Hawthorn absolutely smashed you on your home deck. They failed to beat Melbourne who had many of their top young guns out. Hard to argue with that form. On paper, in their next 5 games, they could realistically fall to 4-8, maybe even 3-9, which would rule them out of finals. This is where I am coming from in writing this article.

Rarely does a coach not named Clarkson stay at a club this long and stay at the top of their game the entire time. He’s not the worst, but he simply is no longer a GOOD fit for the club, which is why he needs to go

He just simply hasn’t evolved, rarely does a coach not named Clarkson stay at a club this long and stay at the top of their game the entire time. He unfortunately has fizzled out, there appears to be no gameplan and that is what at the end of the day will get him sacked.

The on field ref should not be giving a verdict, plain and simple. It has too much effect on the eventual bunker call and if you have a call on field, why do you need the Video Ref? The bunker has become a crutch for the Refs. They’ve become lazy, where almost every try is sent upstairs when it’s clear that they’ve put it down legally. The whole system needs a complete overhaul.

All they need is one. They need a Ben King like figure to stay and set a new precedent. Show his confidence that the club is going somewhere, giving the other young guns the confidence to also stay.

Hopefully they can do something, because at the moment, they just aren’t financially viable. The comp would benefit more from them sticking around though. The sooner we have a 20 team league, the better the pay is for everybody, officials and players alike.

Harsh, but sadly for Gold Coast, a totally not unfair statement. They have played with little to no heart in the past and they need it to change if they ever have a future.

Don’t think any coach ever signs for 5 whole years as a MINIMUM, you could get him for 3 with an option for him to extend an extra 2 or leave the contract in order to pursue the Tassie expansion, with the latter most likely being the option hed take unless he’s winning flags left right and centre.
