I can accept the cards, think barnes was mostly fair, if not a bit more lenient towards the boks. I dont place the loss on him or cane. I do place it on the TMO though. He blatantly went back 5 phases, when the rules only permitted 2 phases ago for the overturned try for Aaron smith.
That is the most egregious call of the night. it was totally unnecessary for the TMO to interject himself like that. I don’t think he got the red card upgrade right either, but whatever. I can live with that interpretation, but cannot live with the blatant interference.

agreed. It was an absolute joke that the best player was not rewarded the highest individual award. I am a carlton supporter so i say this without any bias, but gary ablett and dane swan had much better seasons. I would even say lenny hayes, goddard, pendlebury, and hodge were better standouts in their games, but due to the current system, didnt even get close on votes.
Judd is an exceptional player, but did not deserve to be name the leagues best player this year.
i have always been a fan of the voting system used in the NBA. i stand to be corrected, but i think they use a panel of 25 voters made up of sportswriters / broadcasters / ex players etc, and one of those 25 is the collective vote of the fanbase which counts as one vote.
Seeing how AFL media is made up of ex players, coaches, and people in the industry, surely the league could appoint a pretty decent in the know panel to make up the votes. Thow in the refs as one vote, the GMs or presidents as another, and you would have a pretty diverse collective of voters to decide who is the MVP.
The fans would get their say, the media theres, the players, the refs, and coaches/presidents. as equal and unbiased as you can get right?
There is a reason michael jordan won the award five times, why lebron has won it twice already, the system works. and it rewards the best individual every year.

what do u base that prediction on cookie? on current form SA dont like capable of beating NZ, and the french rarely play well away from home. I would doubt they would buck the trend next year.

in the current 4 game format, it is unlikely in the near future australia have a good enough team to trump the ABs in three tests in one year.
Also, given that NZ will win more often then not on neutral venues, and almost never loses at home, it would require AUS to win 2 times at home, and least once on the road which is something they havent done in nearly ten years against the blacks.
So its feasible, that australia are further away from recovering the bledisloe because of the way it is structured. is that the point u were trying to make BAY35?

just going back to a conversation earlier in the piece, how a lot of the stats and analysis in footy is about the offense and neglects the defense.
Be good to know something like this : Collingwood averages 12.12 in defense @ 50% Opponent FG with team totals of 50 turnovers & avg 60 tackles per game.
if theys had something to that effect for TEAM stats – it would only be a matter of time before they create a way to measure the indiviudals as well!
its very hard to do with footy though, you look at fletchers defense, and it was great, but only reads as 1 tackle??

for example – collingwood only allow an average of 78 points per game at 48% accuracy (they are made up btw)

during the super 14 season it was commented on that NZs main players were considered behind it, out of form, and shadows of their former selves. Weepu was overweight, ineffective, and was coming of the bench for wellington. Joe rocokoko was slow, not the same player he was, as was mils muliana. Dan carter had a less then average super 14 and was rated behind cooper & steyn in best 5/8s for the comp. Even mccaw was said to be less effective then previous years, and probably past his best.

G henry has used the same cattle he has had for the most of the last 4 years to instill belief, developed their skills, got them working together as a cohesive unit to form the beast they are.
Not long ago nz couldnt take a kickoff, hold their throws in lineouts, or even score trys! He has adapted their entire gameplan & completely dominated SA & AUS this year.
A good coach can adapt to the environment, the laws, and the changing dynamics of the game (PDV anyone?) and he can most certainly adapt to his players.
Deans has failed to get the most out of his players. he has failed to improve their deficiency’s. How is it NZ have improved so much from last year, and AUS havent?
