moment and need to reinforce at the back. May also look at a 4-3-1-2, but would need a beast in central midfield for this to happen

Garlett and Robinson are going nowhere at their age and what they can offer when playing their best football. Malthouse will get the best out of them next years when they realise that they are on their last chance.Waite will likely want to stay at Carlton and depends on the deal

3 Blues who could be black and white in 2015

Maybe he needs his own series of the Batchelor.

Wanted: A girlfriend for Rory McIlroy

The reason I wrote it was due to stories that were in the paper and also a lot of discussion from supporters of Melbourne clubs who propose rediculous trade options. The simple fact is that we think that GWS are just going to be a feader club to everyone one else, when in fact, they are going to build a very sttrong playing list no matter what. If clubs want what they have, then they need to give up something just as valueable to get it. Are clubs going to have the cohooners to do so?

Know when to fold 'em: GWS hold the cards in a trade battle

Lets be honest. Vickery doesn’t seem a very smart man and considering this is the second time he has hit someone in the face this year, anger management may be a good idea. What I didn’t like is the guilty plea discount. This is a man who purposely hit a man in the head to inflict damage. The end outcome should not matter as the intent in this case is all that matters. The wrong message was sent last night. The AFL should have been strong and given no discount and even increased its suspension due to a prior offence.

Vickery hard and tough? Try stupid

I actually wrote an article a bit over a month ago that the GWS midfield as a collective will be better than Gold Coast. Now there is much to play out and the Gold Coast talent may be better in the long run, but as a collective unit, GWS I think will be better. There is no one man that is relied to lead and if you think about it, GWS are better in all conditions. Bennell and Martin don’t handle the wet well, wher as GWS love the tough conditions.

Gold Coast minus Gary Ablett equals GWS

Don’t forget Hrovat, Dahlhouse, Libba and Wallis are all under 21 years of age. Stringer is the one that will surprise. If you track him to Dangerfield, the similarities will be very close. He needs 1-2 bog off-seasons to work on fitness and will be a gun on-baller/forward. The broken leg set him back a couple of years. They should just recruit forwards/backs this year or look at trading for one. Bright future ahead no doubt

Bulldogs' big pups will soon become top dogs

I went to school and know of one of the countries best sprinters and he quit due to the lack of funding and that to make a living is extremely difficult unless you have significant financial backing. Also if you are not successful, there is no payment.

The demise of Australian running since 2000

He wasn’t named Baby Fed for no reason. Would love to see still frames off both wings and movement patterns. Would be pretty close to being the same. The courts I don’t think are different. Raonic is naturally a good server and so is Kyrgios. Still don’t think Djokovic is playing great, hence why I think Dimitrov can beat him. Has come to the net the most of any player which shows his agresssion and disctating points

Wimbledon 2014: Men's semi-finals preview

I think Federer will be able to combat the Raonic serve. He is one of the best at returning serve. Dimitrov and Djokovic will be a beauty. Dimitrov looks at home on grass and Djokovic isn’t playing great tennis. Would love to see Federer against Dimitrov

The sky is not falling in the AFL

That’s the point. We have so many ‘media’ people all trying to be the king and influence people and their views. If there was only positive media about the game, would be interesting to see where it would be at.

The sky is not falling in the AFL

Seems pretty good to me.

The sky is not falling in the AFL

I would say no. What needs to happen is umpires need to start applying the rules correctly. The number of times a player is tackled and has had prior opportunity but is not penalised is far too many. The number of times a player simply throws the ball or does not dispose of it correctly is pathetic. Also umpires need to start rewarding blatant free kicks. Last night Travis Cloke clearly pushed Jamison in the back and there was no free kick awarded and then Collingwood kick a goal. What a load of rubbish. Penalises teams far too much. Umpiring standards need to lift and then there way be less congestion. In addition, throw it up quicker.

AFL's tackling rules made simple

Fair point that he hasn’t played all games, however every game he has played, he has been top 3 player. The games he didn’t play increase his importance to the fortunes of GWS. If he continues his form for the entire season, the number of top quality games he plays will be equal to anyone.

His champion data ranking points are phenomenal for a ruckman. Lowest score of 112. Take the Richmond game and he would be the highest ranked player on average.

I think this best sums it up “But, evidenced by the Giants’ better efforts when he is fit, Mumford’s monetary value per game – another thing measured by Aphex – is higher than others on the list.”

The mark of a player is their ability to make others better and Mumford does that more than any other player.

Mumford: The Giant MVP

We have been somewhat suduced by Gold Coast’s midfield and rightly so. Right now, they are better. However, when you look closely at GWS, the numbers are scary. Treloar is equal with Prestia, Whitfield has shown that he is going to be elite and already is one of the best kicks in the competition. Dylan Shiel is going to be a special player with his brute strength around the contest. Josh Kelly is already being touted as a Brownlow medallist and Devon Smith has the ability to be a small forward and outside midfielder. Callan Ward will only develop further as a leader and player. Their midfield (if they keep them all) will be the envy of the competition and the amount of ball into their tall forwards will be hard to stop.

GWS midfield gives them the edge on Suns

I would more say they were trying to limit any damage Collingwood could muster and keep it as low scoring as possible to be in the game for as long as possible and then be able to make the most of the opportunities they had in a short period. Unfortunately, they made poor decisions and turned the ball over. In the end, Collingwood’s last quarter was what Melbourne hoped they could do at some stage. I will say, would rather see 61-28 than a blowout like in previous years and it be 140-60. That isn’t a contest.

AFL teams must learn to love defence

I agree with you. All I am saying is that if it was another team, they may have only conceeded 2 goals. 2 of his goals came about due to mistakes, so if they were not made, he wouldn’t have got those opportunties. The competition is so tight that everything counts after 120 minutes

AFL teams must learn to love defence

I regards to Monday’s clash, I don’t think either coach wanted it to play out like it did. However when both teams make skill errors, it makes the defence look better than it really was. If you make a skill error prior to getting it inside 50, it limites a scoring opportunity and gives the opposition a chance to go inside 50. Friday nights match was a perfect blend between attack and defence, however if Carlton was able to limit Hawkins in the second quarter, they probably win. It is those periods where good teams can limit the damage done
