Yes. That’s why I said it doesn’t matter, HR.
I have never felt more conflicted about watching a World Cup
Great article, Mike. Very much how I feel how I feel.
Just to clarify, it was at least 6500 migrant workers who died between 2011 and late 2020 in Qatar, not exclusively building stadiums.

I don’t bring it up because it matters where these unfortunate people died, but because there are a small handful of people who will use any misstep to try to undermine the entire argument.

I see you haven’t changed, Macca.
I’m sorry for confusing you.
AFL Trade Period power rankings: The team that cleaned up... and the one that just got nuked, AGAIN
It’s fixable. Sydney and Brisbane had the same problem and the solution was salary cap concessions. That’s the solution for Gold Coast and GWS too.
AFL Trade Period power rankings: The team that cleaned up... and the one that just got nuked, AGAIN
The Lions have Geelong’s second rounder, which is why they were able to trade their own first and second round picks.
They also have three third round picks; their own, Melbourne’s, and Western’s. I assume they’ll try to trade some of those for points in this year’s draft, to try and protect Geelong’s second round pick.
But ultimately the worst thing that can happen is they lose that second round pick, and their first pick in 2023 is in the late 40s or early 50s.

I’m not sure Tim’s maths is right on the Lions, but in any case the issue is surely more that they’ve traded out their future first and second rounders for Dunkley. Dunkley is fine, but he was maybe the fourth best midfielder at the team that just finished eighth. He doesn’t exactly guarantee success.
If Brisbane slide down the ladder next season to eighth or ninth then that’s basically picks 10, 21 and 28 they’ve given up. Ouch.
If the bids come early on Ashcroft and Fletcher the Lions lose Geelong’s second rounder next season, and maybe a third rounder – big deal. The real risk is in their own performance.

To say football isn’t English is like saying bolognese isn’t Italian because tomatoes are native to South America.
I don’t particularly care for the English football team – and I’m getting a bit ticked off by a lot of their supporters – by they are right to be as proud as they are about their role in football’s history. It is well worth singing about.
Now they just need to learn another song.
It’s coming home, but please don’t take them there. Make up your bloody mind.
Well played, England, but it's not coming home
Denmark were unlucky with that penalty, but any result other than England going through would have been an injustice and a let-down.
We’ve got the best possible final. The final the tournament deserves. I can’t wait.

There are few strategies with a worse track record than appointing a coach who who spent almost all of his career at the same club.
It’s not just a correlation either. A greater diversity of experience means more opportunities to learn.
Hawthorn have had two of the greatest coaches of the last half-century in Allan Jeans and Alastair Clarkson. Neither played a single game in the brown and gold. They should learn from their successes.
Clarkson leaving, but no new coach until 2023
Paul Roos is another example.
But the difference between Roos, Beveridge and Mitchell is that the latter spent virtually all of his career at the one club, whereas the first two got most of their experience elsewhere.
Clarkson leaving, but no new coach until 2023
It’s a perfectly natural reference. Tomalaris was involved in football coverage for more than twenty years, and the Euros are going on right now.
It didn’t take long for some anti-football talk to creep in at SBS
That’s not quite what I’m saying. I’m saying they haven’t proven it yet, but it’s probably going to come at some point. This is a good side.
The classic examples you’re probably thinking of are GWS in 2019 and Port Adelaide in 2007. I think Brisbane are significantly better than those teams.
Incidentally, the Dogs’ record at the MCG isn’t too crash hot either.
Brisbane Lions are ready to take the next step
Well, they were coming off a 128 point win.
Brisbane Lions are ready to take the next step
The team looks much better balanced and more convincing than they did in either of the previous two seasons. In particular the younger players on the fringes of the 22 – like Robertson, Prior and Coleman – just seem to consistently perform. There isn’t an obvious weakness to target, nor a part of the ground where the opposition can expect to have an advantage.
The question – and it’s a big one – is their capacity to beat good teams outside of Queensland. They’ve had three opportunities this year and lost all of them. We can give them a pass against the Dogs in their third straight week locked out of Queensland, but they should have beaten an understrength Geelong in round 2 and they should have gone on with it from half time against Melbourne.
The impression I get is that matching it with the absolute best teams is just too much for them away from the comfortable Gabba.
But to be fair, winning consistently interstate is usually the last thing to evolve as a truly excellent team matures. It was at least a year after Richmond won their first flag that they could claim to have proven that. The Lions of 2001 won one game all year on the road against a top six team; the Grand Final.
I don’t think the Lions are about to decline, so the question is probably when and not if they get over that hurdle. Honestly, it probably should have been a month ago at Giants Stadium. Maybe it’ll be in the next few weeks as they stay out of Queensland.
Brisbane Lions are ready to take the next step
Grow up.
Angry Bombers fans voice their frustration at the umpires after loss to Melbourne
It’s becoming pretty rare for former head coaches to be appointed to new clubs. I think Brett Ratten might be the only current coach to have previously coached a different AFL team.
The Pies are probably better off following the most-travelled path to success, which seems to be to find the best assistant coach out there, who best fits with the culture you want to build, and make sure they have the support they need. It doesn’t hurt if they can bring in new ideas from a new environment.
One guy who sticks out for me is Adem Yze. He had some good years as an assistant at Hawthorn and seems to have worked wonders as Melbourne’s midfield coach.
More Collingwood carnage, no easy answers after Buckley's departure
Big game tomorrow between Melbourne and Brisbane. Neutral venue makes it interesting with both sides not quite proven outside their own state. Normally you’d back the home team.
I think the Lions are going just a little better than the Demons, so I’ll tip them without a great deal of confidence.

‘Rarefied gravy train’ is a good description of the weird little world of professional footy opinion.
Lyon vs Robinson: This round goes to Robbo
There’s definitely an interesting debate about whether players with certain health conditions should be cut more slack on certain matters.
I think the problem here is the debate is being held between two people that are very keen to express their opinions, and considerably less keen to research their opinions.

Good call on Cumming. He’s emerged from nowhere for the Giants this year.
Your club's underrated performer: Round 11
It’s great to want change, but surely there are more effective ways to get it. I would expect Bigfooty or any Collingwood fans forum would be a much targeted way to put out this content.
Political uncertainty and a lack of vision at Collingwood
Not publishing them is not the same as banning them. There are plenty of forums for the writer to express his opinions. Of course I’m not going to bleeding well read them, but I don’t need to read spam emails either to know when I’m getting too many of them.
I find it hard to imagine there’s much new or original content after 96 freaking articles by the same guy on a subject that’s only relevant to supporters of one club.
I don’t particularly care about whether his cause is just or not. It’s just slightly more clutter on a site I visit pretty regularly.
Presumably there’s some sort of tipping point, where to much of the site is given over to one cause. I think we’re approaching that point.

I don’t think it was Valencia who was adjudged to be offside. I think it was Estrada.
