During my young days, I recall many old timer talking about that test against WI, I think it was a matting wicket.
Its a piety that Fazal never played a test in Aus, he was selected for the 1947-48 tour with India, but he had already made up his mind that his future would be with Pak.

Sir Don took 2 test wickets with his leg spin, at 36 apiece; quite acceptable. But, none of those came when he was the captain.

I think Green is a great prospect, but comparison with Kallis seems a bit far fetched.

Here is the list of for the best bowling figures for skippers (all countries).
Interestingly, the Kapil effort came for a losing cause. The Paks selectors seem most flexible regarding picking captains: Fazal, Intikhab, Imran, Wasim, Waqar all led Paks in tests. Bit surprised to see Wasim so low in the list. Also, Abdul Qadir led them in ODI, but not in tests.
Among the WI quickies, Courtney Walsh had couple of spells as captain, although his reign ended with a humiliating whitewash in Pak.

Thanks. Richie was always going to be no 1. Bit of a dilemma over 2 and 3. At the end I felt that the Windies batting in 1989 was considerably stronger than the current Pak batting line up.

Great article. I fully agree with your views on T20 Leagues emerging like mushrooms. Soon enough, only a few will survive.
I grew up during the heydays of ODI cricket, and in about a decade time, people got bored with the overdose.
How Test cricket can shake off five stages of grief to not only survive but soldier on for another 150 years
I have checked and indeed it was Majid.

'Consequential, controversial and possibly most infamous of all time': Revisiting Australia-Pakistan rivalry from 1979
Asif Iqbal and Kim Hughes were fairly similar. Neither can be termed great batsman, btu both knew when to raise their game.
'Consequential, controversial and possibly most infamous of all time': Revisiting Australia-Pakistan rivalry from 1979
Very nice article to start with. The Paks were very competitive in Aus for roughly 2 decades starting in the 1970s. Although they lost 3 nil in 1972-73 the score wont tell the whole story.
It was during that series, one Pak batsman said to Lillee, if you can knock the cap off my head, you can keep it.
I am not 100% sure who it was, my guess it was Majid, but it can be Sadiq or Asif as well. anyone here can give me very definite answer?

2nd test Ban-NZ at Dhaka.
Ban unchanged. Nz Santner in for Sodhi.
Tigers win the toss and decide to bat first. Obviously , they are relying on their spinners again.
The match starts in less than half an hour. Interestingly, its very hazy here in Dhaka this morning. Ideal conditions for Swing bowling, Southee can be a handful in these conditions.

Thanks for the comment. It was basically a coin toss for me between Kohli-Rahul and Head-Marnus. I just got the feeling (may be I am wrong) watching India on the field, that they gave up too early. Their score was at least a 100 short of what they were expecting.

Interestingly there was the Australasia cup . it was held in Sharjah; Paks won all three events. India were Runners up in 1986 and 1994; the Aus in 1990.
I actaully thought there was good prospect for the event, but then Sharjah cricket suffered a blow with the match fixing allegations.

Cricket's Asia Cup: An undersold tournament in search of meaning
Interesting that there will be an article on Asia cup here.
Ever since the start of the event in 1984, it has seen boycott, postponement, change of venues etc to undermine its value.
I thought about writing about its history, but I dont think this is the right place.

Of course its fairly easy to form Singh, Patel or Sharma XI from subcontinent players. Also, Mendis or De Silva is possible based on SL players.
I was wondering whether it’s possible to from a Rana XI. I have seen few Ranas around in IPL. Also there was Shafqat Rana from Pak.
Surprisingly I can’t remember a Ban cricketer with surname Rana. Now Rana is a very popular surname in Ban (eg Jewel Rana, Sohel Rana, Masud Rana etc.) This is because there is a hugely popular fictional action hero Masud Rana in Bangla literature. His stories were and still are very popular.
