Tim, as a Pies supporter, I agree. I hope he gets the Cripps result, but I thought that result was horrific. If serong and Sicily copped bans for what they did this year then our wonderful, beloved Bruzzy must also. Or the system is a joke. I hope the system is a joke…
Finals Fix: Manic Magpies expose Dees' massive flaw - but here's why they should have to win it all without Maynard
Pies are very beatable. Brions, Port, Dees and Cats all number up well against them. And I disagree, I think Blues win even if pies kickbstraight. They creamed my boys in the centre all night. It was a clear victory. BUT it is just one loss. And they are two clear on top of the ladder. Proclamations of their demise are premature at best.

It’s an extra hour in a plane each way…
I’m pretty sure most teams would gladly put up with that to go and play Freo who’ve won 5/10 at home, or West coast who’ve won 1/8 at home as opposed to less travel but playing Brisbane who are 10/10 at home.
There is no bruise free footy to be had at the Gabba but plenty at Optus Oval.

And the hardest road trip is to the gabba. Not sure what comp you’ve been watching this year…

From the text of the article I’d assumed you’d read, “an honest-to-God premiership dark horse.”
Enjoy your win.

A brand of finals footy… how would they know? It’s been a decade since they played in one.
Enjoy the win.

It’s a joke big fella!
Footy Fix: The Blues aren't the only winners out of Friday night - because the Pies' luck has run out at last
So let’s get this straight, the Pies losing just their 3rd match of the season – admittedly by a massive 17 points – demonstrates that their luck has run out and that their kryptonite has now been found?
Further, the Blues – who haven’t played in a final for so long I can’t remember when it was – are now a genuine flag chance?
I, myself, have been party to some sensational hyperbowl in my time, but I doff my cap to you and your unbridled joy in Collingwood losing Mr Miller.
How many of the Blues players have actually played in September?
Results of Pies/Blues matches have often been outside of expected form due to the regard the clubs and their supporters have for each other.
Add to that the Pies having played in one of the hardest games of the season last week, and the jury is certainly still out on the implications of this result.
All credit to Carlton. They played well and their form is on the up, but excuse me if I’m not rushing to put a $20 on them lifting the trophy in 2023.

You’ve told me lots of things, but never your identity.

I. too, am afflicted with the boofhead gene…
A personal experience. Last year we tried – late admittedly – to get my son registered to play with his local league club. We tried a variety of ways to contact them. We got no response at all.
This year, literally 5 days from the first game (yes we are that disorganised…) we contacted his local AFL Auskick side. He trained that night and played on the saturday. He absolutely loves it. On saturday night he was out on the Manuka Oval at half time playing in front of 15,000. He was elated.
Rugby league may have lost him…

Consider this, this saturday night I can take a family – 2 adults, 2 kids – to the Raiders at GIO Stadium, general admission, and it will cost me $95 plus agency fees.
To take that same family to watch Collingwood at the G this Sunday will cost me $54 plus agency fees.
Thats $25 a person vs $12.50 a person.
That must have a huge impact on attendence.

I’ve heard questions raised about how much separation there was between the two parties, however I’ve seen no substantiation of that issue at all. So you’ve got to go with dumb.

Money aint the problem. The revenue from their licensed clubs is very good and very secure. The cap stops them using it to its full extent though.

Randy, Racism is a problem all across this country. Both AFL and NRL have issues. As a Collingwood supporter of 50 years, my club has had lots of issues. In spite of last weeks’ happenings, I can tell you we are miles ahead of where we were that disgraceful day in 1993, but we still have a long way to go.
Unfortunately I’ve also seen lots of racism in the NRL too.
My wife pointed out – as I was decrying my fellow Magpie fans who moronically booed Buddy – that my ingrained disdain and derision of our arch enemy – Carlton – was also entrenched bigotry. And I was modelling that bigotry to my son.
I hated that she was right.
We can’t blindly hate or deride people because of their race, class, colour, creed, orientation, etc
Sometimes its just casual, not overt. or we’re just joking. but its just as bad.
We’ve all got to do better and be better.
A big part of that is allowing people to redeem themselves, to be better.
That’s a huge part of reconciliation.
In 1993 our ruckman – Damian Monkhorst – was one of the ringleaders of the abuse of Nicky Winmar and Gilbert McAdam at Victoria Park. From that incredible low Damian rose to become someone who set out to encourage tolerance and reconciliation.
Just last year I told one of my oldest and dearest friends that I couldn’t tolerate him engaging in any racist language, even when it was just the two of us. It was a hard conversation to have with someone I love like a brother.
However, he has thought about it and he has changed. He’s on his journey. Like we all are.
The key things I always say to the kids I coach when they make fun of or treat badly someone who is of a different background to them – rather than in regard to the content of their character – “Do you remember being in your mother’s belly and choosing to be a white kid, born in Australia, into middle class security? No you don’t. You had no choice in that. Neither did that person. To dislike them based on those things is about as stupid as it gets.”
It really works.
Sorry for the sermon.

A few years ago I suggested getting rid of the cap entirely. Of course that would mean some clubs would die on their feet, going broke while striving for success. And That would compromise the almighty broadcast deal. So the salary cap keeps the smaller clubs on life support, like some form of battery hen.

Cultural, probably.
The NRL could do something about that though.
Nice to see you too Jimmmy

This bit at least alludes to it : “However, seven times in the last two decades the highest rating broadcast for the year in Australia has been the AFL Grand Final. Only the above mentioned Origin game in 2019 and the 2014 NRL Grand Final has seen rugby league take out the yearly title.”

Damn, you rite wurds gud Tim. The only consideration you miss in your meticulous analysis is the effect of the Pies MCG crowd. It is unlikely to be easily lulled into silence as the port crowd was.
The Giants surprised the pies in 2019. There is no confusion about how good GWS are now. They are the real deal.
Finals Fix: They just pumped Port - and here's why the Giants might be Collingwood's worst nightmare too
