Tracey will miss out, but I’d rather JAC at fullback with Taaffe squeezed out.

Round 4 Team Lists Late Mail: Key Raiders injury leads to Origin star return, Newcastle lose Gagai to 'medical condition'

Normally the fans don’t play the underdog line this early.

That’s like allowing offsides if the player got there with time to spare: “Well, if he’d started a few steps back, he still would have scored.”

Moses-inspired Parra prove they're finals contenders but Manly seething as Bunker lacks 'common sense' with no-try call

First sentence good. Second sentence slanderous.

Perhaps Penrith put the cue in the rack once the result was beyond doubt.

Incidental contact doesn’t give you blurred vision.

I would argue with the reintroduction of the fines system, the NRL abandoned the premise of protecting players. How many acts in the last couple of years have lightened NAS’s wallet without costing him game time?

I don’t think TPJ’s high school had a careers advisor.

I, for one, welcome our fly-in fly-out overlords.

CA makes Perth call - where and when Australia's blockbuster Tests against India will be played

I trust him fielding kicks and organizing the defense. His positioning needs work, but that can be addressed. When Walker was playing fullback in Mitchell’s absence a few years back, I wondered if Walker would stay at the back and Mitchell would play in the 6 jersey. Too late to try that now, unfortunately, given Walker is slowing down.

Too much to Bear: Danger signs emerge as Rabbitohs start to unravel after years of near-misses

The only way such an event is ever going to happen is if a banned Russia wants a way to compete under their flag and stumps up the cash. It would be toxic (no pun intended) for sponsors, fans would recognize the lack of actual achievement, removing the narrative that would generate interest, and no active top-level athletes would want to associate themselves with the event. Magnussen is retired. If he gets an ‘enhanced’ world record, he’s not going to then get put on boxes of Weet-Bix.

Just imagine the interviews post-event:
“Congratulations John, a new world record!”
“First of all, I’d like to thank my GP, who defied his Hippocratic Oath to turn me into the grotesque caricature I am today, along with my coach who acquired the substances that are illegal in my home country… It’s been a long journey to get here, lots of events where I was competitive but podium positions just seemed beyond me. But now I feel so proud because I bridged the gap by ingesting performance-enhancing substances. It’s a true underdog story for the kids out there… I’m so excited; my heart is pumping at an irregular rate, just as it has since I entered my training camp.”
“You won a million dollar bonus. How will you spend it?”
“Chemo.”

Wasn’t Trashbag Deluxe a Demtel product spruiked by Tim Shaw?

Nisbet would also be prepared to play the game for a meat pie and a can of coke.

“Davo, you announced that you’re retiring after this game, which means that any suspensions would have zero impact on you. I hope you don’t use that knowledge to settle any old scores, or indeed any new scores. After all, conceding a 50 metre penalty that MIGHT result in us conceding a goal would be too great a penalty for putting our opponent’s best player… or players… on the sideline.”

Leigh Matthews is wrong - the AFL doesn't need a send-off rule, and introducing one would just make things messier

How would you feel if someone did a Barry Hall coward punch in a grand final and went on to be best on ground?

When you say inside centre and outside centre, do you mean in roaming roles, or have we traveled 30 years back in time?

Too much to Bear: Danger signs emerge as Rabbitohs start to unravel after years of near-misses

True, but that means Waugh has little to no say in the matter, so his platitudes have no weight.

'We need to accelerate': Waugh admits RA behind schedule on Rebels future as tickets sold to ailing club's Lions clash

It’s a blurry line where it’s in the public interest to see an ‘incident’. If a player in any sport throws a coward punch, I want the opportunity to see it. That’s not out of bloodlust; rather to understand what occurred to determine what sanctions are appropriate. But I made a conscious effort not to watch the last ever delivery that Phillip Hughes faced. Certainly, that footage is a vital tool for those filing reports, but the details should be enough for the general public.

They banned the practice (on-field) after that, but the footage lives on.

Regarding replays, YouTube highlights of matches tend to insult their viewers by often not showing card incidents, yet still having time to show gimme conversations, people from the crowd walking into the stadium, and the teams running off at half-time. I think that the only things that should be excluded from telecast are disturbing injuries, and even there they should look to show a single replay from the least graphic perspective that informs the viewer what has occurred. We don’t need to gawk at an unconscious player, but we deserve to know that there is an unconscious player and what resulted in them being unconscious.

Let’s see… they had better uniforms. That’s a positive, surely!

Hammer deserves Dally M votes this time around as Dolphins demolish Dragons in dramatic turnaround for both teams

100%. In terms of sponsorship, Adelaide has 2 big winter sporting teams, as opposed to Melbourne and Sydney having a dozen or more each. The Crows and the Power are not going to be usurped, but there’s surely some businesses who would want to put their branding on a different team.

I hate that kind of talk from coaches when talking about their own players, but since Ciraldo was talking about someone from the opposition, I think that his words were appropriate.
