1. It was not an attack 2. The rules did change 3. Legally dubious to make any restrictiction like that uncontestable without cba approval 4. When and why was the afl expected to make this change before this incident? also the rule where any contact with the head no matter context becomes suspendable makes speckies illegal, would make players hesitant to tackle in congestion, and running back with the flight of the ball into a pack all of them would have to go too

COMMENT: Angus Brayshaw's retirement isn't Brayden Maynard's fault - it's the AFL's

wrong…. the afl went in to fight for the suspension when the MRO nearly threatened to resign if they suspended him and they still did, it was overturned at the tribunal, and if the afl had gone over the tribunal’s head they would have gotten sued in an actual court and lost because the terms of the cba which govern player suspensions are very clear on this. same for both maynard and cripps where’s your head at mate

yeah I get that it comes down to two different metrics in my mind, games won vs premierships won. I don’t have any data back this up but life is just better for me when the pies are up and about, collingwood has lost more grand finals than anyone else but for the 6 months before all those losses it was fun the fans were entertained and you cant really be ashamed of it like you feel when a team is awful. its a trade off not perfect but I’ve been happier more years because of collingwood than sad even in and 2012 and 2018

'Dysfunction': The big four's transition to the AFL era

yes but roos was part of establishing a professional culture at all levels of the club which is something all these team do/have struggled with witch are isolated to the afl era

'Dysfunction': The big four's transition to the AFL era

Nup, doesn’t stick in my mind really

'Dysfunction': The big four's transition to the AFL era

Pete the sad thing is in my life time I have never understood the rivalry that the two teams have, carlton and collingwood haven’t been competitive at the same time in my time on this earth they’re just a team with annoying fans I have no reason to hate carlton

'Dysfunction': The big four's transition to the AFL era

I did You didn’t engage with it News corp owns the largest newspaper in Adelaide and owned 50% of the NRL you don’t think they would have wanted to give the nrl the page space if the NRL had made any effort to be relevant in adelaide post rams?

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

yeah but you don’t think that has something to do with the lack of league advertising in melbourne?

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

too much money in them for them to fall on their ass unfortunately, its much more likely for a stratification of cricket between tests and t20 with ODI left in the middle to die and australian cricket will suffer because we’re weird in the global community and tests out perform t20 here

'Hitting a ball over a fence is boring': Here's what's wrong with T20 cricket

Nine had Nine now when the contracts were done last time and they had stan, remember that’s why they took the 30 million they cut from their RL contract that year and handed it to RA to broadcast union. competition was their just not the desire to broadcast a limited product and stan has been around since 2015 yeah paramount is new but thats it

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

St george Illawarra is the stupidest shotgun wedding of a plan that fails to do anything but divide a teams time between two markets and damage any chance at success

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

Bollocks they have. people in redcliffe already consume NRL, market growth is a product of capital, market maximisation is a product of time as much as capital heartland needs to be taken care of not catered too

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

yeah, it does. More money in SE queensland than tasmania. and the AFL has the money to make it work. Plus it’s not like tasmania is not currently consuming AFL. AFL’s already getting most of the money it can from tassie

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

as Gus Gould said support teams with a cradle to grave mentality you have to do it or you will always fail

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

No, you have to make markets care about you by advertising, if you launch a product but never advertise it, it’s not the consumers fault that no one has heard of it

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

why? why is perth the holey grail of RL? its been an AFL city for years. The NRL failed to advertise the game in the city that attends sport the most in the country, Melbourne, and yeah storm gets good attendance by NRL standards but hot damn the storm should be an attendance juggernaut and they’re not. why? The NRL fails at advertising and only fishes where it has fished before, never tests new fields, never wants to be bold.

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

yeah seeing as they play all there home games at optus lets not stress regional factors of Freemantle hell geelong’s not that regional anymore

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

successful for who? the ownership sure. the game that’s a lot more debatable

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

you can’t “take the game to the fans” you bring the fans to the game. Green Bay Packers are an excellent example of this they pull thousands of people into the town every game day. I strongly believe that the melbourne public transport system is the reason the AFL gets such high attendance. people can get to the games cheaply, not necessarily quickly granted. TV and public Transport are how you engage the public not taking the game to them

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

yes and believe it or not you are not the target demographic of australian media the target demo is 15-40 year olds that spend money that’s it that’s the growth

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

I mean the Gold coast metro area has a larger population than the whole state of tasmania it does make sense that tassy hasn’t happened yet. should happen soon hopefully now that the north south tassy divide seems to have calmed down and there’s political support for it from the tassy government

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

“the media spread lies” bollocks they do. This is the NRL not a left wing politician, hell the largest media company in australia used to own 50% of the NRL don’t think they were going to be trashing their own product in the papers out of malice. They may have misreported somethings and not cared about it. that’s not what keeps rugby league unpopular in AFL states. It is the lack of investment by the ARL and NRL.

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

because rugby league doesn’t invest in 4 of the 6 states you’d be hard pressed to find nrl advertising in melbourne and i imagine forget it in SA, WA, and TAS. My mate born and bread in tassy whos now a storm fan and a storm member didn’t know that league existed until he moved to melbourne

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

except you now its in the first line of the article and you have already read it????

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league

unqualified sure, nonsensical definitely not. dude they’re well thought out opinions I could totally be wrong but the deal looks like good evidence I was right. To me that was the point of the article

The V'landys mentality is everything that's wrong with league
